Replay in CFB is broken & Targeting foul is equally broken!
- Clearly a TD in first half
- 100% targeting (and I hate targeting) at end
Officiating in CFB needs an overhaul...No reason for every conference to have their own officials...Should have a national officiating base
The reality for Georgia this season is the following
1) 11 wins is fantastic
2) you lost to the 3 best teams you faced
3) tougher on twitter than you were in the Sugar Bowl
My heart breaks for those young men that have dedicated their lives to this amazing sport and have now been told that they cannot compete in what would have been their last game...You deserve better...This madness has to stop
We have to include two types of targeting
1) Foul without intent...player not ejected
2) Obvious targeting of opponents head or neck...player ejected
Ejecting players for playing hard is stupid
The Packers can't be surprised...They flirt with every girl at the party...gave one of them their number (Jordan Love)...And now wifey is pissed
Shocking!!!!!
QB dipped and the defender wrapped up...this is a TERRIBLE call...Officials making themselves the story...SEC has brutal officiating in general...showing itself here
Final thoughts on Officials...Replay official was awful
1) Needed to CONFIRM all elements of targeting...if there is any question he is supposed to leave player in game
2) Call on field was catch and fumble...video was not indisputable and yet still overturned
overreach on both
Makes ZERO sense to make campus decisions right now...Keep options open...The goal is to WAIT in order to make decisions based on the most COMPLETE and ACCURATE information possible
Some CFB thoughts:
- The 2020 season is 100% happening
- Fans will be in the stands to some capacity at most locations
- The season will likely start on time
So 4-5 Ole Miss just beat the Big Ten’s second beat team & 4-6 Kentucky just beat a top 25 team in the ACC. There are only three guarantees in life: Death, taxes, and the SEC dominating college football.
If you watch any of the games that I call you know that I feel CFB replay is broken and the lack of consistency is troubling at best
Just spoke with
@OhioStateFB
Athletics Director Gene Smith and he is livid with what he feels like was clear overreach from replay tonight
So,
@NCAA
is big mad at
@UMichFootball
because they contacted recruits during "COVID" dead period and had an analyst coach too much...
Meanwhile,
@GatorsFB
promises a recruit $13M and can't pay it, but the
@NCAA
has nothing to say about that...
WHY is the NCAA still a thing??
How dare
@OhioStateFB
give up 35 points to a top 10 team with a dynamic passer and one of the best receivers in the nation...pretty clear to me that
@ClemsonFB
is better after their last two games...Solid 6 point win over BC and a Loss
Keep in mind that replay is only supposed to get involved if they can CONFIRM every aspect of Targeting
With two questionable (at best) aspects
1) level changes late
2) defender wraps up with no launch
This was an awful and game changing call call (replay)
I believe that these players deserve to see the medical evidence that drove this decision...how and why is it different from what other conferences are hearing?
Cincy and Florida each drop one spot...one didn't even play a game...the other lost at home to a 3 win team with 54 scholarship players and a TFr QB making his first start
Cool!
Come on...
@finebaum
this an absurd take...this might be your position, but to suggest that the "country" feels this way is not right
Also, to suggest that OU will look "a lot" better is not accurate either...If you haven't watched Utah just say it and move on
Words cannot begin to express my anger watching this clip...this is not football & whoever put this idiotic drill together & allowed an obvious mismatch should never be allowed near a football field or youth sports forever! This is child abuse disguised as competition
I guess we can all see why
@AlabamaFTBL
led the country in margin of victory at 30.3 PPG (only played SEC teams)
The SEC was exactly like the ACC has been for the last few years...A one team league
I know Ed Orgeron was tremendous this season, however, if I had to voice one issue with tonights awards it would be on behalf of Matt Rhule...Coach O made a great hire in off-season & welcomed a Grad Transfer year before... Coach Rhule brought a program back from the DEAD
#Facts
The team first mentality and unselfishness of
@UMichFootball
is real!...Called 16 of their games since the start of 2021...They genuinely love each other and that is a rare thing...Congratulations to 144
The fact that
@KU_Football
isn't ranked just shows you how truly horrible the AP Poll is...If you have a vote in the AP Poll and didn't rank the Jayhawks you have failed!! It's pathetic!
