Footballer Nemanja Matic has said he will not wear a poppy because it reminds of when his village was bombed by NATO in 1999. Britain dropped 531 cluster bombs on Yugoslavia, many falling on civilian areas. Well done to Matic for making a noble stand like James McClean.

Mussolini was executed on this day in 1945. Itโ€™s not well known but in 1917 Mussolini was paid ยฃ6000 a week by MI5 to spread pro-war propaganda. Churchill extolled him and the Royal Family knighted him. In the 1930s Britain gave vital support to Italyโ€™s war on Ethiopia.
