I am aware of a distressing incident in the Channel this morning and I am being kept constantly updated while agencies respond and urgently establish the full facts. My heartfelt thoughts are with all those involved.

The right thing to do to stop people dying in channel is open safe route & centre to process applications at Calais. Tories won't. Why? Makes sense.

But they cannot apply from outside 🇬🇧; the UK government will only respond to in-country applications, which forces asylum seekers to cross by dangerous routes. Then they pretend to care when folk inevitably die.