So,
@TCUFootball
has two wins that are better than any win Clemson has...
@ClemsonFB
is not a bad football team, but TCU got snubbed by brand bias...If Texas or OU had the exact same resume as TCU they would by no lower than 4
17 million people watched a football game that I had the privilege to talk about while I was standing next to a guy I idolized a decade ago...Life is crazy man
I love watching the NFL as much as anyone, but yesterday in CFB was about 1,000X better than anything that happened today...not...even...close!!!
#CFBforLife
Players would be safer within the testing structure, protocols, medical care and accountability of a season than outside
unintended consequences of these decisions are wide ranging & severe...from deteriorating mental health and increased substance abuse to loss of opportunity
The
@CFBPlayoff
Ranking Committee is a failed experiment...every indefensible ranking builds distrust in this system...distrust leads to distain which inevitably ends with disinterest...Not good for the sport we all love!
The idea that a room full of administrators (for the most part) are the best we can do to rank CFB teams properly is laughable...These rankings are just silly
Power 5 programs are paying a combined $69.01 Million in buyouts this year alone...you could give every Power 5 football player around $10,000 with that money...Institutions of higher education are paying $69,010,000 to seven individuals for them to not work
#crazy
Gus, Jenny, and I called 10
@OhioStateFB
games over the past two seasons...I never once heard anyone mention
@justnfields
as a marginal worker...In fact, I heard the exact opposite...He fought to get on the field and he fought to stay on the field...DRAFT HIM!
All due respect to this HEAD COACH...I never want to live in a world where we reward the potential of the players individually rather than the accomplishments of the TEAM as a whole...W's and L's still have to matter more than Jimmy's and Joe's
Text from an FBS head coach: "When will the (CFP) committee actually watch personnel? Notre Dame doesn't have players anywere close to the three other teams or Georgia. Like watching a NFL team play a college team."
Congratulations to the
@HeismanTrophy
finalists!! You all had great seasons...That being said I am shocked Stetson is a finalist over Hendon Hooker, Michael Penix, Bo Nix, DTR, Drake Maye or even Blake Corum for that matter...All of whom had better seasons than Bennett
Football is a physical sport and there is a risk of injury!
Making rules to avoid lawsuits while trying to appease soccer Moms in order to increase the number of kids playing football is ruining the sport.
I feel terrible for the Akron athletes that are losing their sport and scholarship today as a result of our response to this virus.
Keep in mind these athletes are over 150X more likely to be murdered or commit suicide than die from Covid-19 according to
@CDCgov
data
Wrong, we told you that slandering his name using a third party, uncorroborated, mention of him from a civil suit deposition in order to submarine his hiring because you didn't think he was a good enough coach was not right...Low, even for you
Really stunned Ohio State didn't name Greg Schiano as their new coach. College football media all told me Greg Schiano was the greatest available coach in college football history. Guess Ohio State disagreed.
Maybe if you wouldn't have been out-gained in 3 straight games...Or if Temple wouldn't have put up a school record 670 yards...or if you weren't T-5th Worst in FBS in penalties/game...or if more than 1 of your opponents had a winning record vs FBS opponents
Keep On Truckin!!
More on Chase Young situation:
- Loan was not from Agent
- It was paid back before situation became public
- He was truthful from start
- With precedent I would expect somewhere between 1-2 game suspension...fact that it was not agent and loan was paid back will be key
Biggest problem I have with the crowd that blames performances like this on lack of motivation or purpose is that BOTH teams have the option to mail it in, or they can prepare with a sense of pride to take the field and play hard for their teammates
One team decided to play hard
Tennessee is now having to focus on coaches with "Tennessee ties" because no one else will touch that job with a ten foot pole...You were led by emotional hypocrites with a severe lack of football knowledge that incited an internet mob...you made your bed, now go to sleep!
