On weekends, firefighters all over the city pull the trucks out and clean the apparatus bay. This is known as “scrubbing out.” It’s rumored to have started during the horse era when the hay and manure were washed off of the floor each week. Lots of traditions in this profession.

Ever wonder why they call it a fire house? It’s because we live here, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Because it’s our house, we also maintain it. Today we are doing some spring cleaning, which includes stripping and waxing the common room floor.

Bonus was the view of tonight’s sunset.
