"Dusk" stands as one of my favorite (and most overlooked) pieces of work I did for VA-11 HALL-A. On rare occasion I'll go back through and listen to my old, completed works. Went through VA-11 today, and this piece really stood out to me. Amazing art by @Sugarbush2333

Back when I was working on VA-11 HALL-A, I almost scrapped the idea for "Every Day is Night". I had the chord progression, drums, bass, and verse melody. I thought "Eh, it's only 'okay'". And then I added the horns and sax for the intro. After that, the rest fell into place.

One thing I think I've come to realize is that my style isn't "my" style anymore. It's VA-11 HALL-A's. If I touch an electric piano, a guitar, a sax, a slap bass, etc. - there'll instantly be many who bring up VA-11 (This sounds like VA-11 HALL-A!)

Fun fact for "Lifebeat of Lilim" from VA-11 HALL-A: The "breakdown" section is to convey the lilim breaking free from her programming and becoming sentient for just a few moments before reverting - Hence the robotic heartbeat of the kick fading back in with the cold atmosphere.

Second Round in its entirety I feel is pretty much my own personal "concept" album disguised as a game soundtrack. It's about finding yourself in a dark place, facing that reality, and moving forward to overcome. It was very cathartic for me at the time I was writing it.

Such a wonderful feeling to put a bow on a finished soundtrack. VA-11, Yuppie Psycho, Bushiden - Three completed projects I'm 100% happy with and feel were fully realized. My favorite parts of composing are the very start of a new project and putting a bow on it once finished.

The past few years have been an exercise in focus - writing hours of music in silence, canceled projects, delayed projects, etc. It can be discouraging. But VA-11 being such a success as my first OST, part of me feels like these past few years are me earning my spot in VGM.
