CVFD responded to a reported mulch fire at 11:59 a.m. CVFD is working to confine and extinguish a large mulch fire one acre in size. Kimball Ave is closed between Flight and Mill Creek.
CVFD is working in conjunction with property owner to bring the fire under control.

There are no active fires in the Chino Valley. A change in the weather pattern led to winds bringing in smoke from the Central CA wildfires into Southern California. Expect smoky and hazy skies to linger in the area until Friday, per the National Weather Service.
CVFD has multiple units working in Unified Command on a vegetation fire that started off State Route 91 and is now burning in Chino Hills State Park. Updates will be provided as they become available.

On April 26, 2021, Randall Jett (third from left) was golfing in Chino Hills when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Matt Wilson, Becky Roark, and Jared Tietgan called 911 and initiated hands-only CPR.
🔺Update 2:30 PM–Fire is at 12 acres with no containment. Firefighters prevented the fire from impacting new development and a nearby school. There is no threat to structures or life. There are no evacuation orders in place.
BE 62 has battled multiple fires across the state. Most recently, BE 62 deployed from the Castle Fire in Tulare County to the Glass Fire in Napa County. BE 62 arrived to the Glass Fire and performed initial attack & structure defense. The quick actions saved many structures.
CVFD celebrated yesterday the life and service of Retired Engineer Ray Santoyo. Engineer Santoyo served the Chino Valley from 1985 to 2017. Ray courageously battled pancreatic cancer for over a year with the love and support of his loved ones, fire family, and friends.

CVFD working vegetation fire on NB Hwy 71 between Euclid & Pine. First arriving units found fire burning in light, flashy fuels moving at a moderate rate of spread. Forward progress was stopped at 2 1/2 acres. NB Hwy 71 at Euclid & Pine reduced to 1 lane for the next hour.

No active fires in the Chino Valley. There is ash and smoke in the area from the Hill Fire in Jurupa Valley. There is also a vegetation fire off northbound 57 FWY, north of Tonner Canyon Road.

CVFD assisted the Reyes family with their German Shepherd, Becky. She got her head stuck in an old water heater while going after a squirrel. Firefighters used tools to break apart the main body of the water heater and some Crisco to grease her fur in order to free her head.
CVFD personnel assigned to Strike Team 6828C are currently in Butte County, CA assisting in battling the Dixie Fire. The fire began on July 14, and has reached nearly 200,000 acres.

CVFD assisted a resident that needed help rescuing a cat that went up a tree & was unable to come down. Fire crews used a 14’ ladder to reach the cat, which was returned to its owner unharmed. CVFD helped in between emergency responses, training, and station responsibilities.
Update 4:15 pm: Forward rate of spread has been stopped. Crews are working on containing the 12-15 foot tall pile of mulch that continues to burn. There is a heavy smell of smoke in the Chino and Chino Hills area that is coming from the mulch fire.
CVFD personnel worked a 36-hour shift in Oak Glen doing structure protection and supporting a firing operation as part of a strike team assignment.

20 Chino Valley Fire firefighter/paramedics competed in the annual YMCA stair climb at the US Bank Tower in LA. At 1,005 feet, the US Bank Tower has the tallest stairwell west of the Mississippi. Chino Valley Fire firefighters came in second overall in the “hero’s challenge.”
