Stunt co-ordinator Peter Diamond, Darth Vader stuntman Bob Anderson and

rehearsing The Empire Strikes Back lightsaber fight at
@ElstreeStudios
. "They are going to make me look really good" says Hamill.
Four years ago the
@F1
graphics producer ran round to me frantically asking "Vader... Sith Lord or Lord of the Sith?".
"Either will do." I replied.
Moments later this went out on air.
Here's a wonderful clip of
@TheWookieeRoars
as Chewie, feeding Harrison Ford with English lines on set at Elstree in 1979 for The Empire Strikes Back. Peter loved this clip.
Harrison Ford, 1979 - "Poor dear. It's pretty shocking...He (Luke) is of course fond of the Princess himself".
@HamillHimself
- "Give me three weeks in hyperspace!".
Today is Return of the Jedi's 40th anniversary.
The first time we saw Jabba.
Han was rescued.
Luke's lineage and family was confirmed.
We met the Ewoks.
It had the most epic space battle we'd ever seen
And Anakin was redeemed.
Who still loves it and why?
Here's Return of the Jedi director Richard Marquand reading Vader's lines in a rather long take. Will
@HamillHimself
nail his lines? Watch until the end.
The mysterious "Lightman" was filmed forty years ago today for Return of the Jedi and pretty much immediately abandoned.
@PhilTippett
What do you remember about it?
Went to see the Rolling Stones last night. Here's my 70 year old mother in law reminding us that you're never too old to let go and just have fun.

Isn't it crazy to think that while The Empire Strikes Back was being shot at Elstree Studios, Kubrick was on the lot editing The Shining and Ridley Scott was there finishing up on Alien?
@ManMadeMoon
I remember the first time I saw American TV. Drugs, cars, food. Drugs that stop your food allergy symptoms. Processed shite that replaces real food. Drugs that help dampen the other drugs symptoms. "Now over to Stu for Sports". 😱
A rarely seen extended version of the Death Star conference room scene, from Star Wars (1977).
"This Sith Lord sent by the Emperor will be our undoing".
Here's
@HamillHimself
and Vader (voiced with feeling by director Richard Marquand) in an early cut of the climactic duel, with on-set audio - from Return of the Jedi.
45 years ago today Star Wars began shooting. With a call time of 6:30am and a wrap of 7:20pm it was a long first day.
Poor weather in the evening would give some clues to the big storm that would plague the production later.

Forty years on and I still have these two books. Actually one of them is my sisters. But I am custodian.
What do you still have from the Return of the Jedi era?
“Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What’s important is the action. You don’t have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually the confidence will follow.” Great advice from Carrie Fisher who would have been 62 today.
45 today. Hopefully about half way. Though I've definitely lived a couple of lives already.
Excited to see what the next 45 years bring.
It's not the years. It's the mileage.
Episode 61 of The Filmumentaries Podcast is up.
This time I chat with Lucasfilm and ILM producer Jim Bloom!
I couldn't find a better photo than this
@MarkHamill
🤣
On Mon, 22nd March, 1976, writer-director George Lucas called "Action" on Star Wars for the first time.
This photo, snapped in Tunisia by Continuity Supervisor Ann Skinner, is one of the first taken in the film's production.
@MarkHamill
Jeremy Bulloch was always great at connecting with his fans. I remember when I first met him aged 17 or so and I asked him to sign a photo. When I told him my name was Jamie, he immediately lit up. "Great name! One of my son's is called Jamie. He's pretty cool too".
THIS IS A BIG ONE FOR ORIGINAL TRILOGY FANS! Super-fan Adywan has tracked down the lost Michel Parbot "The Making of The Empire Strikes Back". Fans have been denied this treat since 1980. And it's a hell of a treat. Behold! -
Dear
@netflix
. Please make The Movies That Made Us longer, drop the everything-is-wacky approach, calm the editing the fuck down and tell the damn story with some occasional grace, poise and consideration.
Comedy only works if there is something to counter it.
It's just been announced that the four Indiana Jones films plus all episodes of Young Indy are coming to
@DisneyPlus
on 31st May.
A great excuse to watch them all again.
George Lucas giving advice that's still as relevant today as it was in 1983.
"You don't have to spend too much film time to create an environment. What they are doing is showing off..."
