In sum: I cannot support a theology that limits God's calling for women simply because they are women. I cannot support a theology that centers men simply because they are men. I cannot support a theology that ordains women to subordination simply because they are women.

FYI I’m not deconstructing faith. My faith isn’t built on US evangelicalism. And, for me, 1 of the main reasons my faith has never been challenged is because of my knowledge of history. I’ve learned to separate culture from what I believe about Jesus. Y’all should do the same.

"Those who believe in patriarchy have noble notions of men being called by God to protect women & children, but the reality is that patriarchy leads men to protect the patriarchal system. To protect themselves." My husband wrote these words about Guidepost report. He is right.

To those who still believe in male headship and female submission, I understand why you believe it. I believe you are genuine and faithful Christians, my brothers and sisters. But I can no longer pretend that any form of complementarianism is ok. Because it isn’t.

Isn’t it ironic how white evangelicals reject the reality of systemic oppression we don’t want to see, arguing the way to change culture is by changing hearts, yet are quick to use legal and political structures to force the cultural change we do want to see? Just a thought.

A 🧵: Complementarianism is a harmful structure that teaches gender hierarchy is ordained by God. It claims a beautiful vision of different but equal while teaching there is something innate to masculinity that makes men leaders and women followers. This is not equality.

The fact that TVC framed Chandler’s leave of absence as a result of an overly familiar non sexual non romantic friendship disturbs me bc it suggests friendships with women are dangerous.

I've really driven a lot of folk crazy this week by refusing to engage on the terms they have dictated. Y'all, you can be a faithful Christian who affirms scriptural authority yet rejects complementarianism. Do not let anyone convince you otherwise.

134 donors have given just shy of 11k to our little church. I’m not good writing thank you notes, but you better believe it each one of you will get one from us. Thank you doesn’t begin to cover it.

As I have said before, it would behoove white evangelicals to consider why they are losing the support of Christians just as faithful as they are rather than simply writing them off as ‘not taking the Bible seriously.’

This is such a great chart illustrating the impact of the ESV for women.....

@DrewLewisAZ @TylerWS @Writerwhsmith @DaleMCoulter You can observe how ESV editors adjusted key texts toward more complementarian readings by comparing it with its parent text, the 1971 RSV. Here are a few tables I made for an article on this topic. Far right column explains implications. I'll include @bethallisonbarr here too.

Bear with me: I'm struggling with the stated reason for TVC disciplining Matt Chandler: "frequency and familiarity" of conversations with a woman "who was not his wife." I suspect this isn't the whole story. But that doesn't matter for my concern:

And, please, y'all. Think hard about what you mean by Christian orthodoxy and who is defining it for you. And if your library is full of only white western men who mostly espouse new Calvinist reformed theology and/or Christian hedonism, do me a favor and read someone else.

Just a few of the comments folk sent us. We taped them on the pews for our congregation to see.
