–PRE-SEASON TESTING IS BACK!
Here are things we will be watching for🧵:
🔵 RED BULL
-SLOW CORNER SPEEDS
There will be a whole lot to look for in the RB20! We’ll focus on the speed and rotation through the slower corners–one of the few weaker aspects of th 2023 predecessor
Pit Stops less than 2.5 seconds for the Top 4 Constructors
RED BULL 🔵 remain the leaders with close 43.5% of all of their pitstops being under 2.5 seconds 🤯
Mercedes ⚫️: less than 2% of all of their pit stops being less than 2.5%
Impressive from Ferrari🔴 and McLaren 🟠
#F1
Driver Reaction Times, 2023 Campaign 🧵
Fastest Reaction Times off the Line on Average:
Lando Norris 🟠
Lewis Hamilton ⚫️
Charles Leclerc 🔴
Lewis Hamilton, at 39 years of age, has a reaction time faster than 90% of the grid. 🤯
#F1
⚪️MERCEDES
- PIT STOP UPGRADES:
Of the top 4 teams, Mercedes had the slowest pit stops in 2023—be on the look out for some upgrades to the wheel guns and other bits to improve in this area
Lewis Hamilton had an IMPRESSIVE weekend in Miami and maximized BOTH stints on his HARD⚪️—> MEDIUM 🟡 strategy—🧵
Lewis on Sunday, was quicker than George (on the reverse strategy) for 78% of the entire race 🤯

⚪️MERCEDES
- DRAG REDUCTION
The W14 was hampered by drag last year—be sure to check out max top speeds to see if they have improved in this area compared to last year
⚪️MERCEDES
-REAR STABILITY
Both Mercedes drivers found the W14 unpredictable and with an unstable rear end—we will be watch turn 12 to see if the rear is stepping out throughout testing
🔴 FERRARI
-BOTTOMING
We will be looking at turn 12 for Ferrari, to see if the bottoming and resulting unsettling of the car, persists in testing. This caused both Carlos and Charles to crash in the same corner in Miami—will the new platform give them the stability they need?
Albert Park, through corners 9 and 10, are high speed with rapid direction changes—similar to the Suzuka esses.
We revisited the fastest laps during the race in Australia to look for clues as to how teams might perform through the high speed, twisty esses in Japan 🧵:

Hungarian GP, Average Pace, 2023 🧵
We analyzed the race pace in third stint of the race. It was 🔨 time in Budapest!
The Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton was less than one tenth on average behind the Red Bull of Max Verstappen…

TOP SPEED
-Can Ferrari bring back the top speed they had on the straights to compete with an aerodynamically efficient RB20? We will be watching the speed traps during testing
LONG RUNS
-High deg hampered the team in 2023–long run times can help to analyze deg rate
🟠 MCLAREN
-SLOW CORNER PERFORMANCE
Much like Red Bull, we will be looking to see if McLaren made improvements in the slow speed corners, an area that had lower performance for the team, despite an impressive jump up the order in season
Barcelona GP 🇪🇸, Track Changes, 2023🧵
The

circuit this year will feature a new configuration
The chicane (turns 14-15) are now removed, making the track 18 meters shorter than in 2022.

A small point of differentiation—Aston Martin did go to the Stewards after the decision was made based on that document—important or not, I’m not sure. But they were in fact present for one part of it
Ferrari (not shown) were an average of 0.845s off Max on the harder compound tyres
