My daughter is very upset with Jimmy Butler’s season photo
She is telling there is no way these are the same person
This might go down as one of the greatest NBA trolls of all time
Game score is a metric I like to look at to gauge a player's overall impact on the game.
Below is a list of the top 10 average game scores for the month of February.
Anything stand out to y'all?
I would like to officially announce the release of the new .
Apologies for the delay - as the original goal was to have the new version out before the start of the season.
All that being said, I have poured a lot of blood, sweat and tears into making this
Everyone asking what Advanced Stat tracks this…
This is the type of play that shows up in the plus minus, and the machine learning models in theory pick up on the fact that winning plays happen when this guy is on the floor.
That is literally what Advanced Stats are for.
He almost calls Luka his best friend, stops himself and then calls him a really good friend.
He wasn’t ready to take the relationship to the next level.
If Nuggets' Nikola Jokic would have to pick one player to win a championship that isn't his teammate, he'd pick Mavericks' Luka Doncic:
"Luka, of course. Really good friend. That's about it."
Assist percentage is an estimate of the percentage of teammate field goals a player assisted while he was on the floor.
Turnover percentage is an estimate of turnovers per 100 plays.
Here are the league leaders in ast% this season with tov% for context.
There is no “real” penalty for a kick ball if there is >= 14 seconds on the shot clock
Normally if the Center is kicking the ball, that means they have already been beat on the roll.
Resetting the shot clock to 14 is a small penalty to pay for stopping an attempt at the rim
Nikola Jokic leads the league with 45 kicked ball violations this year, per
@ZachLowe_NBA
The player in 2nd place has 17
“It's his way of saying ‘I just don't feel like playing defense.’ It's smart ... [but] we shouldn't allow guys to karate kick the ball.”

Walker Kessler is lapping every other rookie in all of the advanced metrics.
What are the chances he actually wins Rookie of the Year?
21.9 mpg
70% TS
8.3 Pts
8.1 Reb
2.2 Blk
I swear my 11yo daughter is watching more basketball than me.
She is second place in our fantasy league and managing the whole team herself.
It honestly makes the basketball season so much more fun to be able to share it with her like this.
Glad these fans got to see what they paid for:
Scott Twardoski giving 110%.
Ordering Twardoski jerseys for the whole family after tonight's amazing performance.
Luka is so like-able!
“Recovery Beer” - just like me and my friends every Thursday night, pick up ball followed by beers.
Luka is just like you and I, except he can score a 60 20 and 10 triple double in the NBA and most I could do is 0 0 and 0 triple nothing.
Anyone who is building a basketball stat site, and not including the WNBA, what is stopping you?
The exact same endpoints you are hitting to collect NBA data also houses the WNBA data.
It is incredibly low effort to include the WNBA in your sites.
I am working on a visualization that will let you filter to specific lineups and turning points within a game
I have a long way to go, but planning to add a brush filter that will let you select specific portions of the game - and watch those videos
Trae Young is arguably having a better offensive season than Ja Morant this year - but either way, it is very close.
Trae is likely one of the absolute worst defenders in the league and Ja is actually quite good defensively.
“All Star” is an overall award, not just offense
Has anyone else noticed that none of the sites agree on Usage Rate?
Trying to calculate usage rate for one of my tables, and trying to cross reference a valid source... turns out no one has the same results

What gives?
Per game isn’t an apples to apples comparison…
I am not even sure I would use per minute, because foul trouble would cause you to play less minutes
I think I would want to see a percentage of time a player spends in “foul trouble” per game
I have first hand experience with switching jobs until I ended up at the place where I was valued.
I have no problem with players making moves in the best interest of their career.
I also think the drama and team switching brings a lot of fan attention to the league.
Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving responds to criticism of NBA stars making trade requests: “When did it become terrible to make great business decisions for yourself, your happiness & your peace of mind? Not every employer you’re going to get along with.”
