i really dislike how American celebrities portray Africa as this fetishized land that serves as nothing more than an aesthetic backdrop for them in the face of their own internal conflict or whatever journey they are currently undergoing.
@Whitb_xx
my problem is not it being out, it's the subject matter... American media only ever cares to engage Africa when an American celebrity is affiliated, people aren't tuning in for Ghana, they are tuning in for Kendrick thus putting Ghanaians on the backburner
& this is my problem with y'all.
no critical thinking whatsoever. do you not think we should ever get media that prioritizes African stories ?
no, because you only ever care to engage Africans, when they are in close proximity to American celebrities
@thaddeusmacabee
i'm begging you to read. at what point did i claim he has no right to reconnect to his motherland?
i explicitly stated that my issue was with how Africans are placed on the backburner whenever an American celebrity is associated, and these are the only projects that are greenlit
@joshuakinu
baby you have made three versions of this comment on my tweets, it's clear you not here to engage earnestly so do us both a favor & hop out my mentions x

You donโt own Ghana nor is anyone obligated to create content on what YOU want. This is HIS documenting of his trip there and him searching for a connection to the land his ancestors were stolen from. Create the content you want to see like he didnโt
@blekjpg
Maybe thereโs something I donโt understand but I donโt see the point in shaming an artiste for using their platform and their fansโ interest in their brand to open the fansโ eyes to a โnewโ culture/people.
@blekjpg
I read the thread and understand your stance, but you gotta realize whatโs best for the group. Yes the documentary is centered around Kendrick, but because of him it brings exposure to Ghana. With that exposure brings travel, revenue, and jobs to Ghana.
@blekjpg
Like you was going to watch it anyways yโall have big problem with AAs coming to Ghana when we literally descend from west Africa . This is about Kendrick Lamar not a documentary about Ghana
@blekjpg
Itโs understandable that as a people and nation they are wholly ignored and how frustrating that can be. Americans in general are self serving and canโt see the connection or beauty without a guide first. The backdrop makes it appealing, but the immersion will help them realize.
@blekjpg
The people of Ghana ๐ฌ๐ญ are beautiful & amazing. We visit the country quite often. A documentary on Ghana through the eyes of Ghanaians are stories best told by Ghanaians. They do NOT need American celebrities to tell their story. They can speak for themselves.
@blekjpg
if you wanna experience the ghanaian culture they exist, they donโt need no help from no american to come do some documentary to protray sh*t
@blekjpg
There are documentaries about Africa, look for them, just because youโre only seeing this and deciding to crusade doesnโt mean that Africa doesnโt get documentation lol
