The Jewish Council of Australia provides an independent, expert Jewish voice opposing antisemitism & racism and supporting Palestinian freedom & justice
The indomitable Miriam Margolyes OBE has a message in support of the Jewish Council! She calls for all of us Jews to “shout, beg, scream for a ceasefire”
The Jewish Council of Australia is calling on state and federal governments to immediately cut all military ties and place sanctions on Israel amid the escalating violence in Gaza.

The Jewish Council of Australia is horrified by what we are witnessing Israel do in Rafah in the name of Jewish people.
"The world cannot stand by while Israel continues to subject Palestinians to such cruelty."

today calling for Australia to do everything in its power to stop Israel committing genocide.
“We say this as part of a growing number of Jews saying that Israel’s actions are completely incompatible with our Jewish values”
The Jewish Council of Australia strongly supports the
@unionsaustralia
statement calling for an end to military ties with Israel, targeted sanctions, a permanent ceasfire and increased humanitarian aid.
The Jewish Council of Australia rejects the position that writers and artists who support freedom and justice for Palestinians make Jewish people unsafe. These claims rely on a false and deceitful conflation between Jewishness and the State of Israel.
The Jewish Council of Australia is concerned that the pro-Israel rally in Sydney this past weekend not only exploited Jewish fear about antisemitism for a pro-Israel agenda, it platformed speakers with long histories of bigotry & racism against Muslims, Arabs and LGBTIQA+ people
The Jewish Council of Australia is concerned for the safety of the Palestinian people who have had their identities exposed to Sky News and urges the Australian government to investigate how this private information was obtained.
The Jewish Council of Australia condemns attempts to target and silence Dr Randa Abel-Fattah, who is an important academic and literary voice in Australia.

Jewish communal leaders try to enforce a pro-Israel orthodoxy by going after Jews like us who support Palestinian human rights.
In the few weeks since our launch, these prominent Jewish leaders have come out swinging:

The Jewish Council of Australia expresses deep concern over Senator Sarah Henderson's scheduled participation in a zoom event with the Australian Jewish Association (AJA), an organisation with reported ties to far-right extremist elements.

We extend our deepest condolences to the victims and their loved ones in the wake of the knife attack at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre.
We unequivocally condemn attempts to stoke fear and hatred against migrants, Jews and Muslims in the aftermath of this horrific…
We founded the Jewish Council because most of our Jewish representative organisations in Australia fail to represent Jews who are critical of Israel and support a ceasefire and freedom for Palestinians.

Our EO Dr Max Kaiser in the Guardian, “The Israel lobby continues to conflate Jews and Israel, including by engaging in lobbying for Israel on behalf of the whole Jewish community. These groups do not represent the opinions of all Jews”
Despite so many Jews in Australia calling out Israel's atrocities, our right-wing sclerotic representatives promote and enforce absolute unity behind Israel.
More than ever, we need to reject them and speak out against injustice. Read our article:
We join a long history of progressive Jewish organisations who have spoken out in support of social justice and opposed to all forms of racism

There is an insidious form of antisemitism where individual Jews appoint themselves arbiters of a diverse 3000 year old set of cultures and traditions, disputing the Jewishness of other Jews, particularly those who dare to criticise Israel's conduct. 5/5
Our EO to the Guardian “Minister Wong’s admission that she did not have all the evidence regarding the allegations against UNRWA before deciding to pull funding indicates that decisions on life and death matters for Gazans are not being made rationally”
As The Zone of Interest director, Jonathan Glazer, said in his acceptance speech last night, this film shows “where dehumanisation leads at its worst”. We must heed this call and stand strongly against dehumanisation of any group.
We at the Jewish Council have spent the last two days marking Pesach with our friends and families. While there are many different opinions around our Seder tables, at this time we are all reminded of the Jewish traditions that hold that none of us are free until we are all free.
The Council is alarmed that some Jewish organisations have been lobbying for the Australian government to refuse entry to people seeking safety from Gaza and have mobilized anti-Palestinian racism and sentiment to do so.
Today, a group of Jewish scholars, historians, human rights lawyers and writers have come together to launch the Jewish Council of Australia. We are a coalition of experts aimed at combating antisemitism and racism in Australia
Dr Abdel-Fattah is one of many pro-Palestinian voices being targeted in this moment, and we should all be concerned about the consequences for free expression
"While it's important Israelis are recognising that Israel’s actions don’t keep them safe, it's disappointing the protests aren't equally focused on the Palestinian lives being taken" & now facing forced famine

The Jewish Council rejects the assertion that Australia accepting Palestinians fleeing unprecedented violence is in any way a threat to the safety of Jewish people.

: Senator Wong’s speech is ‘a good step but actions speak louder than words’. Australia must do everything it can to prevent genocide. ‘Any solution must ensure equality, freedom, justice, human rights for Palestinians & Israelis’
Recent reports allege that a group of people engaged in hate speech and performed the Nazi salute during a screening of a film about the Holocaust - The Zone of Interest - at a cinema in Melbourne.
This event cannot be taken in isolation.
When we condemned a disgusting group for making a Nazi salute at a Holocaust film, a senior reporter from the Australian Jewish News, Bruce Hill, posted a derogatory meme suggesting we were "Jews for Hire" and claiming "Holocaust-victim relatives". 4/5
Antisemitism must be challenged as part of a broader fight against racism, and in coalition with, rather than opposition to, others experiencing racism.
Max Kaiser said the false claims naming Cohen were spread to drive antisemitism. “We unequivocally condemn any attempts to stoke fear, hatred, or discrimination against migrants, Muslims or Jews in the aftermath of this horrific event.”
Dr Max Kaiser - politicians "use the Jewish community as an excuse for inaction" against Israel's destruction of Palestinian life in Gaza

The Jewish Council applauds Glazer’s call for an end to Israel’s hijacking of Holocaust memory as justification for ongoing occupation and violence against Palestinians.
“Neo-nazis breed in a soup of racism encouraged by Australian politicians who regularly attempt to whip up anti-migrant, anti-Palestinian and Islamophobic sentiment.”
Sarah Schwartz, Executive Officer, Jewish Council:
“If these reports are confirmed, this is a clear incident of antisemitism and racism. The Nazi salute is offensive and violent towards Jews, as it is to other racialised groups.”
“This incident reinforces the importance for Jewish people to work in partnership with other groups experiencing racism, to truly combat all forms of white supremacy.”
The National Socialist Network aims to get media attention through offensive stunts such as the March 2023 transphobic rally at Victorian Parliament, the October 2023 rally at Flinders Street Station and December 2023 march through the streets of Ballarat.
The Jewish Council is deeply concerned about antisemitic hate by neo-Nazis, and is concerned about all incidents of antisemitism, racism, and racially driven hatred.
Dr Max Kaiser, Executive Officer, Jewish Council: “The perpetrators of this disgraceful incident have showcased nothing but their own moral bankruptcy. These people are nothing more than contemptible, pathetic individuals seeking attention through offensive behaviour.”