Donovan’s performance was better. More efficient, more assists, willed that team to victory (+19). The only knock would be that it took +5 minutes to accomplish it.
Love Booker and his 70 was awesome, I just think this Mitchell one was a little better.
Number of made shots (not free throws) this season to take the lead in the 4th Quarter or Overtime this season.
Is De'Aaron Fox a lock to win the clutch award this season?
Apologies for the delay in getting the new version of bucket list out.
The new version is up, but the data models changed significantly and require reloading.
I’ll post when everything is up to date. Thank you for your patience.
The Boston vs Cleveland game got me curious about each teams overtime record this season
Here is every single team's overtime record sorted by total number of overtime games (and secondarily by wins)
Cleveland being 7-0 in overtime games is 🤯😤💪
I feel like you are getting away from how you would shoot the ball in any other facet of the game.
The free throw line is supposed to be the place where you can really hone in and focus on form
Things like this feel desperate and ultimately I don’t think it will work long term
I feel so bad for those fans.
Do these refs understand the collective disappointment and money they wasted for these fans by throwing Ja out for a “Nothing Burger”?
I don’t have the answer, but as a fan, I am very frustrated with the amount of time replays take out of the game, and how they ruin the flow, while at the same time it is not fixing the issue of missing game changing calls.
Probably still a ways out, but looking forward to one day releasing this long running branch.
Taking inspiration from a bunch of my favorite sites, while still planning to have almost every stat link back to the underlying videos.
I specifically remember the extra space on the baselines led to a lot more athletic finishes on drives.
It was the one thing I wish they had kept… the extra space the baselines vs cramming the fans right into the landing zone
For all of the people who paid hard earned dollars to watch that game, that last dunk was awesome!
I seriously don’t understand how it changes anything for the Suns that he snuck in an acrobatic dunk for the home fans in garbage time.
Why so mad? Just move on to the next game.
Block percentage is an estimate of the percentage of opponent two-point field goal attempts blocked by the player while he was on the floor.
Here are the leaders in blk% over the past month (going back to 2023-02-03).
Anything stand out?
Was this okay? No
From almost every report we have of Giannis to date, is that he is a genuinely nice person.
Anyone can have a moment and do something they are not proud of.
That employee didn’t deserve that, hopefully we get a genuine apology and we can forgive him.
I hate charges so much.
Trying to run under someone while they are flying through the air is insane.
Can we please extend the restricted area like 3 more feet?!?!
Possibly two of the league's brightest stars are out due to this play - in the first game of the first round.
@NBA_University
@BBsports33
Seems like I am going to have to take an L for my “one handed free throw seems desperate and unlikely to work take”
I’ll get the apology form ready…
Might sound dumb, but Tari Eason dropping a career high the day after he was snubbed from the Rising Stars Game makes me like his career outlook even more…
20 PTS, 13 RBS and some mean defense in only 19 minutes from the young fella tonight
When people complain about how much money an athlete makes, I don’t think they realize the implications.
If the money isn’t going to the players, then that means it is going to the owners.
Do you really want the money going to the billionaire owners over the players?!?
I don’t know why sports fans have an obsession with talking about how much they think athletes shouldn’t be getting paid, but I wish that weren’t a thing
Donovan Mitchell 71 PTS on 78.9 TS% and 11 AST in a W tonight?
NBA seeing some all-timers this season. What a delightful time to be a fan of this sport
My 10yo daughter and I just watched the CLE vs BOS game and she was super into it.
She got to stay up past bed time because the game went into overtime!
Basketball is soooo good!
@NBA_University
@TheNBACentral
@CandaceDBuckner
I think this is an additional detail emerging from a previous story
I have heard of 2 extremely concerning incidents that Ja has been directly involved in
Hate to see it 😞
It feels like optics play an important role in these calls.
If I took an elbow like that from Embiid, I would be half way to Australia and it probably would have been called a flagrant 2.