I'm a fan of each of these WR...They have had great seasons...However, the fact that none of the
@OhioStateFB
WR's are on this list is an indictment on the award itself and reflects poorly on those that vote for it
Today I gathered my 3 boys Henry 7, Sam 5, and Theo 2 to watch Tiger Woods win
#TheMasters
...We high fived, cheered, and hugged all morning...and then their Dad cried...For as long as I live I will remember and cherish this morning
Congratulations
@TigerWoods
& THANK YOU
June 6, 1944...In awe of the Bravery, Selflessness, Fortitude and Sacrifice on display during what can only be described as the most consequential day of the modern world
Thoughts on
@CFBPlayoff
Rankings
- Ohio State should've scheduled an FCS opponent over OU
- Ohio State, Alabama, and USC had major flaws and there wasn't a "good" option
- The CFP Committee is dishonest, inaccurate, and unreliable which puts long term health of Playoff at risk
For the record I am in favor of any measure that would dilute or strip power from this ridiculous 13 person committee...The structure of
@CFBPlayoff
has done more harm to our great sport than good...My hope is that expansion will fix some of the issues...I won't hold my breath
I will never forget todays JUMP AROUND...I had straight chills for 5 min...even if I wanted to say something I wouldn't have been able to speak
Huge props to our producer Chuck McDonald, director Rich Dewey and the entire crew for their incredible idea and coverage!!
Remember when I picked them to win Natty last 4 years? Remember when I called them greatest dynasty in CFB history? Remember when I called Saban the GOAT? But, since I think a 2 loss team that played 5 one poss. games shouldn't go to CFP, I "hate" them
Take a lap 🤡
You can think whatever you want about Jim Harbaugh...Some love him and others hate him...However, I love the fact he ALWAYS makes it about the players especially when he brings up revenue sharing...Also, he isn't wrong
The problem with Targeting? It is officiated wildly inconsistent & yet carries the most punitive consequences!
must be addressed!!
We need to only eject in egregious and malicious occurrences.
Targeting 1 (15 yards)
Targeting 2 (15 yards & ejection)
Being offended by Horns Down is soft...Why are people so eager to be offended these days...Don't pay attention to what others say about you!! The only thing you have total control over is your own effort level...that's it!
USC took a big swing to go get a coach many thought they couldn't get...That coach took a big swing at the XFR portal and changed an entire program in ONE off-season!
👀👀
The righteous indignation from Sooner fans is real.
However, Im old enough to remember when they praised the "shady, backroom deal" to move to the SEC and leave the Big 12 "gutted"
Quick PSA:
Try to limit your exposure to news and social media!
The consumption of which has exploded during the last week. Make no mistake fear and panic is GREAT for their bottom line.
Spend time with loved ones and read a book.
Have a blessed Sunday!
Lots of sources and articles about how "mad" opposing coaches are about Michigan...The level of anger has a direct relationship with the success Michigan has had over the last two+ seasons...Also, the level of anger is not grounds for an unprecedented overreach from the commish
As I reflect on an amazing weekend of CFB I can't help but think that for the first time in a long time it felt like we finally stopped yelling AT each other and started yelling FOR each other!
From Enter Sandman to Jump Around to Roll Tide
Thank You College Football!!
Texas A&M has lost 6 in a row with one of the most talented rosters in CFB...They have 3 wins and 2 of those came in games they were outgained by very avg. teams but won anyways...However, Jimbo only has 9 years left on that deal so you'll be ok
For the record:
@AlabamaFTBL
has no case to be included in the CFP...The committee has already told us, correctly, that
@OhioStateFB
is higher and there is no way Bama wins an argument over a 12 win
@TCUFootball
who also beat Texas in Austin.
Best locations for CFP National Championship Game
1) Rose Bowl
2) Atlanta
3) Dallas
4) New Orleans
5) Indianapolis (most underrated big event venue and city in the country)
6) Houston
7) Phoenix
There is no way that this guy can succeed in the NFL playing a position as important as QB...He has the audacity to wear his hat backward...
