Back in Toronto after another amazing LAIC in 🇧🇷! Started 0-0-2 and managed to run the table all the way to Top 4! Insane that my roommate/friend/fellow Gardy enjoyer
@jeremyg_tcg
and I both made (and played VS each other) in cut with the same 59/60 (memory skip ralts)!
10-1-4 for 73rd at EUIC with my favourite deck 🥶. I really liked the list, but the Cologne should have been a Manaphy. The Iron Bundle was VIP, and 4 Candy felt insane. Shout out to Kyle Lowry GX & the Cpao ring. The updated ultimate Cpao Guide could be coming soon as well 👀
Life has been crazy busy lately and my YouTube channel has been more neglected than I want it to, but I just filmed the most in-depth video I've ever done. I assembled the board for this next guide.... Coming soon 👀
I am joined by the first two regional champions of the year,
@estradabeatz
&
@raymond_LLLL
for my most in depth deck guide yet! We cover Kyogre and Turbo LZ, sequencing, card choices, matchups, and more! If you're interested in LZ decks check it out!
Just launched my YouTube channel, it's been something I've wanted to do for a while. My first video is a super in depth Chien-Pao guide with
@XingGod
. Lmk what you think and what kind of content you think there's a need for in the community!
Finished Top 32 at worlds. Really happy with my deck, I felt it was a great play for the event! This season has been amazing and honestly life changing for me. I've rediscovered my love for the game and can't wait to keep competing next year!
Back in Toronto after a two week excursion to London, Montreal, and Orlando! I finished 46th (10-3-2) at Orlando with a similar list to my EUIC one (-Cologne +Manaphy). Feels annoying to miss money by a match point, but still happy overall!
🧵 Thoughts on Cpao lists/cards below
Successfully defended Banana Games with No Vip Gardy. I decided to try out a build by
@mikefouchet
(deck list photo is his lol) and
@ak_rogue
with 3 reversals. Also qualified for my 8th World Championships with the win! 609/600
I'm an hour late for a date because I needed to win a cup (no time to lay out the deck list). As Ash likes to say, nothing's more important than Pokemon 😤😤
7-1-1 into day two. Super happy to perform at a Canadian Regional, means a lot more to me to defend home turf! Hopefully I can go all the way!

21st at Vancouver Regionals. I really felt like it was going to be my tournament, but some of the worst bad beats I've ever had ended my run. I've been on the other end though so can't complain! 2nd research should have been 🐠. Felt good to give no VIP Gardy one more ride!
Back in Toronto after a top 64 weekend of Cpao Gaming 🥶. The deck felt super fun to play, but same consistency issues as always held back a deeper run. Also got to experience Buc-ees for the first time which just elevated an already great weekend even higher!
I posted my LAIC tournament report this morning. If you want to hear my thoughts/process on getting to No Vip Gardy as my play, and how my rounds went check it out!
Just released my second deck guide. This time I am joined by
@rowan_stavenow
to give you an extremely in depth guide to Gardevoir ex. We cover different lists, card inclusions, how to play around Mew ex with Greninja, and a super detailed matchup guide!
Took down a cup today with Canadian-Pao 🍁!

Lukewarm take. This Frigibax is still optimal if you want to include a 70 HP Frig. The option to do 50 is actually relevant against Arcana Gardevoir and Roaring Moon. If I'm ever using Collect I'm probably going to lose that game anyways.
Finally back in Toronto after a month on the road. Had a great end to the trip in Vancouver, finishing with my 3rd top cut of the season. Turns out playing tier one is very good! Nothing too special in the list, besides my "signature Pokemon Snorlax" 😉
The Ultimate Lugia Guide is out now! I'm joined by fellow Lugia Bots
@RegannatorTCG
&
@gshen0603
to give a breakdown of both colorless and single strike.
Between the 3 of us we have 10 major event top cuts with Lugia, so definitely lots of knowledge!
My string of good luck continues! Finished 4th at Toronto regionals with Lugia. Snorlax was insane all weekend, I honestly think it should be a staple going forward. Shout out
@JeremyG34078230
for the idea. Also big shout out to my banana games/team spark homies 🌩
Went 4-1 at Banana locals with Torterra. Deck is surprisingly... not that bad?? Most fun I've had playing Pokemon in a long time. Reminded myself that playing meta/competitive Pokemon isn't the only way to have fun!
