I'm a fairly slow reader but one of my aims is to improve that and read a variety of things this year. To that end, an attempt to log some of the things I've liked.
First off, MOTHERHOOD by Sheila Heti
It's pretty crazy the extent to which people's lives is literally bottleneck by their imagination of what their life can be.
Like there was tweet floating around about "what hobbies are there past 25 besides cooking and exercising" and someone quote-posting, saying how they
It's often somewhat niche English or Social Science PhDs that are used to deride academia and its value, but I remember that one of my uni housemates did a fully funded PhD in pure mathematics, that largely amounted to whether you could write an equation slightly differently
Israel's Public Diplomacy Minister:
"Erase all of Gaza from the face of the earth. That the Gazan monsters will fly to the southern fence & try to enter Egyptian territory or they will die & their death will be evil.
Gaza should be erased!"
Still questioning a genocidal intent?
Hard not to see this as straight up Islamophobia bait at this point. A show that was filmed a year ago, and blaming a Muslim PhD student who isn't even the captain of the team. If you try explain this, you get yelled at by someone who has a life peerage
Timeline is filled with some of the most horrific images I've ever seen in my life. Utterly terrifying. And what's even more absurd is that taking the position that this shouldn't happen - that a ceasefire is necessary- could end up costing you your job and livelihood
@jordanbpeterson
the woke marxist left will not stop until every man is forced to use a bidet, rather than allowing us to walk around with dried poop as God intended.
I love working in the civil service where my job is to manage the switch that turns the sun on. I make sure that I only make it sunny on Islamic holidays – Michael Gove is powerless to stop me
This years weather so far has been horrific, wasn’t it lucky for the government that 4 years ago when they locked us down we had wall to wall sunshine for weeks on end. It’s almost like they planned it that way 🤷♂️
These are testimonies of Palestinians who thought they heard children and women screaming for help in Gaza's Nuseirat refugee camp, only to realize that the cries were coming from an Israeli drone broadcasting distress calls to lure them out so it could shoot them.
I’m no kings college war studies alum but considering the size of Gaza and that it has no heavy weaponry, no air force or even a formal military, isn’t the “hiding behind civilians” thing a bit of a misrepresentation
I think it’s important for critics of Israel to at least acknowledge that Hamas’ entire strategy is to hide behind civilians and force anyone who fights it to harm as many innocents as possible.
@Lord_Sugar
Been standing in Trafalgar Square for over 3 hours now because I don’t know when the cross the road because of this. Thanks to Sadiq Khan and the woke left
LIBERATION🏳️🌈THE FIRST EVER PRIDE FLAG RAISED IN GAZA!
Under Hamas, being gay means death. Israeli Yoav Atzmoni wanted to send a message of hope. See his story below.
To Gaza’s hidden LGBTQ+ community: STAY HOPEFUL of a future where you can live and love free of Hamas!
In British schools, you are forced to read war poetry and if taught well, it's the first insight into how broken people become after war. How the guilt and fear consume and destroy them and later generations. After you leave school you get hit on the head and forget all of it
Madeley: "When they invaded Europe in 1944 & defeated the Nazis by going into Germany & in doing so... lots of German civilians were killed. But nobody at the time made any excuses or apologies for that. They just saw that as a necessary evil. Is that a fair parrallel?"
Not disparaging at all btw. My feelings on university debating is known, but I'm glad that the current cohort aren't neoliberal freaks who love to advocate for war under the guise of 'right to protect'
excited for every aspect of British life to take place in one of these. Schools, hospitals, universities. Everything is now just portacabins. Don't like it? Leave! (visit passport portacabin in peterborough)
Amazing to me that all the so called experts on radicalisation and extremism in government don’t seem to grasp the effects of thousands of people seeing this image and worse on their phones every single day, and if they do, still expecting them to side with the group doing it
I can’t stop thinking about the photo of the Gazan flattened by an Israeli tank. It is just unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I think it will stay with me forever. I don’t know what kind of person is not haunted and changed by this.
BREAKING: Hamas intentionally targeted elementary schools in Israel, instructed terrorists to seize hostages, move them into Gaza, and to "kill as many people as possible," maps and documents recovered from the bodies of attackers show.
🚨 NEW: Labour believe they have LOST the West Midlands Mayoral election because of Gaza
A senior party source said: "It's the Middle East, not West Midlands that will have won Street the Mayoralty. Once again Hamas are the real villains."

