Yashasvi's reply to Nick Knight--In India you have to fight for everything from a young age, even catching the bus to training--is so beautiful and so true. We grow up quicker in India.
@sardesairajdeep
Dont forget before that entire Chennai crowd gave Saeed Anwar standing ovation when he scored 194 in 1997 Independance Cup. Credit where its due.
Out of 303 Indian Test cricketers, I have autographs of 257. And out of all those living I have all but five including four current players. PS: Out of 303 Test cricketers, 109 are no more.
Indian cricket fans, if UR feeling depressed tonight, just think how empty inside team must feel. Play 8 matches over 37 days, win seven, top all other nine teams, have an off day and out. And some of them may never be part of a WC winning team .

@TelegraphSport
India show tremendous spirit in coming back from disastrous 1st in absence of one of their strike bowlers, captain/leading bat, the stand-in captain scores unbeaten century, India looks set for big lead. And this is your headline and intro? Bad journalism
Deeply honored and delighted to welcome to my home today one of the great heroes of my youth, the immortal Mr. Sunil Gavaskar. A truly memorable occasion for me.
@rohangava9
Your turn now!
Famed cricket commentator Dr. Narottam Puri (71) lost all books in fire 20 years ago incl 5 he wrote; all out of print. He is looking for copies to gift to his grandson. Anyone has his books and would like to sell/swap, please get in touch with me. Thanks
In my final match in 1996 (NDTV v Parliamentarians' XI), Chetan Chauhan at 49 was smashing our bowlers all over. Captain
@sardesairajdeep
turned to me at slip and said: ""Chetan-ji is batting from muscle memory. Once you have it, you never lose it" RIP
Very happy 80th birthday to Abbas Ali Baig, a cricketer and a gentleman. Iconic moment when a Parsi lass gave him peck on the cheek at Brabourne in 1960 after he scored a 50 v Australia. One of the glamour boys of Indian cricket in the 60s
@BishanBedi
Former Kent and England spinner Derek Underwood has sadly passed away at the age of 78.
He took 297 wickets in 86 Tests for England, and a total of 2,465 first-class wickets in 676 matches.
May he rest in peace.
With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy now in its 27th year, this is me with the (Aussie) man himself at the end of the inaugural BGT Test match at Kotla in 1996. I roped in AB to do daily reports for ndtv.
Technician came home to examine fridge. Sees cricket photos/memorabilia. Says had trials for Delhi RT team in 1989 with coach Gursharan. Showed him my library/gallery. Starts naming the framed photos: Lindwall, Sobers, Verity, etc etc. I was gobsmacked!
Myth that Durani born in Kabul still persists despite this interview from
@sportstarweb
which I uploaded in Jan. 2021. I also wrote about it in my 2021 book Myth-Busting: Indian Cricket Behind the Headlines. But some myths it appears die hard!
First big match I witnessed with my brother and sitting with us was 6-year-old
@sardesairajdeep
whose father was playing for Bombay. Twenty-four later we became colleagues at ndtv
Sunil Gavaskar answering Rajdeep whether this team 'fearless." I will call them audacious, fearless indicates previous Indian teams fearful.
@sardesairajdeep
"Quite right, your generation faced fast bowlers unhelmeted." Exactly!
The first of the firsts! 🇮🇳
On This Day, 7️⃣1️⃣ years ago, KD Jadhav etched his name in glory as the first individual Olympic medalist from independent India! 🥉

Remembering Salim Durani on his first death anniversary, the people's prince of Indian cricket. Never before or since has Indian cricket seen such a colourful and dashing personality. A great favourite of my generation. RIP. 🙏