Canada clears 🍁🇨🇦 >>>>>
Huge congrats to
@CyrusDavisTCG
. Super happy to see how many successful players we've developed. Seeing our scene grow from when I started to where it is now, with so many world class players is incredible! Like Cyrus said, don't underestimate Canada 😤
These are all fantastic TCG casters, but would love it if we could get a Canadian on the broadcast for Toronto & Vancouver Regionals in the future. We have so many great players with great stories to be told! A local could really help to show off our players on stream!
Another Regional broadcast is coming to you live this weekend! Check out our amazing roster of commentators who will be behind the caster desk at the 2024 Vancouver Regional Championships 🙌
About to board my flight home to Toronto. What an unreal trip, I'm sad it's come to a close. It's going to be hard for any worlds location to ever match Japan! Might have to do Japan Pt. 2 after worlds next year!
Super excited to have everyone in Toronto this weekend. Thought I'd share my Google Maps list of places to eat. Please venture out from where the venue is! Toronto is a world class city and has so much to offer. Feel free to dm me for recommendations!😊
From my testing none of these cards feel broken, but they each gatekeep certain strategies to an extent, and are just unfun to play against (especially Valiant)
The Greater Toronto Area is the most competitive place in the entire Pokemon world. The amount of talent we consistently pump out is insane. Hoping for a Canadian champion! 🍁
Super excited to announce I've started writing for
@pokebeach
! I think it's perfectly fitting that my first article is about Chien-Pao, and why I think it's in a good spot in our current format. Give it a read and let me know what you think! 🙂
Finished 40th at OCIC with my take on Lugia. Fairly standard besides Lax. I went 7-1-1 day one and had a frustrating 1-4 day 2. I wont complain about 130 cp though! I'm at the airport to start my vacation in NZ, and flying to Vancouver Regionals after that!
Top 8 at LAIC with Shoegia (shout out Muhamed). Felt good to rally back from 3-2-1 and make cut. Shout out
@rowan_stavenow
for being a busted deck builder, and shout out Marlo for being a busted waiter.
Went 5-2-2 at NAIC to secure my day two worlds invitation! My heart wanted to play Chien-Pao, but my head told me Gardy was the right play for points. Was great seeing so many of my friends/fellow Canadians succeed this weekend. Been a crazy season! Looking forward to worlds!
Was curious how much money I spent this year to play Pokemon so I calculated my expenses for the year. If anyone is curious how much it costs to chase day 2 as a Canadian, here you go!
Note: Everything is in CAD$
Also want to give a quick shout out to everyone who came up to me at regionals telling me they're enjoying the podcast and/or my YouTube. I've far exceeded my goals I had set for myself and have been loving making content for everyone! Thank you for the support ❤️
We give a quick recap of Toronto before diving into how Paradox Rift is going to change your favourite deck, plus what we think of the new archetypes coming out. Episode 5 of Shift Gear is live!
@ElvianElvy_NFT
I had the displeasure of playing against Keito twice at LAIC. In my 12.5 years of playing Pokemon I've never encountered an opponent with poorer sportsmanship. I had an incident with him day one and requested judges watch our match during day two. Sorry this happened to you.
We are joined by the champ and everyone's favourite Twitter yapper,
@LiamHalliburton
on the pod this week! He breaks down why you should copy Tord, how to play Charizard, transitioning between age divisions, and has his Lebron fandom put to the test!
If you're looking for even more Cpao knowledge from myself, and some of my fellow board members then check out the Metafy group class I am running with
@gshen0603
and
@XingGod
. We are going to cover lists, gameplay, sequencing, matchups, boardstates, and answer any questions!🥶
Getting ready to board my 14 hour flight to Vancouver 🍁 from Auckland. New Zealand 🇳🇿 was an incredible time, probably the most beautiful country I've ever been to. Incredibly grateful for the opportunities playing a card game about mythical monsters has provided me!
I've been in Tokyo for 3.5 hours and so far have seen worlds ads at the airport, the Jr rail station, and on tv at this random ramen shop. Can't wait to see what the venue looks like for the main event!
Won this card at locals today. I'm not really a collector, but this might be my favourite art on a card ever. Felt fitting to get it on the anniversary of Ash's Pikachu winning the championships!
