A random post from my Instagram feed…
A few weeks ago, Tyler Allgeier was asked to sign a hat for a fan back in Utah. He visited Provo during his bye week and offered to meet the fan. He didn’t just say hi, he stayed and bowled a few games with the group.
Being nice is cool.
The Josiah Phillips commitment represents a new era of BYU recruiting in the Big 12.
He’s from out of state, has multiple P5 competing offers, is not a member of the church, and he commits to BYU. Can’t understate the value of this commitment and what it means for the program.
For anyone that wondered whether BYU would be willing to spend enough to compete in the Big 12, the answer is officially yes.
BYU poached the NBA’s highest-paid assistant, agreed to a $30M contract, and did it all in record time.
It’s a new era of BYU sports.
Four-star safety Faletau Satuala is a BYU Cougar! Will start on defense but he says he'd like some opportunities on offense down the road as well.
Jay Hill continues his dominant run on the recruiting trail.
BYU flips Texas Tech DL commit Danny Saili. He also picked up offers from Oklahoma, Miami, and others throughout the process.
Huge win on the recruiting trail for BYU
BYU is starting to look more and more like a P5 program on the recruiting trail.
Two defensive backs with competing Power Five offers. One from Georgia and the other from Texas. No prior connections to the program.
Big-time pickups for Coach Gilford!
BYU WR Kody Epps, who was one of the players that hosted the Rashada brothers last weekend, is already working on Harlen and Jaden.
Like the Rashada’s, Epps is a California native
Multiple schools reached out to Roman Rashada after he didn't sign in February. Miami was one of those schools - the Hurricanes were pushing for an official visit. Big recruiting win for BYU's staff.

Jaxson Robinson tells Dallin Hall after the timeout, “He can’t guard you”
Hall is running the offense like a fifth-year senior right now. He’s making great decisions and protecting the ball against a great Iowa State defense.
Alt Khalifa was +18 (a team high) in 27 minutes played. He played really critical minutes without Fouss and Atiki in the lineup. 5 points, 5 assists, 9 rebounds. This BYU basketball team is deep!
Gutsy win over NC State.
BYU's 2024 defensive class is coming together:
DE Devoux Tuataga
DB Tre Alexander
DE/LB Adney Reid
DE Siosefa Brown
DB Jonathan Kabeya
S Thomas Prassas
DL Dallin Johnson
100% hold competing FBS offers
86% hold competing P5 offers
Zach Wilson was on pace (including a bowl game) to throw for 3,411 yards this year against the 7th most difficult schedule.
That total would have been the most by any BYU quarterback since Max Hall in 2009.
Huge loss for BYU.
This BYU basketball team has been so dominant and they’ve never had Jaxson Robinson, Fousseyni Traore, and Dawson Baker available at the same time.
And Marcus Adams has only been practicing a few days…
This team is so deep!
College basketball has a referee problem. That was a competitive game between two top-20 teams, but there were 39 fouls in 40 minutes.
Way too many questionable calls disrupted the game flow. A 24-15 foul discrepancy is also head-scratcher given then physicality by both teams.
Personal update..
Today I’m starting a new gig covering BYU for Sports Illustrated. First, a big thank you to the guys at 247!
At SI, I’ll be the publisher of a
#BYU
page featuring daily BYU content. Check out the launch content here:
@SI_BYU
In April, Jim Mora told me that BYU could compete in the PAC-12. I asked him to clarify his comments in my follow-up conversation. He doubled down, "Not just compete, they can win in the PAC-12."
Speaking of BYU’s defensive class…
Most BYU fans don’t know much about Adney Reid since he’s been living in Australia while his parents serve as mission presidents. Reid committed early over an offer from Utah.
Adney Reid could turn out to be one of the best from this class!
It's been a really impressive recruiting run for Harvey Unga since the end of last season...
BYU has added
4⭐️ transfer Aidan Robbins
4 ⭐️ recruit LJ Martin
3 ⭐️transfer Deion Smith
Both Robbins and Smith led their respective squads in rushing last season.
I've had fun writing on
@SI_BYU
the last few months, but today's article is the most important to date. Really appreciate
@Chazyboy03
for taking the time to talk about mental health.
If there’s a silver lining in this game, it’s that Jake Retzlaff looks the part of a starting quarterback.
He’s thrown some dimes that have been dropped.
BYU’s home game against Oklahoma is sold out. A BYU spokesperson confirmed that once single game tickets were gone, the game would be sold out. The last single game tickets were sold this week.
Arizona WR prospect Prince Zombo (
@PrinceZombo2
) was on campus this weekend for an official visit. Zombo was a 6A First-Team All State selection in Arizona this past season. ⬇️
@King_Hayes001
committed to BYU back in January. Despite making a verbal pledge to BYU, Hayes kept the news off of social media. With his permission, I'm excited to share my interview with BYU commit Kaleb Hayes.
By the numbers, BYU's 2024 class is the best of the Sitake era no matter how you slice it:
- Recruiting rankings
- Average star rating
- % with competing P4 offer
- % with competing FBS offer
In the coming months, other schools might follow BYU's lead and find a way to pay for walk-ons through NIL...
But I love that BYU was creative and fast. Major props to
@BYUBuilt4Life
and
@byuequipment
for thinking outside the box and getting game-changing deals done quickly.
This is a really big pickup for the Cougs. BYU has started to recruit Georgia more consistently, and it paid off with a commitment from a high three-star DB with SEC offers.
Dallin Hall has been BYU's MVP in conference play. BYU's system puts so much on his shoulders and he makes a really hard job look easy 9/10 times.
Tough finish against a really good defense. A few plays I'm sure he'd like to have back. But any Dallin Hall slander is insane.
Rough evening on the basketball side of the house, but fantastic news on the recruiting trail.
Tupou picked the Cougs over fellow finalists Arizona, Washington, Utah, and Cal.
I believe this is the start of what will be a very strong close to the class. More to come.
BYU hosted Walker Lyons (
@walkerly0ns
), one of the top '23 TE prospects in the country, last weekend for an unofficial visit.
Between the Big 12 invite, the win over Utah, the culture, and the environment at LES, Lyons walked away very impressed.
