While I love 2D animation, it's not as simple as "Disney is lazy now". Baxter's skill was unprecedented, most of these amazing examples come from just a few people. Lots of 2D people were thrilled when 3D came out so they could focus on acting more than slogging through labor 1/?

Renders of my new T.rex model! This guy was a lot of fun, but difficult to make it unique due to the overexposure of the animal. I hope I did well, colors inspired by rock iguanas, and the horns I rarely see in paleoart despite looking awesome and being totally plausible

This kind of animation is super fucking difficult, and the people who can pull it off aren't here anymore. James Baxter is special and his mind blowing skill does not come easy to most animators. Based on what industry animators have told me, 3D is a blessing for most artists

New Deinocheirus model. This is my first properly feathered dinosaur model and I'm pleased with how it turned out. I gave it a wrinkly neck inspired by marabou storks. This animal was basically a giant duck crossed with a spoonbill.

The more ambitious, the more difficult 2D becomes with camera movement. Beauty and the Beast had to use 3D for the ballroom because of the complex architecture, which Wish prob has as well. The Lion King is more organic in its environments and characters making 2D more feasible

Meet Amargasaurus! This strange sauropod had bifurcated neck vertebrae that is now believed to support a fleshy, sail-like structure made from tendons stretched between the spines. Created in Zbrush and Blender over the course of 3 months

Giganotosaurus animation test with skin simulation. @blender_org did a fantastic job with Blender 2.8, and the improved cloth physics allow me to make realistic skin folding and stretching unlike before. I wish twitter let me upload higher quality videos.

Meet Menoceras! This strange Miocene rhino stood no more than one meter tall. They had an ecology comparable to forest buffalo, living in small social groups. The males possessed dual horns a more robust head. It will be included in the documentary, Forgotten Bloodlines

I enjoyed #JurassicWorldDominion . It has flaws like weird pacing and messy dialogue, but imo was outweighed by the fun action scenes and set pieces (Malta especially). Therizinosaurus is great

Even after over 100 years, no dinosaur name (in my opinion) has ever been able to capture the same energy as Tyrannosaurus rex. It’s catchy, memorable, sounds cool, and describes the animal perfectly. I don’t think there’s any dinosaur name that’s as perfect.

Legitimate question, what’s the appeal of this T.rex? Everyone loves it, I’ve never seen a negative opinion about it which baffles me. Imo it’s so aggressively “cool”, looks like it belongs in Game of Thrones not a dinosaur documentary.
