Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was a Nigerian military officer and served as the military governor of the Eastern Region of Nigeria in 1966. He was the leader of the Republic of Biafra from 1967 to 1970. He died aged 78.
while the 16th Division was left isolated in Owerri. Instead of pursuing the retreating Nigerians to Port Harcourt the Biafrans slowly made their way up the Aba-Umuahia road and managed to capture Aba on October 15.
