@PippaCrerar Has there ever been a PM been issued with a speeding fine? Which is the equivalent.

Boris Johnson has just claimed a historic first - the first sitting British prime minister to have broken the law.

@centristjim1 @PippaCrerar A speeding fine isn’t as immoral as breaking your own rules by partying while people died alone .

@centristjim1 @PippaCrerar The last time an MP received a speeding ticket and lied about the offence they went to prison. Those days seem long gone...

@centristjim1 @PippaCrerar But it’s not the equivalent is it, no sensible MP (with a driving license) would openly tell parliament they’d never speeded or that they hadn’t understood the rules (they’d made) on speeding but got caught doing it anyway, whilst refusing they’d done so, despite clear evidence?

@centristjim1 @PippaCrerar It would be the same if they were asked if they had been speeding in Parliament, said no, they didn't realise they had been speeding on a road they had personally set the speed limit on, and then received said fine and points after it was proven they had. Lied to parliament

@centristjim1 @PippaCrerar It's not the fine. It's the lying to Parliament.

@centristjim1 @PippaCrerar no it isn't. Tony Blair wasn't prosecuted. Johnson first PM found guilty of a criminal offence.

@centristjim1 @PippaCrerar Has any PM appeared repeatedly on TV and implored the nation not to break the speed limit? Does anyone know which PM was in office when speed restrictions were first imposed? Did that PM ever laugh at people who adhere to speed limits while breaking them themselves?
