I donβt drink alcohol so why am I passionate about
#ukpubs
. The answer is because they provide communities with unique social spaces. They are economically, socially and culturally important. They are sites of our national and local history and heritage
#notjustapub
I will continue to research
#pubs
& their sustainability . My own expertise is on rural pubs but all pubs are sites of importance. Iβm especially interested in how history & heritage may be used to aid the sustainability of pubs & local communities

Iβve achieved so much more than I ever dreamed of :
- 3 degrees inc a PhD
- academic career which I love
- doing research which aids communities
- ongoing eating disorder recovery
& so much more. What Iβve learned. You can achieve your goals. Donβt ever give up.
A call for papers for a one-day workshop on Wednesday 10th July 2024 at NTU exploring past, present and future research into drinking spaces and places.
Tonight I achieved a huge goal of mine . To eat at a conference without knowing in advance what the food was. Also it was small plates buffet style food which normally, I find tough. But actually tonight I found it really enjoyable . Happy Claire

Economic, social and cultural importance is 'key to survival of village pubs' The survival of the village pub hinges on its ability to cater to economic, social and cultural aspects of rural life, according to an academic.
I had a great time showcasing my research on the

I would love to pitch a βvillage pub across the decadesβ but wouldnβt know where to start in terms of who to pitch to, or how to begin the initial process. Any suggestions?

As someone who has always lived in the countryside, and as an academic who studies the rural there are lots of biases, prejudices and inequalities (as there are in every locality) but the rural idyll, & maintenance of the idyll often leads to a denial of the realities

Very emotional listen today but such an important topic. Shed a few tears and brought back memories of my cousins in particular Liz (42) who passed away in 2021 due to bowel cancer
Had to share with you
@gemmaoaten
. As you know Iβm well into recovery & this was one of the last pieces of the jigsaw for me - feeling so proud of myself
Also incredibly grateful for all the wonderful campaigning and inspiring posts you have and are doing. Youβre a star π
