This broke my heart. A Black woman tried to get help from the system that’s supposed to protect us from danger for a domestic violence restraining order against her partner and recieved the same physical abuse she was trying to prevent. The system truly fails Black people.

Let us not forget that in 1954 Betty White’s show was canceled shortly after receiving backlash for her refusal to cancel Black tap dancer, Arthur Duncan. She extended his airtime instead, and responded to racists with “I’m sorry. Live with it.”

Neema Barnette is the first African American woman to direct a prime time sitcom and to get a 3-picture deal with Sony. She’s directed episodes of A Different World, Luke Cage Gilmore Girls, Queen Sugar, Love Is, Harlem, Reasonable Doubt + more. At age 73, she’s still directing.

I got an A in my UCLA Feature Film Screenwriting course! In the middle of a pandemic, got laid off from my job due to covid-19, feeling down, went through hell trying to get unemployment, got seriously ill, ER admitted me and hooked me up to an IV but still managed to get an A!!
