Kazu's pet bat(?) is technically the 1st Devil's Candy character created. It was an out-of-place mascot character from a story that predated Devil's Candy. By the way, unlike Nemo's bat, the one in the flashback is flesh and blood. Hmmm... #DevilsCandyFacts

The further I get in One Piece scripts, the more I sweat, because there are more and more elements that haven't been resolved in the manga yet, so I might make a bad guess on interpreting a line. I see ones that translators miss sometimes, though, so I don't feel so bad.

It's funny, but ADR writers spend a lot more time with the Japanese cast of an anime than the English cast. We watch the dub maybe once, but we spend 40+ hours a week with the raw version.

Usually in dubs, ADR writers have to ADD to the script to fit flaps. Sometimes a lot. In Heaven Official's Blessing, we had to do the opposite. In some cases, we had to sneak in dialogue when mouths weren't seen just to convey all of the info. I think we made it work, though!

There is a frustrating trend among some fans who feel like a literal translation is more authentic or accurate than an adapted one. I see people who aren't fluent in Japanese complain about the most minute details. (1/11)

I get a little bummed seeing people dismiss #Sarazanmai as "weird." It's not only coherent, but hugely effective within its own reality. Animation has no limits. I think it's better to make things that people have never seen before.

The character he was playing was very big. It would take 4 Chrises, combined like Voltron to achieve his size. Before Chris started reading his lines, he puffed out his chest, took several mighty breaths, stood on his toes and seemed to inflate himself. (2/3)

Another Devil's Candy thing...On the current page (8-04) I wanted to show that Mark was insecure about his origins, but felt brave enough to be honest after seeing Pandora's confidence. It was a little subtle, so maybe people didn't understand.

Fairly recently after it started in Japan, I was skimming through an issue of Shonen Jump and saw a One Piece double page spread. I thought it looked so unique and full of energy and dove in immediately, despite my incredibly poor Japanese. I've read it religiously ever since.

The protagonists could not have beaten Tremolo without Mark and they couldn't have done it if he hadn't challenged them to a rock-off specifically. Nic could dissect them in seconds. None of them are as strong as Pia, etc. (2/2)

Callback lines in anime are a nightmare for ADR writers, because half the time, the number of flaps will be completely different and making a proper reference is literally...physically impossible. This, has of course, been a nightmare on Sarazanmai in particular (1/3)

There are a lot of voice actors that appear and disappear (like me!) and I see comments like "I thought they retired" or "I thought they were focusing on something else." For people who aren't aggressive about their careers, they're probably just not getting the call. (1/5)
