@luciascarlet On Android, it’s actually able to change the app name (News, Notes, Weather, or… whatever the last one is). On iOS it can really only change the icon. No idea why it’s there on iOS.

booted with palera1n! palera1n should work for most devices, but keep in mind it’s a bit unstable on my A11 device, it has a bug where about a minute after going into sleep mode, it’ll go into “deep sleep” or kernel panic passcode also has to be disabled on A10/A11

As the lead palera1n Python rewrite developer, I'd like to update you all on the progress, and what's next and what's needed. The Python rewrite is basically done for rootless. It uses checkra1n 0.1337.0 to boot the device. We are currently testing A10 passcode.

Just a reminder that replacing launchd on iOS 14 is possible with the CoreTrust bug, which allows for untethered code execution. You’re also able to modify whatever you want, as long as you’re able to rename the rootfs snapshot to prevent it from reverting. The screenshots

Here's a good guide if you actually want to downgrade the X app, and get the old icon and name. This is a little more complicated but can be done on any iOS version, jailbroken or not.

This is just an example of what possible with persistent rootfs modifications. This IPSW was pwned restored with a 14.7.1 blob, and it still boots untethered with the modifications. Combining this with the CoreTrust bug could be crazy 👀

Today, palera1n's .sh version has been deprecated. palera1n-c has been moved to the normal palera1n repo, and .sh is in the legacy branch. I feel that everyone should be using palera1n-c at this point, as it is a major step up and fixes *many* of the previous issues.

Developing with iOS Siri Shortcuts for the past week or so made me realize just how little care or thought goes into Shortcuts from the team at Apple that develops it. Imagine how slow a Windows 11 PC on 1 CPU core and a slow hard drive would be. That’s the macOS shortcuts app.

With rootless, we no longer have to have the initial setup ramdisk, which means it's possible to jailbreak in under 30 seconds. Thank you to the entire palera1n team that played a part in the rootless migration. We're looking forward to see tweaks updated.

I also want to thank @eveIyneee for ElleKit, which finally makes rootless tweak injection possible. We are working hard to get a release out. Developers will most likely get access to the Python rewrite early, so they can update their tweaks for when it's ready for users.

Got Procursus binpack working so we have a basic shell. SSH isn't working yet but it's probably an issue in AquaLoader. NewTerm crashes for some reason so we're using TrollStore Filza shell. It's a possibility that the NewTerm I'm using is compiled for iOS 15.

I’m aware my custom launchd and script aren’t spawning the loader app yet. If you’re experimenting with the iOS 16 branch (which I don’t recommend yet), you can install TrollStore using an SSH Ramdisk, then jailbreak the device and install the loader app with TrollStore.

Rootless is the future of jailbreaks. Finally no more fakefs bullshit, finally a proper solution. We'll be using the official Procursus rootless bootstrap. Tweaks will have to be updated for rootless, and it's going to have to happen anyway (if a semi-untethered jb releases).

#TrollStore was added to #palera1n ’s repo! if you have palera1n booted, install TrollStore Helper from to use TrollStore on unsupported versions obviously if you aren’t on 15.0-15.4.1 (including 15.5b4), it won’t persist in stock

Well I’m currently trying to untether Taurine. I used @riscv64 ’s launchd haxx and the device boots, but it doesn’t auto start Taurine. All I added was jailbreak() to the end of viewDidLoad, is that enough for it to execute? I guess something happened though, because manually
