I have to defend Rogan and Nickal here. Everyone is mocking them for being hypocrites here but what everyone is missing is that they are both very biased.

Grossed $10m after 38 fights over 10+ years, during which he was ranked in the top 10 for half that time & headlined 7 fight nights, challenged for the LW title on a FOX card, was the B-side of a 1m McGregor PPV, featured in 10 other events (including 3 PPVS) & won 18 bonuses.

One thing to keep in mind is that Thompson is not just not getting paid, he's losing money on this. He pays for his coaches, equipment, the ticket for the extra cornerman to the event. He even wore the fit kits & signed all their merch for free now, so he's in the hole on this.
Stephen Thompson admits he will be "disappointed" if the UFC does not pay him for UFC 291.

“You have managers that are in the pocket of the UFC that govern a massive umbrella of fighters. UFC uses these two or three managers, we all know who they are…will never speak up against the UFC. That is the UFC’s monopoly, their mafioso tactics.”
You definitely don't want labor protections, or antitrust enforcement, or corporate regulations, or higher top marginal rates from the government. That would just hurt you, the average citizen.

Daniel Cormier is right, the secret to negotiating with the UFC is to not fight with them. Instead you're better off by working with them and getting rewarded with a commentator job. No reason why 100 or so fighters can't follow this route.
@lthomasnews
Yes I went to the Chechnya guys sons birthday party. I will judge the world with my own eyes as you have. The people there were as respectful and excited to meet me as any other place I have been. Lighting up eyes of random kids in that town is something I would never give back.
I keep seeing some fans arguing that the UFC is taking all the risks with events. UFC contractual revenue from ESPN is $500 million. That alone is more than their total annual expenses. Before a ticket or PPV is sold they’ve made a profit. Where’s the risk?
Simple way to test this. Give me permission to shop around Jones-Ngannou. If I can get them more than what the UFC is offering then it doesn’t seem like they are getting paid “what they are supposed to.”
Dana White was asked in a
@GQMagazine
interview about concerns over low fighter pay.
"You always have something to bitch about, I guess ... these guys get paid what they're supposed to get paid."
“UFC tried everything in their power to get him to the fight” except actually waiting for him to agree to it before repeatedly claiming it was on or apparently meeting his financial demands. Not sure why Whittaker is carrying water for the promoter here,
The old assumption was that the secret to promoting is getting people to care about the fighters. That's why HBO's 24/7, Sho's All Access & UFC's Primetime were effective. But I think Strickland proves that's no longer true. The more I learn about him the less I care.
"You ask me some stupid sh*t like that? Go f*ck yourself."

No way am I getting to say anything about my promoter with regards to my pay, contract or treatment, but damn do I have a lot to say about how much his wife deserved to get slapped around seems to be an actual position held by fighters.
Couple thoughts regarding all the top fighters now "holding out" (Jones, Masvidal, Cejudo, Diaz). This is really noteworthy because A) rarely do fighters hold out B) a bunch are doing it at the same time (& it's 2 UFC champions & the BMF champ). This is almost a strike... 1/
There's really no reason why MMA paydays have to be so much punier. Ngannou vs Jones is going to sell as much as any boxing event so it isn't like the money wouldn't be there. It's just how one entity has power over the market that makes it that way.
I think
@Tyson_Fury
should accept Dana White's offer to fight Jon Jones in MMA. The UFC made $387 MILLION (!) in 2022. Change the game Tyson, and be the first boxer to step inside the Octagon!

This is really frustrating to watch. For a man that is supposedly very inquisitive Rogan struggles with the concept of antitrust & this case. I know he'd never have me on but maybe we can get one of the named Plaintiffs like Fitch or a bigger media name like Luke Thomas on.
The top boxers are not afraid to come over to MMA because they're scared they'll get beat up, they're afraid to come over because its a much bigger risk for a lot less money.
@MacMallyMMA
Boxers are too afraid to do a real fight tho.
It’s never gonna change. The only exception is if Tyson Fury challenges someone like Old CTE Chuck Liddel.
Thats the only way boxers would come over to mma.
UFC is very fortunate they have such appreciative fighters like Bisping and DC, who will share stories of their generosity when something that looks bad, like Carmouche's release, makes news.
I remember Dana did the same thing to me. Sent me a check in 2006 when I hadn’t fought for a while due to visa issues and he thought I’d be struggling financially: he was correct and it was very, very much appreciated.
Can someone explain to me, someone who doesn't watch pro wrestling, why it is now "back"? Why was it gone? Why is the biggest pro wrestling company of the last 40 years having to say it's back and what have they been showing all this time?
You know why it's clearly nonsense whenever White says a fighter was making "wild demands" or asking for "crazy money? Because the UFC made $387 million in profit last year. Profit. That's likely more than every MMA and boxing promotion made all together last year.

If Bellator the UFC are going to have events with no live audiences then have fun with. Hold an event on a deserted island or in a Roman arena’s ruins or a goddamn barge on international waters.
If the exposure is not worth it for a fighter then they simply can turn down the invite and not go on the show or do the interview. They are under no obligation, contract or otherwise, to speak to any member of the media. It's that simple.
@robnashville
Asked around and not only are fighters not going to get paid anything to wear the shoes, the UFC is apparently requiring fighters do interviews with Johnson's media company Seven Bucks.