Giannis literally sent Embiid to the ground after getting elbowed like that 🤯🤯🤯
The math is mathing
4x many roster spots in the NFL
From a monetary perspective, athletes stand to make more money in the NBA, so it draws better athletes
Least controversial thing an NBA player could say
Many times I'll see someone drive hard to the rim, draw help, and miss the shot at the rim.
But because they drew the help, it leaves the big completely unboxed for an easy tip in.
This type of impact is likely only able to be captured in various on/off metrics...
New Release en route! Should be live in about 15 minutes.
The Matchup link on the player page will return all highlights for that player/game combo - FGM, AST, and BLK
Three pointers assisted per game for the 2022-23 Regular Season
2L. Doncic 3.91
3D. Sabonis 3.86
4J. Harden 3.33
5G. Antetokounmpo3.32
6J. Holiday 3.27
7S. Dinwiddie 3.25
8C. Paul 3.14
9J.
I am not disagreeing with the point, but anytime I see an axis being truncated I feel like I am being mislead.
I invite all of my followers to take a pledge and say “No” to truncating axises!
Only you can prevent truncated axises.
Austin Reaves vs Steph Curry foul rate on drives and isolations.
No one is ‘hating’ on Austin Reaves. Simply pointing out the fact that he is getting a VERY generous whistle.
@Tim_NBA
Why would he block people in general? His literal job is to communicate news to as many people as possible.
I understand if it is someone crossing a line, but kind of crazy to block anyone, much less professionals, for dissenting opinions.
I think it is Bologna the Clippers pulled their starters at half time.
Such a frustrating experience for the fans that spent money to go see them.
Love the players who recognize the fans and play when healthy
There are some real Dwight Howard vibes with Rudy. His teammates do not seem to like him and his teams always seem to play less than the sum of their parts 😬😬😬
Billy, this is Walker Kessler.
He’ll do everything Rudy does and Minnesota will even throw in Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt, along with four first-round picks.
@Ballislife
Any time I try to step through like that in a pickup game, people always call it a travel.
I have read multiple places that it is legal to step through like that if you shoot or pass.
I also know they don’t call it a travel in the NBA…
In the 3rd quarter it seemed like Westbrook kept trying to reach, and Luka would just spin.
Seemed like Luka could get whatever he wanted against Westbrook.
Deandre Ayton doesn’t have issue with Zion Williamson’s 360 dunk
"It's a homecourt. He's doing it for his fans. I don't take any of that stuff personal."
Everyone saying Ja is a bad defender, from what I can tell from the "Advanced Defensive" stats sites, he seems like for his position he has been fine to good this year, while Trae is the literal worst.
There is a mountain between them defensively.
It's so cool to see all the people across the world using !
When I first started this site, it was so ugly, and I was the only user.
Hoping to finish up the Season Averages table (with links to highlights) sometime this week!
Dillon Brooks is glowing up with the Rockets by changing his shot selection. It’s everything
@ChrisVernonShow
wished could have happened with the Grizzlies.
Great stat here to explain Brook’s improvement from Verno on the latest episode of THE MISMATCH:
Looks like it is live!
Here are the updates:
- the player page now has season averages
- with links to videos from season
- ability to sort videos
- natural (most recent game first - games are in order)
- newest to oldest
- oldest to newest
- random
I am definitely bias, but I catch up on all the previous night’s games on - via the daily leaders tab
I do need to add a “Game View” (coming soon-ish)
But yes, the nba app is excruciatingly slow. And so many ads consuming all my cpu
Some stats just don’t show up in the box score or cannot be “counted”, so you the NBA community at large has come up with “Advanced Stats” to try to account for these discrepancies.
Planning to spend some time on "Lineup/Rotation" data today.
The NBA stats api returns an "in_time_real" and "out_time_real" which corresponds to cumulative tenths of seconds that have elapsed in the game.
In an NBA game there are 7200 tenths of seconds a quarter.
