The clear lesson of Operation Prosperity Guardian is: our allies DO NOT trust 🇺🇸 This RED SEA story is a lot bigger than anyone realizes. Even if it’s solved tomorrow deep and serious questions remain about allied participation, supply chains and manipulation by malicious actors

@johnkonrad Can we advertise any more loudly that we are ill equipped to protect Taiwan? Much less Houthi or Iranian aggression? How on earth will any allies dare count on us!

@johnkonrad Why are you so convinced that “lack of trust by US allies” has been the determining factor or conclusion in the lack of participation? Has any ally directly said they don’t trust the direction of the operation?

@GarfieldsLasgna Because the motto of my US Merchant Marine is acta non-verbal. Action not words. I don’t care how that rationalize this to the talking heads, they have already voted with their feet.

@johnkonrad Your congress dilly-dallying on Ukraine doesn't help matters, rest of us are wondering what US security assurances are worth.

@johnkonrad With respect to Op Prosperity Guardian specifically, it feels like the US is willfully not reading the room. Either in its support of Israel despite how they pursued their campaign against Hamas/Palestinians or over a future where peace is a potential outcome.

@johnkonrad Haven’t been paying attention to Ukraine much eh? Lol, I kid. But seriously, we’ve been fucking up the ally thing since around 1991. With respect to the Red Sea story, look to every administration since… ever.

@johnkonrad Why should they trust us? Look at china’s merchant navy and then look at ours? One is at least supported by the government, the other is kept alive by a 1920’s jingoistic (which is not a bad thing) law.

@johnkonrad From Djibouti, where Bab Al Mandab is situated, the lack of trust in the US is also quite palpable. And this emanates directly from the hit in credibility and moral leadership the US has taken from its support to the Genocide in Gaza

@johnkonrad Why doesn't the Israeli navy escort these ships in the Red Sea as they have 7 corvettes or are they all busy blockading Gaza?

@johnkonrad 1/x There's distrust because the chain of command has been deeply compromised, and not just in United States, either. This has happened in many allied nations and is the result of subversion, which is a long term strategy conducted by many hostile parties, state and non-state.

@johnkonrad Agreed. After the way Biden cut and run from Afghanistan without discussing it with allies, not many think Biden is worth helping/trust worthy.

@johnkonrad Why would the allies trust such a hypocritical bully? US has only ever been out for itself. History has shown us that.
