@Laziter
No kidding -- I kind of recall the app was $50 too -- I've had it for a couple years now, and I had to buy it twice for my Android and iOS phones...
@craig1black
Something similar happened to Pixelmator Pro on MacOS going subscription... except they actually did it right. Legacy users that had purchased the app originally are grandfathered in with free upgrades going forward. Only new users pay ongoing subscription rates.
@craig1black
Same with us. Been using Filmic Pro for ~2 years. Then, they’re like… Pony Up $ome More! I understand needing to be paid for more, additional work/features, but I think they went about it the wrong way for everyone that were original purchasers. Leaves a bad taste.
@craig1black
This is why I basically never buy any apps on my phone. Digital distribution is antithetical to ownership when the company can arbitrarily decide you don't own it anymore with zero repercussions for them.
@craig1black
@ChartreuseK
Didn’t they keep v6 “legacy” in the App Store for anyone who bought it previously? I just downloaded it a couple days ago (no subscription needed)
@craig1black
Thats not even borderline fraud, that's just fucking fraud. You bought a perpetual licence for a digital product and they revoked it. That's fraud
@craig1black
#FOSS
FTW
I can donate directly to the Devs or Project Foundation or not at all I can help promote the software, help in the Project or Community forums, plus contribute code or bug fixes Even though I'm not obligated and never will be to do any of that
@craig1black
Subscriptions are toxic and will eventually give way to single purchases again once enough people stop subscribing and AppStores don't list them as "free (in-app purchases)" anymore.
