@lemonsproda the way poor people buy fast fashion is not comparable to influencers or whoever says they only wear outfits twice. i have piece of “fast fashion” from 10 years ago! i buy something and i make it last

@itssarahdutcher @lemonsproda i think a lot of people forget that not everyone can afford to be sustainable. a lot of poor people buy fast fashion because it’s what they can afford. fast fashion is still bad don’t get me wrong but i’d rather have poor people do that then go without clothes they need.

@toofkinkgonemad @lemonsproda exactly yeah. if you can afford something without those worker/environmental issues that’s obviously the better choice but if not? i’m not going to judge

@itssarahdutcher @lemonsproda A lady on tiktok who had really good advice on buying clothes- as an adult, hold it in your hand & think if you’d wear it 30 times. Then maybe buy it or maybe not. I know this doesn’t apply to kids clothes but a good rule of thumb for grown ups. Poor people deserve nice things !

@itssarahdutcher @lemonsproda I guess its because you have to remember that, even in your state of poverty, the people that make that garment live in conditions far below humanity, and also live in a line of poverty greatly beyond your own.

@itssarahdutcher @lemonsproda buying essentials + buying things you like and will use + not buying clothes without necessity should be the standard for everyone tbh, even buying sustainable can be bad if youre overconsuming

@itssarahdutcher @lemonsproda Exactly! Uniqlo is a "fast fashion" brand, but their clothes are so high-quality I've had them for years and years with no signs of wear.

@itssarahdutcher Exactly. I've had clothes from Walmart last over a decade because I needed them to. And usually, even if poor people are buying a piece of fast fashion for a specific outfit/event, we're choosing the item that can also go with other outfits and go into our everyday wardrobe.

@itssarahdutcher @lemonsproda Same! I buy fast fashion but I wear it for at least 5 years if not more. I can’t spend $$$ on each piece I own so I do H&M and Zara

@itssarahdutcher @lemonsproda this!! buying fast fashion is ok if you’re treating your clothes right and trying to get many wears out of them. i try to only buy things that i know i’ll wear a lot and that seem like strong fabric that might last when i buy fast fashion

@itssarahdutcher @lemonsproda this is the most sustainable advice imo. buy things you will actually wear, and don't buy more than you really need

@itssarahdutcher @lemonsproda i agree, a lot of these influencers just be buying hella clothes and then us just rhrowing them away. im in my 30s i just recently got rid of clothes i've been wearing since high school. all you gotta do is maintain your clothes -its not hard

@itssarahdutcher @lemonsproda I keep my clothes for as long as possible if I'm still wearing it, I have tshirts from the 2000s that I use as pyjamas. I pretty much never buy pyjamas because of that! Not exactly bringing home youtuber-esque fashion hauls daily
