“the industry” be scared to bet on artists they actually believe in so they overly depend on *data* to tell them who is gonna pop. it’s boring 🥱
i’m much more interested in hearing who YOU believe in. put us on to some art that speaks to you!!!
I get it. everyone’s biggest fear (next to losing money) is being wrong. but there’s so much beauty in taking risks for shit that moves you.
depending on data too much leads to everyone doing the same shit. art should be… unpredictable. idk i’m just ranting lol
@cheyatl
Most of the time the “Data” be wrong a lot of these newer major label artists pop off for 2-3 years and rely on the hype instead building an actual fanbase and fall off before their sophomore album drops.
so many different opinions about this & they’re all valid. funny enough I wasn’t even primarily thinking about labels when I tweeted this but it’s all related.
anyway… artists, A&Rs, curators, writers & fans alike… i’m always looking for new R&B that moves me. dms are open🍯
@cheyatl
Belief is great. But it all boils down to time and money. That's the calculation.
How long will it take to break this act? How much money will it cost to break this act?
From the artist's perspective, if a label offers you a deal based solely on belief, the terms likely suck.
@cheyatl
there are dope A&Rs and curators out there who aren’t data driven 😅
a lot of them are active on this very app. more focus should be placed on them. yourself included!
@cheyatl
everyone opens chartmetric and pretends to be able to forecast the next star, no feeling behind the decision. I’m putting my money on
@milliegolightly
🎲
@cheyatl
This because the amount of times I bring new talent to meetings only for them to say but the numbers aren’t… like you said new face not numbers 🙄
@cheyatl
That natural ability to do that can’t be bottled. That’s why once displayed, it’s too late, the data comes in to stop it. But, the Data from natural adoption of “popped thing”. Vs. the forced co-op marketing play “get it everywhere”, is also interesting as well. 📈📉