Australia out-batted, out-bowled, out-fielded, out-caught, out-captained and out DRS'd India. Ironically the only thing India won in this Test was the toss
In less than 12 months Indian cricket teams have reached the final of the Champions Trophy (men) World Cup (women), Blind World Cup and now Under-19 men's world cup. Well done to one and all!
@SriniMaama16
I was at Kotla for the debut, saw the slips and 'keeper glance at each other and move further and further back, surprised by Ishant's speed.
1. Here are photos from my book collection. This shelf contains anthologies, autobiographies and biographies. All alphabetical by author/subject. Space has run out as you can see. More to follow (MTF)
On wonderful day for Indian cricket, remembering Mum. Never stopped me listening 2 commentary in 70s even before big exams. Used to say, his mind will be on match anyway and cricket will be of more use to him in the future than any exam. Mothers always right!
New channel (NC) last night: Sir, can U come 4 debate on MSD place in side? Me; OK. NC: What is ur view? Me: Must be in the side. NC: But others calling same view. Can you change 4 our debate? Me: No, my its professional opinion. NC: OK, sorry sir. Me: bye

Gen Jacob was a friend. I felt honoured to be present at his funeral where the Indian army, who looked after him lovingly in his final years (he was a bachelor) gave him a fitting farewell
Dear cricket followers: The WC final ended in a tie, NOT draw. There are no draws in limited overs. In multiday cricket, 4 results: win, loss, tie, draw. Limited overs: win, loss, tie, No Result. Fingers are aching correcting this over past week, no more!
2006 coaching camp. Pleaded to bowl to me. Reluctantly agreed. Ball curled towards me, stepped out to drive. Suddenly disappeared from sight, left me stranded. Stood hands on hips roaring with laughter. One of life's greatest moments

Part I: On August 19, 1982 I stepped into the Indian Express, Madras office to take my first steps in the profession which 40 years later is still my pride and joy. This first report appeared in the next day's edition.
Advance 86th birthday greetings to the immortal Salim Durani who is fit and fine and living in Jamnagar. He turns 86 on Thursday. Here's wishing the beau ideal of Indian cricket a grand century in life.
A great day to remember this great lady. And also to remember the correct spelling of her name as on the stamp is Bhikaiji, not Bhikaji as spelt incorrectly on road and Metro signs in Delhi and other places. Jai Hind.
There is a myth circulating after Bishan passing that he declared 2nd innings of Kingston Test with India five down. Please note, the 2nd innings WAS not declared, it ended at 97 as 5 of our cricketers were injured. It was the first innings that was declared
Is there any possibility of seeing at least the final stages/highlights of the Eng/NZ Test match since our myriad sports channels are too busy telecasting the various useless T20 leagues worldwide? Hope some kind soul can help
OK, let me get this right, Afghanistan have beaten three world champs including the defending champs and are the best performing of the 5 Asian nations apart from the hosts. Shabash

In 70s, early 80s when live cricket on TV was negligible, Weekly cricket specials helmed by late Raju Bharatan were like gold dust for us. Incredible effort to organise pics, articles around the world long before email, fax, believe me.

Goodbye sweet prince--my brother's words when I texted him the news this morning. Now that's what you call matinee idol (movie star) looks. From Esso Album of Cricket Stars 1963-64

All those who finish their events have to leave within 48 hrs as per Covid protocol. Not sure about closing ceremony, probably highly truncated

Former India captain DK Gaekwad passed away on Tuesday aged 95. It would have been fitting for the Indian team to wear black armbands to honour his memory. It is still not too late to make the gesture

Cricket followers of my gen will remember when crowds gathered round TVs (and before that radios) at shops, etc watching cricket. It was a lovely feeling mingling with fellow cricket lovers, sharing joy and pain. Won't happen now (mobiles)
"I tend to think that cricket is the greatest thing that God created on earth," Harold Pinter once said, "certainly greater than sex, although sex isn't too bad either.

Bought this HMT commemorative watch for 50th independence anniversary in 1997. After 25 years still wear it regularly, repaired just once, other than that only batteries, straps changed
India celebrates 90th year of Test cricket yet one of few nations without a single cricket museum. This has been discussed for decades by

Some say pace is pace, yaar. I say nothing more beautiful than the bowling of Bishan. After few perfunctory opening overs, he would rub his hands on the ground for grip, a frisson of excitement would ripple thru the crowd...and the magic began
