Did any of you see “First Lady” in my bio?
My TL is for language, humour and other light-hearted issues. I don’t tweet about serious matters like governance and politics. Though I’m married to a governor I’m not a part of government. I swore no oath.
Dear Tweeps,
I'm very happy to let you know that my husband, the governor of Kaduna State, has tested negative twice for COVID-19.
Thank you for your prayers and good wishes.
May God heal all those who are still COVID-19 positive.

On this day (17 August) 35 years ago, the LOML and I married each other. It's been quite a ride. Alhamdulillah.
Happy anniversary
@elrufai
You've been a good husband and I'll love you forever.
Hey KD people, I need your help. I know you won’t believe me, but they’ve definitely substituted my husband. The one they returned to me is too fresh and relaxed.
Thanks, Tweeps, for all the prayers and good wishes. The governor is doing well; still asymptomatic.
I'm getting tested later today. So, keeping my fingers crossed.
Meanwhile, Life (of self-isolation) goes on...

Today is my birthday! Alhamdulillah.
SIXTY, but still young at heart – What a blessing.

Rather than work, some married women may choose to stay at home and look after their husbands and homes.
Others might decide to vigorously pursue careers in their professions, in business or in politics.
As long as women make their own choices without coercion, it’s all fine.
Dear Muslims, Christians and Followers of Traditional Religion,
Unfortunately, COVID-19 is here.
Follow the advice of the public health experts.
They know more about this than your imams, pastors, babalawos, bokas and shrine priests.
Do this for yourselves. Do this for us all.
Seeing that my tweet about the verb “be” helped quite a number of people, I will be doing this sort of thing more often. However, I’m neither a graduate of English language nor a professional educator. Feel free to correct me where I go wrong.
🥰🥰
Caveat: No politics please.
When I posted the tweet below, I assumed it was just the usual Twitter gbas-gbos. Having read the tweets chronologically, I have had conversations with Bello. Never ever should sexual abuse be employed as ammunition in public/ private exchanges, no matter the provocation.
All you people talking about

Don’t @ me. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind. All is fair in love and war.
My belief: Respect everyone, but take no shit from anyone.
I didn't see any threats of rape. I would never condone that.
In English, when the letters ‘i’ and ‘e’ are next to each other in a word, ‘i’ usually comes before ‘e’: Belief, Sieve, Grief, Grievance, Cried.
However, after the letter ‘c’, the reverse always applies: Deceive, Conceive, Receive, Perceive.

Don’t confuse Invincible with Invisible.
Invincible: Too powerful to be defeated.
Invisible: Unable to be seen.
At the start of this season, Liverpool appeared invincible.
The way things are going Arsenal may soon be invisible on the list of EPL clubs.
“Been” is the past participle of the verb “be”. It’s used for a completed action.
“Being” is the present participle of “be”, used for an action in progress.
Examples:
She has been harassed.
She is being harassed.
The children have been fed.
The children are being fed.

There’s no such word as “luggages” in the English language.

Dear Hausa people,
We called one another by name before the Arabs came, didn’t we?
Let’s see how many authentic Hausa female, male and unisex names (with their meanings where applicable) we can unearth.
I’ll start: Tanko, male, one born after girls.
Next?
Caution: Controversial Post.
Opinions welcome, but pls no abuse.
Dear Young People,
Times have changed. With the way the world is unfolding, birth no more than two children, if any at all. If you want a home filled with laughter, there are children in orphanages needing parents.
If you greet me: “Good morning”, don’t follow it with: “How was your night?” It’s an embarrassing question🙈
You wouldn’t want me to start recounting the details of how my night actually went, would you? 🙊 I think not.
Ask me instead: Did you sleep well?

Please when I correct your grammar, know that I mean no harm. I make mistakes too. Please feel free to correct me when I do. That way, we'll learn from one another.
Apologies to anyone that has been offended, and to those that may be in the future.

The words below are homophones. They're pronounced the same, but have different meanings:
rain
rein
reign
When the reign of the king was brought to an end, people could not rein in their anger and so resorted to raining abuses on those that dethroned him.

I can see how my tweet may have come across, and I apologise to those who were offended by it. I say, once again, that I’d never condone sexual abuse in any shape or form.
When I posted the tweet below, I assumed it was just the usual Twitter gbas-gbos. Having read the tweets chronologically, I have had conversations with Bello. Never ever should sexual abuse be employed as ammunition in public/ private exchanges, no matter the provocation.

If you’re at a wedding, don’t say: “Congratulations to the newly wedded couples.”
Say instead: “Congratulations to the newly wedded couple.”
One bride + one groom = one couple.
But if you’re at a mass wedding in Kano, you can congratulate the happy couples.

Hello everyone. This is my first tweet in so many months. God, how I missed Twitter. BTW, I’m not defying the authorities. I’m outside the country. Looking forward to utilizing the opportunity.
Still on homophones. These are words that have the same pronunciation, but are spelt differently and have different meanings:

•rite

A barber cuts your hair. He does not ‘barb’ your hair.
The word ‘barb’ is a noun that has nothing to do with human hair.
But since we Nigerians (pop. 200m) insist that ‘barb’ is a verb, who are the English (pop. 66m) to say otherwise?

BEEN is the past participle of the verb BE. BEING is its present participle. BEEN is used for a completed action. BEING is used for an action in progress.
BEEN goes with ‘has’ ‘have’ and ‘had’. BEING goes with ‘is’ ‘are’ ‘was’ and ‘were’.
The last letters in each of the following “English” words are silent.
Vis-à-vis: ‘vizɑvi’
Debris: ‘debree’
Debut: ‘debu’
Duvet: ‘duve’
Faux pas: ‘fo pa’
The English borrowed these words from French.
Don’t ask me when they plan to return them.