Dustin and I are both at Indianapolis Regionals. The two of us have been in a Play! Point race since the beginning of the season. I'm on track to pass the All Time High for Play! Points (154) in a season.
It would be really cool for us to be on stream to talk about the journey.
The main use I've found for hands is it makes miraidon and moon winnable if you start pao, and it makes lz favourable. I'd say I only use it 25% of my games, but it feels super high impact whenever I do
The Gardevoir mirror is one of the most intricate and fun mirrors we've had in a while.
@jeremyg_tcg
joined me to break down one of his mirror matches from LAIC. If you're looking for some more in depth content this video is for you!
Nobody wants to hear about standard, so we've got a spicy episode this week. We were joined by
@littledarkfury
to rank the top 10 Pokemon TCG players of all time! We tried our best, but it was super hard to make the list. Let us know who we snubbed!
One thing I'd like to see implemented is CP based on match points. This way you fix the lopsided numbers at tournaments and give people something to play for when they're out of cut. So maybe say 16 points gives 20 CP and then you get an extra 5 for every additional match point.
Wouldn't a system like this make a lot more sense nowadays, considering how big Regionals have gotten? 🤔
#PlayPokemon
Still has a big gap between ICs and Regionals, but isn't a disproportionate as the current one 👍
Just dropped episode 1 of Bad Deck IRL. It's a more casual series I want to do for fun where I take bad/non-meta decks to local tournaments and see if I can perform! Episode 1 is Torterra. Let me know what deck(s) I should play next!
I was actually thinking about this yesterday. I wonder how much Tord could charge and still sell out 100 seats. My guess is like $80? Not many games/industries you can get coaching/access to the person at the top.
Found this at my parents house over the holidays when organizing old cards. Probably the best sellers note I've ever gotten. Can confirm it didn't draw me good cards 😂
Just booked my flight to Australia for OCIC! Never thought I'd be going to this event, but the travel stipend and the remote work policy at my company is making it a reality. Going to be spending a month between Australia and New Zealand. Should be an awesome trip!
Had a great week in London for EUIC 🏴! Finished Top 128, netting me NAIC Stipend and +100 CP! Lugia plays very different now and I didn't feel like my play was as sharp as it was last format. Not sure if I'll play it again, but felt very strong when I set up. Penny was mvp btw
I have tons of thoughts on the invite structure and how the Pokemon circuit could be improved. Right now there's tons of problems with affordability, attendance discrepancy, time commitment, and Worlds or bust. Going to discuss with
@TCG_Aneil
on Shiftgear this week!
Invites were way too easy this year. Next year I’d rather see this for the NA structure:
350 points for invite
0 points from locals
Scale down points received from ICs.
New video! I go through all the meta decks from the 151 format and identify what they gain/have to worry about with Paradox Rift. Lists for every deck mentioned as well!
Super excited to launch the podcast with one of the best dudes in the community! If you are going to Peoria/cups this weekend give it a listen, we go through every deck!
Todays the big day 🤠 Wanted to share something I've been working on with
@ciaran_tcg
for a while now. We've decided to team up and launch our own podcast series! You can listen to the 1st episode here on spotify :)
(1/2)
The episode you've been waiting for!
@TCG_Aneil
and I break down our LAIC, Turbo Iron Hands, no vip Gardy, Gdansk + Brisbane, how to finish off your invite once you're capped at locals, and more! Also available on all podcast channels!
Maybe it's just because I was a kid, but this was always the event I looked forward to the most back in the day. Seeing all the legends from across the world go at it was so cool. Loved that the Worlds winner would always get invited as well!
@Pooka311
was a trailblazer!
Curious what kind of competitive content people think is missing from the tcg space right now? I have a couple ideas for series/videos, but wanted to see what there is interest in!
A year ago I didn't think I would ever play in this tournament again, but here we are! Super excited and grateful to be playing in my 7th World Championships in a couple weeks!
🔜 🗾 🇯🇵
Decided to be a coward and tie round 9 to secure day 2. Was facing a strong opponent in
@tablemon
, and the points tomorrow should help set me up for top 16 race. I started 2-2, so can't complain about another day 2 with Lugia. Hopefully I can make a run tomorrow!
I really hope this isn't true. SF worlds was probably the worst city and venue I've ever been to for worlds. At least we're getting upgraded from the Hilton basement this time.