It's official, the Plaintiff’s motion to certify class in the Le v Zuffa (UFC) antitrust case is granted for the bout class and denied for the identity class. The case finally moved forward.
White: Did [Jones] straighten up or is he still being a scumbag?
Lorenzo: Still a douche, but we’re inching closer. Haven’t moved on money, but sent the letter with an ultimatum.
White: Awesome. F*** that punk, Lorenzo. He needs to know we don’t need him
9th circuit has rejected the appeal, so barring the Judge ruling in favor of Defendant in Summary Judgment, looks like Le v Zuffa will be going to trial next Spring.
Joe Silva "offers me a fight in two weeks. I said no I couldnt even make the weight if i wanted to and we already had this talk. So cause I said no they put me on the shelf for six months, and waited till I was starving and broke before offering a fight on two weeks notice"
The fact that PFL can offer well above market rates for his opponent and yet no one thinks they’ll be able to get an opponent for him suggests that fighters mobility is way too restricted, no?
Deleted my last tweet because I am not sharing some Candace Owens lunacy. Embarrassing that Jon Anik had to give this person a shout-out during the PPV broadcast.
It is interesting how MMA will often boast about the number of college grads participating in the sport but it's boxers without a formal college education like Canelo, Tank & now Ngannou, who seem to much better understand the earnings potential of prizefighting.

Based on the large number of idiotic replies I get when I tweet about fighter pay I can only say I’ve failed miserably in my efforts over the last decade or so trying to educate fans.
It's pretty impressive how the UFC created a series where regional prospects audition for a spot to fight on a Fight Night prelims and got the media to breathlessly report on it as if it were major event.
Looking at the replies and it's amazing how we are back to square one with regards to fans' views on why fighter pay is what it is. Also, somewhat ironic that Frank Mir was used as an example by Kevin Iole back then on how fighter pay was better than we thought.
I never understood fighters directing their ire about pay at another fighter. The problem isn’t that CM Punk got paid more even though he isn’t good, the problem is that Johnson wasn’t allowed to leverage his position as champ for more because of the way the biz is structured.
41 min mark Bud Crawford "Let me ask you what you think of the business side of MMA and boxing. The way the fighters are not getting what they deserve." Rogan redirects convo in completely different direction.

Do your homework before taking. These are the numbers that the UFC pays their athletes. Not including endorsements. Much more than a 1 off fight

So at today's status hearing Judge apparently announced:
1) he wants to fast track Le v Zuffa trial for March/April (barring 9th circuit picking up appeal)
2) unseal everything
3) Plaintiffs' can pursue injunctive relief
4) start discovery for Johnson v Zuffa (as separate case)
How is he the highest paid when 80% of it wasn't from pay? Seems like a weird way to calculate income. Do they now include when an athlete sells his house?
This is pretty darn significant. Who would have thought, say, 10 years ago that an MMA fighter would be the highest-paid athlete in the world? No one. Massive accomplishment for McGregor.
Chechen dictator Ramzan Kadyrov posted a video of former UFC champs Kamaru Usman, Justin Gaethje and Henry Cejudo firing grenade launchers and assault rifles at a special forces facility in Chechnya—a facility that trains Russian soldiers for the country's invasion of Ukraine
If PFL is running a charity and Bellator is worthless, that seems completely at odds to Zuffa's attorney's argument that that the UFC was facing healthy, vigorous competition from these promotions.
White on whether the PFL is a viable competitor:

Plaintiffs in Le v Zuffa filed their oppositon to Zuffa's renewed motion for summary judgment and a bunch of exhibits. Will tweet here whatever interesting things I find.
Pretty obvious why White & the UFC repeatedly say they released Ngannou - because they don't want other fighters thinking they could do the same. It's why numerous managers were telling me Francis wouldn't be able to get out of his deal - because UFC had convinced them of that.
Potentially huge. Court not only denies Zuffa's (UFC's) motions to re-open discovery but also says - if I'm reading this right - that the Court may rule on injunctive relief if Le Plaintiffs prevail.
Paul is fighting pretty much the same talent level as most boxers would at that stage of their careers. He just has the luxury of having been a youtube influencer so he can cash in on it. I guess when you're used to Joe Silva feeding you into the meat grinder it seems bad.

Either the UFC is lying, because according to them in disclosed filings the highest paid fighter in 2012 (Silva for 2 fights) made approximately $4.9m, or Chael is. Wonder who I would trust more here? (Chael supposedly got $50k & a non contracted additional $1m at UFC 148)
Curious as to how they are spending to attain and furnish this "Fight Island" and if the money would not be better spent on giving fighters some sort of assistance while waiting for the worst to pass so we can host fights under more normal circumstances?
He should be asking his promoter for that compensation, since its in his bout agreement with them that he is required to participate in the post fight presser.
Email between Zuffa officials and their attorneys on not skipping due diligence in order to acquire Pride so that no one else can do so. Honestly, one of the more damning pieces of evidence regarding their intent.
When all is said I bet the UFC made up to $40m on this event and paid out under $5m total to the fighters. Event margins could be as high as 70%+ in that case.
