Half the population's sewage not properly treated before release into rivers, lakes & sea. Sewage from 32 towns & villages not treated at all. That's half a billion litres of dirty toilet, sink & shower water entering Irish waterways every day

@codohertynews @codohertynews can you asked the EPA or IW for a map of all the towns and villages that are discharging untreated sewage, as this map is only showing works on plants and is a red herring on the visuals.

@codohertynews Too many people. 5.1 million, highest since Famine era and not enough infrastructure built to keep pace with this population expansion. Immigration policy doesn't allow for, or even contemplate, a reduction in numbers. According to Helen McEntee immigration can't be controlled.

@codohertynews It's easy to blame Irish water but councils must also take responsibility. Billions from motor tax was given to build infrastructure. How planning officials ever allowed a sewage works to flow into a river. Why were EU standards not adhered to.

@codohertynews Good grief. What is going wrong. Doesn't sound like this can be stopped quickly. Wild swimming be damned...so much for the health benefits!
