My 🇯🇲 summer pet tips bc this heat is not normal: - Shave down your fluffy dogs if their coat type allows. It will grow back. They are HOT - If you can’t walk barefoot, neither can they. Don’t be taking them on walks on hot ass asphalt. Early morning or night walks only for now

Something about this that I think is lost on ppl bc we don’t understand dog breeding here - choosing this specific dog was because they are literally made for this. When you pick a well bred dog, you’re picking good genes = *predictable* temperament, behaviour & good health

YES, you can go out during lockdown to go to the vet for animal emergencies. It’s not clearly stated anywhere of course 🙃 but we have been seeing emergencies for every lockdown, & the clinic can provide proof for you after. So do not wait until Wednesday if you have an emergency

Cat owners, you need to spay/neuter your cats. They ARE going to want to roam & get pregnant, get hurt, fight & get FIV, get lost, hit by cars, not to mention urinary issues. As much as I love unblocking cats & fixing wounds, I would rather you & them not have to go through it 😄

For the 100th time, if a puppy is not eating/lethargic/vomiting/diarrhea it is not a ‘wait and see’ thing or you’re gunna wait and see it get sicker or die. Get to a clinic within 24 hrs of noticing anything out of the ordinary

Cat owners. Here is a thread for you 😁 1) Spay & neuter cats, not even a question. Common viruses are spread by fighting - eg FIV, FeLV etc, and it prevents fighting, roaming, hit by cars/killed by dogs, as well as common urinary issues that plague intact cats especially males

If… - you’re on a tight budget - you’re busy - you’re squeamish - you can’t get to a clinic quickly and/or don’t have a vet on call - you don’t have a designated area for pups - you don’t have $$/time for food & medical care for mom & litter ….do NOT breed your female dog

Please remember to NEVER leave dogs (or animals in general) with young children unattended - ANY dog can bite ANY child, and children don’t know how to hold or handle pets to prevent injury - especially small dogs, puppies, kittens & exotics, like hamsters, rabbits & birds

If you have a male & female dog (or cats), you *are* going to end up with puppies/kittens. Even if they are siblings. Or parent and child. 9/10 times they will find a way 🤣 Accidental litters are not responsible. If you’re not a breeder, spay & neuter. Be proactive!

Not sure if anyone knows the story of this dog in Mona but he’s been there for maybe 2-3 years now. If he belongs to someone they need to keep him inside bc he keeps getting his ass beat 🤣 he’s a lovely dog and he could potentially use a good home.

bestie I’m afraid to tell you this....but bissy is toxic to dogs & cats. Yes, ppl use it for poisoning (& therefore think that it works) but it just acts as a stimulant + poisons them more - has caffeine & theobromine, which is the same toxin that makes chocolate fatal to them

Thank god for pet insurance. Had to take Jupiter to OOH last night and would be looking at £1000-1500 for initial workup and hospitalisation. Even as a vet I wouldn’t be without it!! #InsureYourPet

I want pet owners to know that ‘old age’ is not a disease. An old animal is not gunna be automatically ill & should be healthy same way, & they can safely undergo surgeries too if necessary. If something is wrong it needs to/can be diagnosed & treated. ‘Aging’ isn’t a diagnosis!

1. You are gunna clean A LOT of pee & poop. All day. A lot of it. You might step in it. They will get it everywhere & they have accidents way into their potty training. A lot of poop. However much disinfectant, paper towel, newspaper, garbage bags you think you need..triple it 🤣

Spay & neuter your cats AS SOOON as they’re old enough (I usually say 6 months up but can be done safely in younger kittens if it’s urgent) & until then lock their little butts inside when you’re not home. And even after that, don’t let them out unless you’re supervising them

JA’s puppy vacc schedule: 1st - 6 wks 2nd - 9 wks 3rd - 12 wks 4th (last) - 15 wks 1st booster - 1 yr after last shot (*shots can be given 2-4 wks apart. If early pup can need a 5th!*) Make sure the pup you get has a card w/ the right # of shots. ONLY vets can give vaccines!

JA, we need to talk about spaying & neutering. I realize that a lot of the time owners are afraid or unclear on the idea of surgery/anaesthesia, the side effects & aftercare, and of course the famous ‘just one litter’ ‘him need a one jump’ ‘she need babies’ 😂

This was planned for a few mths bc Han is a senior dog (he’s 8!). If you’re not breeder by profession, you can have most breeds fixed by 1-2 yrs. The earlier it’s done the more likely it will help prevent some diseases. Having a litter DOES NOT prevent these probs in female dogs