This police officer just showed up at my house while I was watching TV, forcing me to watch the Coronation. I kept asking him for his details and who gave him the authority, but he just punched me in the face, took a Diet Coke from my fridge and left.
If captain toms daughter was smart she’d deflect the current news about financial mismanagement by “just finding her fathers diary” and revealing that the last line he ever wrote was “end woke”
Considering we're nearly half way through the election campaigns, it's sort of remarkable that neither of the big parties has really addressed the question of how they'll get the faeces out of the nation's drinking water
Imo London should shut down promptly at 5.30pm. It would mean that people would have no choice but to get a good nights rest, making them fresh and ready for work the next day.
Just a reminder that not supporting same sex marriage is actually one of the indicators of radicalisation and extremism according to the UKs own counter extremism strategy - it was frequently use to deplatform and ban speakers at universities
In awe of Ahmed's patience dealing with patronising, absurd and dehumanising questions from the British tv hosts. Bear in mind that this is a country where people routinely call into news channels to demand their neighbours be deported or arrested for minor grievances
I didn't “lose” 21 family members.
Israel KILLED 21 members of my family, including my father, two brothers, 3 sisters, and 14 of my nieces and nephews.
'Starmer can't call for a ceasefire because it might affect his career prospects' really is telling but not in the way I imagine lobby journalists think it is
Starmer, who wants to be seen PM-in-waiting, can’t break with western consensus on Israel. In that he’s trying to speak to the country. But deep divisions over ME in Lab movement is presenting a huge challenge to his authority. Speech today a real test of his leadership.
Hoping Starmer does win for one reason: it would be very very funny to see him doing press conferences with Trump. I wonder what nickname he’ll be given
every day you go onto this app and learn about seismic, sweeping events that no institutional power wants to stop and will almost certainly mean any ambitions or forward planning in life is a futile excersise. And then you also see a deranged 3,000 word essay on The Barbie movie
Not to be alarmist but…this is what’s called a six-sigma event, now unfolding in Antarctica.
Otherwise known as a once-in-7.5-million-year event.
Hang onto your hats.

Turkish Barbers opening up everywhere, often in affluent town centres where other businesses can't afford to stay.
They bring down the tone of an area terribly, what's going on with these places? 😡
excited for warhammer to enter the culture wars. I want a minister to go on TV and complain about young men being too busy painting space marines instead of having children
I remember not that long ago, a report came out to suggest that conflating Jewish people with the state of Israel was a racist act. Now it seems to be the only acceptable opinion, that if you don't share, you should be arrested for
So as a “tolerant” country are we just going to accept that every weekend, Jewish people will have to adjust to avoiding central London? Altering their journeys to avoid being uncomfortably at train stations?
Not a glowing endorsement of multiculturalism
Just tried to film in Whitechapel for over an hour and everyone we asked to interview said that they couldn’t speak English. How can you have a unified nation we can’t even speak the same language? This is the future of Britain.
100k salary (UK) isn’t rich.. it’s about 5.5k take home pm after tax.
Let’s say you somehow survive on 1500 per month and bank the rest and you could buy yourself a shitty 250k apartment in 5yrs.
How the fuck is that “rich”? How pathetic and unambitious are we as a country?
I am delighted to announce that I have procured one million british pounds and pence from the Arts Council, which will go toward my double doctorate, tentatively titled "Queering the Cenotaph"
It does speak for itself, in that supporters of Israel have to resort to AI imagery to project aesthetics completely divorced from reality to justify why it's not only ok to starve children and bomb people living in tents, but also why people who object to it also need punishment
Talking about freedom, sat in Margaret Thatcher’s old Rover.
Earlier I spoke to
@Telegraph
about how important cars are for families to live their lives. It’s something anti-motorist Labour just don’t seem to get.
And it’s why I’m reviewing anti-car schemes across the country.
Starmer says Labour will devote itself to creating a Palestinian state.
He says “settlement building is illegal, unlawful and has to stop” in order to pave way for 2 state solution, which since the 1990s has been put into the “too difficult box”, he says
If it was up to me i would keep the "dangerous concrete" in schools. perhaps the fear of imminent death will help children understand what it was like to live in a trench, as I did as a boy during the great war
Honestly v funny to see "the matrix" now being used to mean 'anything i don't like'. Just today I saw some crypto guy saying that 'the matrix' wants you to drink tap water
Is there a death more glorious than passing away on your shared wework desk as a 35-year-old manager prods you with a stick because they want to berate you about the font you used on the social media quarterly reports
This morning i saw a very beautiful, rare British thing: An unleashed Bully dog going at it with an untethered horse on the road, while their owners were shouting at each other, and behind them, 2 range rovers continually honking their horns
A. Hamas is not a race. Neither is "Terrorist," but who knows what the Cocaine Left will cook up next.
B. One of the earliest examples of antisemitism is from 221 BCE in Egypt, with legal discrimination against Jews being codified.
What is Biden saying that's not accurate?
I love working at the local wal-mart and replacing all of Mr Beast's "Feastibles" with copies of the Qur'an - something my line manager knows all about but can do nothing to prevent
Incubators, baby food, and medical supplies brought by the

Medical teams and Arabic speaking soldiers are on the ground to ensure that these supplies reach those in need.
Our war is with Hamas, not the people in Gaza

@elonmusk
they only make documentaries about people who are cool and do great things, so im really looking forward to watching it - with a cup of warm liberal tears!!
Really not sure why theres still this insistence on portraying Israel as the victim or even that this is a 'reasonable act of self defence' when Israeli developers are currently selling plots of land in Gaza to settlers in the hope of making beach front properties
British journalist Owen Jones, stated on live on TV tonight that Germany was "making Palestinians pay" because of their obscene guilt over the Holocaust.
Setting aside the unethical weaponization of one of the worst atrocities in all of history, in other words, Owen Jones is
Congratulations to all those getting their results today!
The next Labour government will shatter the class ceiling so that every child, no matter their background, has access to the opportunities they deserve.

I am absolutely outraged and appalled by the fact that Muslims can be exempt from paying council tax simply because they have a prayer room in their homes. This is a clear example of religious privilege and discrimination against other faiths. Religion should not dictate one's
@HKesvani
did you ever wonder why you see so many images like that from this conflict but almost none from much bigger conflicts with many more casualties featuring the same types of horrific injuries and fatalities?
