Should the dystopia and post-apocalyptic genres be treated like they are synonymous with each other? Or is there a difference between the two? I think there is a difference. Some works can be the same but not all post-apocalyptic stories are dystopian fic. WDYT?
This is how far I've made it so far. You can do it to! No matter how far behind you may have gotten or how hard it is to write your story, you can make it too!

Only four days of
#preptober
left, and I plan to make the most of it. Who is participating in
#NaNoWriMo
? Who has been outlining for several weeks or months? Who is just joining at the last minute?
5k written within 48 hours!? 😮I didn't know I had it in me! But hey, I love my story and when I got to a really good part I looked forward to writing for not just months but years then I couldn't stop writing. We can do this! You can do this!

I agree. I want to see more friendship stories. One of my WIP's I hope to work on after my NaNoWriMo novel is a story about a strong platonic relationship.
Look, I love a good romance, but platonic friendship is where it's at.
Give me best friends who will do anything for each other.
Give me inside jokes from childhood.
Give me sunshine/grumpy BFFs who no one else understands.
Just give me more than romantic love in stories 🙏
This has to be the most appreciated thread I've ever read. Writers often warn aspiring writers about the dangers of info dumps, too much exposition, and telling instead of showing. The posts by these readers prove why.

Wow! A thousand follows! Thank you everyone! You rock! I wouldn't have made it if it weren't for you. I'm so glad to be a part of this community. I hope for all of you to have success 🫶
After reading many posts of new writers asking, "How do I come up with original ideas?" I've decided to provide a one-stop source of tips on how to solve the problem. I hope this helps new writers.

As part of Preptober, I made two possible book covers for my novel using Stable Diffusion. These are not serious book covers as I'm not published yet. I will go for a professional design when that day comes. I just followed the tradition to make these for fun.

There are rebels who have been successful and popular. I think what matters most is to be yourself and not chase after shock value. I hope to focus on being sincere and polishing my writing skills.
Writers, do you know what a synopsis is? Like if an agent or an editor asks for one, do you know how to write one? Serious question, I’m trying to see something.
One of the great things about
#NaNoWriMo
is many local chapters have write-ins. I've gone to a couple where I live. I loved meeting other aspiring writers. Some worked on editing past NaNo projects while I worked on my character profiles. We can do this!

Justin would go! He would dress up like a ghost and have fun scaring kids. It's his way of being playful with kids and his foster sister.

When I get a story idea, I write it down. Then I start brainstorming. I give myself time - days, weeks, or months - to brainstorm as many details of the idea as possible before I start outlining. My brainstorming and outlining are mostly lots of bullet points.
@amrsalehduat
I always do a lot of brainstorming before I write, so I have my ideas down. I know what I'm passionate about. When I revise, I still keep what I'm passionate about and what I wanted to tell from the beginning. Revising is finding better ways to deliver on those ideas.

In my novel, there are the hardships of poverty and attacks of mutants. My MC wants the power to help deal with the mutants and to help his impoverished family. He later wants to find a way to make life better for all of the poor, but he does so in a way that he least expected.
@AlyssaMatesic
I have lots of ideas, but I pick my priority based on what I would regret the most to never do. I follow my heart. Publisher Tom Doherty once gave the greatest advice: Don't worry about the latest trend. Just write from the heart.
Now that it's October 1, it's officially the first day of Preptober, the month to prepare for National Novel Writing Month, aka NaNoWriMo, that happens in November. 👩💻✍️Learn more at their official site and by following them

I don't skip even if the book is boring because I need context. I wasn't a good reader when I was a teenager and would often skip because I was impatient. I regret it. I just read from first page to last page. I don't read it if I don't like it.
@AuthorBWalters
I actually have something like that in my WIP. MC is good with kids because he's a big brother. He occupies them by doing something fun. However, if he gets distracted, he is vulnerable to a trick being played on him.
@ReneeGendron
My MC remembers when he saw that there was a spider crawling up his older foster sister's back, he told her, but she didn't believe him because he joked with her before about a spider crawling up her back.
@SilvaKarianne
I am creative at any time of day. However, I tend to get a bunch of inspiration and ideas right before I go to bed. I have to be up late writing down these ideas before I forget them.
@Justpapagrizzly
@writingoutlook
I have lots of ideas for stories. Sometimes I realize an idea I had would work well with another idea. Sometimes I feel the ideas are different stories. It depends on the idea 💡
This song by
@malukah
makes me think about my life and how my ups and downs are reflected in my writing. The song also feels like a theme song for many of my characters. Does this song remind you of your journey as a writer? Could it be your MC's song?
@Nickyshearsby22
I say listen to music you are passionate about, like your favorite music. Immersing in what you love fuels creativity. Also, make playlists of songs that tell the story of your character's and their journey. Music genre doesn't matter. Any music genre inspires writing ✍️
@RewriteAgain
It sounds interesting. I think the best you can do is follow your gut. It will depend on how well it serves the plot and serves the character's journey. I have read YA/NA books that deal with pregnancy and childbirth so it's not unheard of for the genre.
@Ksparkle05
My best ideas come when I least expect them. I might watch a movie or read a book and then I think of how I'd like to make a better or different version of the story. I might just be walking down a hall, driving, sitting at work, cooking, lying down, showering, you name it.
I just remembered today is Columbus Day. Back in 2009, I wrote a
#Novel
for
#NaNoWriMo
called Columbus Day, a
#scifi
story where a teenage girl plays a major role when humanity makes First Contact with an advanced extraterrestrial race. I made this cover using GIMP.

@jmroseauthor
Back when I was a kid, I wrote lots of stories from the POV of animals. I changed in my adolescence when I wanted to write about human problems in the world. I have some story ideas for children that would be from POV of animals and insects.
