Actually learning software engineering is overkill, but being technically literate is a requirement. Like we don't need to know how to write a for loop in JavaScript, but we should understand the concept of iteration.

I studied computer engineering and started off as a developer at first. It definitely helps you to get a better understanding of how most things are built.
However, I think software would be much better if engineers had design classes instead 🤷🏻♂️

This is true for the Computational Media program at Georgia Tech (which I did and I know a lot of other great designers and researchers that did as well).
I didn’t realize how helpful taking Data Structures & Algorithms and other adv. math or eng classes would be later on.

My web design program at BYU required several engineering credits! Almost gave up college due to the object oriented programming class 🥵but the knowledge has been critical to my career!
