fashion take:
is it just me or i really don’t get the entire ghazals and afsanas printed on kurtas and dupattas trend? 😭 like i have never seen any brand do it appropriately, just comes out looking overwhelming or super tacky.
like i can see the vision if the calligraphy or printing is very fine. but it’s mostly just giant, boxy letters slapped onto clothing and looks bizarre at most.

YES, when it first came around in 2018/2019 with nishat, i kind of saw the vision but now it is so abysmally oversaturated in the market that it doesn’t work
@casuaIcritique
Thank for saying this ! And basing off a whole brand persona on it is going a bit too far !
It is not subtle in most cases. Looks very “try hard”
@casuaIcritique
Pretentious and plain tacky for most part! Also just imagine Manto maybe be turning in his grave for this sasti appropriation of his name and work by the bourgeoisie begums or maybe having a big laugh at the irony of awam wearing his work and still missing it’s point.
@casuaIcritique
Tacky and super dangerous
Textile designers have no idea what the lines mean or where they're from and sometimes the wrong stuff gets printed...
I've seen many people fired or even labour protests after final production...
Always best to lay off Urdu, Arabic, Persian text

it was cool the first time. the execution actually stemmed from artistic value.
now everyone is just printing out their own versions because the original one 'looked cool'
