i know the laundry & taxes line from EEAAO has been making rounds but the line that keeps playing in my head is "when i choose to see the good side of things i'm not being naive, it is strategic and necessary... i know you see yourself as a fighter. well, i see myself as one too"
if you’ve stopped masking, testing and taking COVID-19 protocols, i’d definitely say now is as good a time as any to start again to protect yourself and others!! ESPECIALLY bc wastewater is showing a pretty big surge nationwide!!
the “filipino american” experience began bc of the political conditions in the ph & in america… idt you can say “this month is about filipino contributions to america” without acknowledging the way u.s. imperialism, colonialism, etc have impacted ph settler / immigration habits
stop saying journalism gives a "voice to the voiceless" bc it obscures the fact that the "voiceless" HAVE voices, they just aren't institutionally recognized!! you are AMPLIFYING the voices of people who have been doing work/who have lived experiences!
hi timeline - if there are any journalists who have depression & have also found ways to stay in the field, i'd really appreciate hearing those stories because my brain is telling me that it's impossible rn :/ tysm
imo: journos should be coming out strongly against white supremacy right now and if that is being deemed "too political" for a news org, that's absolutely bullshit bc of the ways in which media has perpetrated and protected white supremacy in america. media is political.
ALSO the notion of kindness as intentional... is so huge 2 me bc i do think in the same way bell hooks says love is intention & love is action, so too is kindness
thinking about how unforgiving standards for journalists on social media can feel and how i’m still a 22-year-old who has no idea what they’re doing most of the time and how it feels taboo sometimes to show any sliver of that on any social media platform…
share masked selfies because representation matters… i will be among the journalists who Stay masked up both on & off the clock and we need more to do the same 😷☝️
i think it's because i've always been called naïve (probably bad form to say that given my current employment SKFDSF) & had that looked @ as a bad thing... but i think for me naivete has also been another form of faith and it's something i hope i never stop holding close
some personal news 💌
i'm joining
@CapRadioNews
as their northern california reporter at the end of this month! i feel incredibly lucky to stick around sac/the central valley, the region where i grew up & an area i love w/my whole heart.
(central valley sunsets? unparalleled!)
if celebrities are talking about masking/COVID... you know it's Not Good. pandemic wasn't done before this case increase and it still isn't, mask up and test before seeing each other — community care and community engagement shouldn't mean spreading a disabling/deadly pathogen
filipino / non-filipino folks: imagine if posting memes online & exercising your right to assembly/free speech was deemed a crime. the “anti-terror bill” duterte just signed in the philippines does that. read more below & pls spread awareness!!

part of why i think the "racial reckoning" in journalism "failed" (if it ever began?) because it was rooted in some misguided faith in multiculturalism, & not a restructuring of power relations/reexamination of how those function both internally/externally in newsrooms
i understand the sentiment behind calling for a pulitzer for student journos at WKCR but how do these awards maintain their merit when coming from an organization whose parent university is actively suppressing reporters right now
this!! as a journalist you’re not doing your job if your language minimizes the continued risks COVID still poses — potential disability, blood clots and/or brain damage due to infection/reinfection, namely
respect pronouns yes but also understand that they/them or any neopronouns are NOT a third/fourth/fifth gender, etc — differing pronouns reflect the existence of a gender spectrum where gender is highly personal n unique to an individual

some thoughts on cover letters:
it's unwarranted to get mad at ppl for not writing them the "right" way bc it takes a certain amt of cultural capital to figure out a) how to write them & b) how to understand what kind of guidance to look for when writing them
sometimes i look at everyone who decided to pursue journalism before college/at the start of college and it hurts bc i feel so impossibly "behind" / i won't be taken seriously bc i went to a school w/out a journalism major & am not majoring in anything english/writing-related
hi! would anyone be interested in / want to commission me for a reported + personal essay piece about the connections between fanfiction & journalism? i would love to write ab the ways that writing fanfiction has shaped my approach to journalism (& hear ab it from others!)
when i write about why we need to stop using “anti-asian” as a label (for one: the lack of specificity… what is the “asianness” people are against) … it’s all over
there's a complicated relationship between asian americans & affirmative action, and there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer to how people feel about it + how it could affect california's public colleges.

part of me misses being a student bc i feel like it’s the last time u experience camraderie without having to work doggedly for it like a second job — not to say that forming relationships and community while being a student is easy, but the conditions r there
ok so the Personal News i mentioned… i’ll be one of the

virgo venus! if i'm dating someone actively i def want to talk w/them throughout the day, whether that's sending them memes or having a full-on convo (depending on capacity). i also really appreciate when a partner says good morning/good night + gives a heads-up ab their energy
wild how 3 years after the onset of the pandemic we’ve suddenly gone back to normalizing people coughing unmasked in public like. at least wear a mask ???? anything ??? or cover ur mouth…
but also… why is it the expectation that journalists detach themselves from personality in order to build credibility n trust n relationships? when the job is about talking to people n meeting them where they are? + the difficulty of detachment if you’re neurodivergent
this this this! if it’s helpful for anyone:

hi besties another thing 2 consider....in calls for accountability, maybe also acknowledge that female-presenting nonbinary folks have also been hyper/sexualized. it's not solely an "asian women" thing n nonbinary =/= woman lite
