Wtf does the HMRC choose not to robustly challenge rich taxpayers claiming non-dom status in the same manner the DWP responds to cases of welfare support? Obvs I know the answer. The violence we do to poor people in this country is disgusting, as is the way we pander to the rich

@blue_stocking @ChrisKempshall It seems that Sunak's wife is a citizen of India with no UK nationality. Her tax domicile is evidently not in the UK (why would it be?). So she is at liberty to claim non-domiciled status and only pay tax on earnings in the UK. That's all legal. What is HMRC supposed to do?

It’s been reported that the Chancellor’s wife, Akshata Murthy, is not tax domiciled in the UK. This has been confirmed by a statement issued on her behalf. But I think the statement of facts issued by her is wrong. And I also suggest HMRC could challenge this claim. A thread….
