“Negotiations cannot end the #Russian war against #Ukraine ; they can only pause it...The conflict is unresolvable as long as Putinism rules the Kremlin. Negotiations won’t change that reality,” writes Frederick Kagan for @criticalthreats .

@criticalthreats @TheStudyofWar ¿Pausarlo? ¿Para que los rusos se reorganicen y rearmen? NO. Hay que seguir hasta la victoria final y la derrota y expulsión de los rusos de -TODA- Ucrania

@criticalthreats This is obvious to anyone who takes a serious look at Putin's track record.

@criticalthreats Captain Obvious. Putin is very, very expensive to current and future residents of Russia. Eventually some Russians in proximity to Putin will act on that recognition. In a sense, Marx rules, economic reality dictates political outcomes.

@criticalthreats Agreed. The only negotiation should be: how much does Russia pay Ukraine in compensation? And how many of Russia's leaders are jailed or executed for war crimes?

@criticalthreats @TheStudyofWar If Putin withdrew and wanted to try again in the future. He would use more clandestine devices like intel and social disinformation. The failure so far of soft tech and intel operations is eye opening.

@criticalthreats That is true, Putin is ashamed of not having achieved his subjugation over the Ukrainians.

@criticalthreats Good article. But v odd to claim that losing Donetsk & Lugansk would turn Ukraine into an economic basket case. In any case, Ukraine should not lose any territory, including in a diplomatic agreement as suggested at the end. Territorial aggression hasn’t been rewarded since WWII.
