Anyone else feeling overwhelmed by the relentless drive to corral us into a cashless, card only, contant cookies, upgrade prompts and unsolicited contacts from people we don't actually know ?
You don't see too many of these century-old post boxes still in action today. The SÉ logo at the bottom stands for Saorstát Eireann, The Irish Free State. Location best left undisclosed, I reckon.
Mindful that pride comes before a fall, it's with much gratitude that I say welcome to the show's 4,000 new listeners and many thanks to all my regulars. Still plenty of room down the back, so please spread the word. Míle buíochas. You can listen here. 👇

When I was a boy, my English teacher, Humphrey Twomey, taught us the value of critique. Read something. Don't rush to judgement but consider it from every angle. Each boy in the class was then allowed his own opinion. Whenever I encounter instant outrage here, I miss Mr. Twomey.

Thank you Sharon. It has been a sureal experience. The avalanche of love for Sinead that rolled into the show from around the world was truly staggering. People can listen back to the programme here -

If you didn't get to listen live then I recommend listening back to this evening's

show. The breadth of Sinead O Connor's work. Thanks John for such a wonderful show.
It's a sad but real honour to be asked by John Prine's family to premiere the final song John ever wrote.
It's called 'I Remember Everything' and we will finish tonight's show by playing it. RTE Radio1 8-10pm.

So sorry to hear of the passing of the remarkable Deirdre Purcell. A brilliant author, actor and journalist, Deirdre was also very kind. She encouraged me on many occasions when I was 'the new boy' around the radio centre

That's it so. The full Irish now(with Gold Medal sausages, of course) then back to bed with the clock set for the hurling later. We'll have the dinner on Monday.

Still shocked and deeply honoured. My inner child thinks it's Christmas morning. Thank you all so much. Míle buíochas.
Thinking about this old friend a lot over recent days.
How he would have savoured the Olympic Games, particularly the boxing and the

Still missed around the place, Jimmy Magee.
Pride before a fall and all that, but genuinely grateful that 4,000 new listeners have joined the small, but perfectly formed Creedon Show audience. Still plenty of room down the back, but welcome to our new arrivals and a big thank you to all regular listeners.
RTE Radio1 8pm.
There has been much speculation all afternoon, but we can finally confirm the sad news. Texan country music singer Nanci Griffith has passed away, aged 68. R.I.P.

We all knew Shay wasn't going to go on forever, but feeling so lonely for him today. Miss the gags, theories, enthusiasm & phonecalls. Apart from his huge talent, he was a lovely, kind man. Promised I'd play this for him when he was gone. R.I.P.

I love the Irish language term for a ladybird. It's 'Bóín Dé' (literally, God's Little Cow). Found this little 'Seven Spot' munching it's way through a public park. This variety eats tiny pests and is often considered the gardener's friend.
Welcome to our 2,000 new listeners and a big thank you to all our 'old reliables'. I'd be lost without you.
Keep spreading the word. 8-10pm

'Farewell to Beara'
The view from the van on my last night in West Cork. Was eight months waiting for this break. This morning I'm feeling rejuvenated and hugely grateful to be living in dear old Ireland. Back on Radio1 tonight at 8pm.
Have a safe week.
Two thousand welcomes to our new listeners and a huge thank you to all my regulars. If it wasn't for you, I'd be on the town every night and we couldn't have that! Honoured that the audience keeps growing, but there's still room for a few more in the balcony.🙏
RTERadio1 8-10pm.
Like many, I'm looking forward to a few beers in a real pub...eventually. But am I the only one hoping that when the Covid tide recedes it brings trends like drunken eegitry on St. Patrick's Day and '12 Pubs of Christmas' away with it ?

This is Liam (on the right). His mates reckon he looks so like me that they actually call him 'John Creedon'. They spotted me in Scotland yesterday and just had to do a 'double-take' selfie. Dunno.. if I thought I looked as good as Liam, I'd be in movies.
A beautiful memory! I feel like reaching for my fountain pen.

The final line from former hostage Brian Keenan's 'An Evil Cradling' has stayed with me through the years. The emotions around his eventual release prompted him to observe 'Freedom comes slowly at first.'
Seems true of incarceration, addiction, toxic relationships or a pandemic.
Over €800 a week for a week's rentacar in Santorini ? I was there last month. No car. €1.80 for the local bus. Better view from a bus. Its a small island.. sure where'd you be going on a car.

Gordon Lightfoot has died aged 84. The Canadian songwriter's remarkable legacy of songs includes Sundown, Rainy Day People, Early Morning Rain, Daylight Katy, If You Could Read My Mind, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald & more. We'll remember him tonight on RTE Radio1 from 8pm.
Would love to see any TWO of them in the ring with Katie Taylor. C'mon boys.. Two of you.. against one girl. Surely you'd be up for that ? No ? Slapless prats.
Feels like being asked to run an extra mile, just as the finishing line comes into sight. Very tough few weeks ahead for many. Vigilance is the price of freedom and the darkest hour is the one just before dawn.

Sad to hear of passing of piper Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains. He was a key player in Ireland's soundtrack for over 60 years. He played with the best of them: O'Riada, Zappa, Jagger, Stevie Wonder. Condolences to Paddy's family & friends.

Happy days with Irish Motor-racing pioneer, Rosemary Smith, who passed away today aged 86. Here she is aged 80 at Mondello Park, when we staged a two car race. She came 1st, but I came a very creditable 2nd.
