The Army's failure to stand with an elected Prime Minister against a *potentially* foreign-initiated plot will again damage its credibility and vindicate its foes. Flaws aside, I always liked Imran. He also greatly helped Afghans in KPK. Sabotage of principled politics is sad.

Panjsher was held hostage to the ego of one man and the video game fantasy of another who thought he was his father's incarnate. They led their sons into an unwinnable war, needlessly killing hundreds, and then predictably ran away. The people of Panjsher deserve better.

This is big. A Deobandi (?) seminary in Herat releases a fatwa (religious ruling) declaring education for girls not just permissible, but emphasising its necessity. Domestic pressure on the government, even from quarters more inclined to support it, is building up.

Donald Trump came to Afghanistan and gave a speech in which he had Ashraf Ghani literally removed offstage to stand with US soldiers. Yet it's Imran Khan's badly phrased, generic remarks on cultural sensitivity that provoke the most angst from predictable quarters. I wonder why.

I wonder who the Pakistani military had in mind when killing Afghan civilians in Ramadan. Was it to distract the domestic audience, where it's losing credibility after Imran Khan's ouster? Or was it DC, for whom the the Army could again be, as Imran Khan coined it, a "hired gun"?

It is foul to punish the people of Afghanistan collectively out of a petty grudge. The bare minimum is to allow them to slowly recover from the poverty you plunged them into through war, occupation and a ponzy-scheme economy that melted before you even left. #UnfreezeAfgMoney

Pakistan's FM says that world patience with the Taliban is running out. He's right. The world had 2 decades of patience for a notoriously corrupt regime it imposed and mired in war, but only 15 months for a shadowy clique's dysfunctional but peaceful governance. One wonders why.

Secular ethnonationalists in Afghanistan generally aren't brave enough to say 'we don't want Islamic law implemented in our country' because that would lose alienate even their co-ethnics. That's why they resort to saying 'we don't want Pashtunwali imposed on us'.

I'm not at all a cricket fan but the reality is that #Afghanistan 's cricket team has made #Afghans around the world proud. I hope the government, going forward, also encourages football so we can look to compete internationally in that too. #AFGvSCO

The Massouds called a rebellion, asked the world for weapons, failed comically, and fled to Tajikistan. Still, they have enough $ to hire lobbyists in DC despite fundraising thousands of $ 'for the people of Panjsher'. Yet, they should be given seats in government. 'Inclusivity'.

'Winning a war is one thing, but governing is another. Governance is harder.' Usually pointed out by people who failed at both governing and war for two decades, to the people who won a war and have been in government for two months.

The UK had 85 generals in 2017 *in total*. In Afghanistan, roughly half the UK population, Minister of Defence Fahim promoted 100 generals in 2002 *alone*. The first 90 were from Panjsher; Panjsher itself remained impoverished. The MoD was a ponzy scheme. The result is before us.

Gestures that goes a long way. The #Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs 'announce[d] a relief package of 10 million Afghanis ($111,024) and 5 million Afghanis ($55,512) to #T ürkiye and #Syria respectively on the basis of shared humanity and Islamic brotherhood.'

Beyond semantics, the divide in Afghanistan is glaring. We have a chunk of a largely foreign educated intelligentsia for whom the country is free when bombarded and occupied by superpowers, but occupied when ruled by compatriots, however flawed, with whom they disagree.

It is a myth that Afghans can’t be defeated. Maharaja Ranjit Singh conquered whole KPK, Khyber Pass, Kashmir & GB. Hari Singh Nalwa is still feared by Afghani mothers. Since we have changed our icons to barbarians across Khyber Pass therefore our society has been destroyed.

What's funny is that Farahnaz has also mocked the religiosity of Taliban merely for sitting next to women. Despite that, nothing can demonstrates how much much out of touch she is with the customs of rural Afghans more than this tweet/picture.

When you're an old man who started his career as a communist, were expelled from Afghanistan after even Dr. Najib realised you were a fraud, and aren't taken seriously even in your home province, you spend your days rambling and tweeting about your neighbour to a shrinking crowd.

Taliban militia isn’t a pol org with an idea of governance. It’s a demolition squad of Pak security state for turning Afg into an appendage. Afg refugee youth brainwashed in Pak madrasah (seminaries)are used as canon fodder. For the west it’s an instrument in its new Cold War.

I spoke to @BBCWorld on the rapid advance of the #Taliban across #Afghanistan in #Herat and #Kandahar , how talks in #Doha stalled as a result of delaying tactics by the government in #Kabul and the need for all sides to now engage meaningfully for an orderly transition.

We didn't oppose the Massoud sanctification and posters to see those posters now be replaced by those of Mullah Omar and Mawlawi Jalaluddin. Would the two men themselves approve of this? Jalaluddin only approved of his pictures being circulated for politica/propaganda purposes.

For months, they cheered on an offensive that took apparently 2 days to collapse. Now they claim collective punishment with the usual ethnic slurs. From a fake news crowd that spent 20 years justifying the documented, much larger collective punishment of B52/drones. No thanks.
