In 60secs, Stephen Krashen demonstrates how people acquire language. You *get it* instantly without translation. The problem becomes: how to get a constant feed of this type of material until you're fluent... So I built a tool which solves that specific problem @motherstoryco

In the Elon Musk biography, Isaacson tells of a poker game where Musk went all-in every time until he won. It's an analogy for how Musk - in Peter Thiel's words - "understands something about risk that everybody else doesn't", and how he's able to create companies that seemed…

If you’ve read David Deutsch, you understand the philosophical argument for why population growth is good and why resources aren’t limited. If this inspired you, read Superabundance. It’s the economics argument in full support of Deutsch’s explanation, and equally inspiring.

What’s the best way to mitigate the downsides of having low IQ? After you have grieved, and you're interested in moving on and dealing with it

To find an exciting problem to solve: 1. Pick an interest 2. Learn how people do things there 3. Ask: do the laws of physics prevent these people from doing this thing 100x cheaper or faster? If no, solve it. And don't be intimidated. All Elon had to do was *land the rocket*.

There are two competing theories of how to get to AGI: 1. Scale machine learning algorithms 2. Discover the mechanism of creativity (in David Deutsch’s conception of creativity) You already pay for ChatGPT. You can fund the latter research by supporting Carlos.

The spectrum view of intelligence is becoming *the* philosophical problem of this century. It began as an honest mistake in epistemology. But now it underpins all of AI doom, is holding up actual AGI progress, and is a contender for causing dangerous tech stagnation on the level…

Suppose an AI passes the unrestricted text-based Turing Test for IQ 100, but not IQ 115. Let's say $1/ million tokens input, $2/M generated. Who's out of work?

I love how Christopher Nolan is this soft spoken English man who goes into Hollywood in a private school outfit, tells Warner Brothers what film he’s cooked up, they give him all the money, and cream-of-the crop actors come out of retirement to work with him.

@GaryMarcus 4 decades in technology and you didn’t learn that technology always destroys certain occupations but creates many more. More people can now be creators and use A.I to be more creative. It levels the playing field. OpenAI will get rich but we all get much wealthier.
