Job news!
I’m officially a reporter with
@Metro_Ents
- so excited to get stuck in!
PRs, do pop me on your list for news, screeners, interview opps etc and as always, keen to hear from underrepresented communities!

One of the most depressing aspects of my job is reporting on the endless tirade of incredible queer women centred shows being cancelled -
#ALeagueOfTheirOwn
deserves a full second season and so much more!!!
@WillWGraham
Are you a young/student journalist? I am currently making a Twitter gc for us all to connect (doing freelance and writing articles alone can be tough) and support one another! If this is you, like this tweet or dm me to be added (also share around to reach more people!)
Okay we have entered “why are Harry and Meghan holding hands after the probably incredibly emotional ceremony for his dead grandmother” level of discourse so it’s time to stop scrolling 👍🏽
Controversial-
You can’t tell young journalists to stop writing for free when the only other option seems to be pitching relentlessly which is incredibly time consuming (many are in full time education or work) and taxing on the mind to be continuously rejected. 1/5
The last day of Pride seems like a good day to announce that from 18 July I am officially joining the
@PinkNews
team as their Entertainment Reporter - so excited to get stuck in!!
🚨Journo news!! 🚨
I’m so absolutely honoured to have been chosen as one of the winners of the
@Hearst
Talent Scholarship! Really excited to start working with
@digitalspy
next year, best end of year present 🥰
Employers repeat after me: if you need a certain number of years of experience... then it is NOT an entry level job.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk :)
How throughly depressing that my feed has turned into warnings about rising domestic violence and (likely) increased racism following this result… puts a lot of things in perspective.
I am currently working five days a week as a journalist and yet whenever anyone asks what I do I say ‘I want to be a journalist’, rather than ‘I am a journalist’ - afraid I’ll jinx it or something 😭
So I GOT A PART TIME JOB! With my uni, to do with content creation and communications!!!! Maybe not the exact area I envision my future but definitely a start 😭
I would love to find a part time writing job this year (paid) but it feels like there is nothing out there for people who haven't graduated yet, anyone got any suggestions?
It’s been an immeasurably tough week.
To bring some hope to the timeline, I wrote about how healing it is to see positive relationships between PoC mothers and their queer daughters on screen for
@galdemzine
hope you're all taking care of yourselves 💞
Well
#KnockAtTheCabin
floored me - Ben Aldridge and Jonathan Groff’s chemistry is gorgeous to see on screen, not a second wasted with emotional punches, heart-racing suspense and Dave Bautista being just incredible!!
My university has emailed saying that we should not return to campus (unless essential) until 22nd February. I know people who were planning to head back today, with plans changing suddenly. The lack of communication to students from government is ridiculous

Hey! Your daily reminder that 94% of the media industry is white so people who spend their time and energy shouting at young WoC trying to make a space for ourselves and give each other a leg up... why don’t you target it at places with all the power 🙃

After my brief social media break the other week, I was hoping I would bounce back but sadly that hasn't happened. Had a few disheartening emails (or lack thereof), and generally been reassessing how capable I am as a writer. 1/11
My latest piece for
@galdemzine
is now live! This is perhaps one of the most personal pieces I have ever written but also something I wish I had read when I was younger so I didn’t feel as alone...
This is for everyone still trying to figure stuff out
It can come across as patronising from established writers to say ‘know you worth, don’t write for free’ when there are very few platforms for students to write paid and build their portfolio. Instead of lecturing and saying meaningless stuff about knowing our worth 2/5

@bustle
I pulled together a list of just some of the brilliant LGBTQ+ fiction coming out this year - if you’re looking to get into a new genre, or to add to your TBR, have a peruse!
(Also paid outlets only seem to be interested in what I have to say if I am exploiting my life experiences and hardships... major attitude change needed)
Incredibly excited to announce that I will be joining
@aureliamagazine
as a staff writer!
A brilliant team and magazine and so ready to share my work 💕
When people message me saying they enjoyed/appreciated an article I wrote/something I am doing it makes me so warm inside, actually motivates me to carry on in this industry even if it is soul crushing
Would any other LGBTQ+ journalists wanna do a zoom social sometime this month? Could be nice to do something to celebrate the month and have a sense of community?
We need to be discussing proper solutions, finding constructive ways to make the industry more accessible because the way it stands now, it is an unfortunate fact that for many, unpaid labour is unavoidable and this is not the fault of young people 3/5
Seen a lot of love for the Young Journalist Community in recent days, we are almost at 4K members and I’m planning on putting a survey up soon to see what people want from the group next! Thank you all so much for humouring this idea, what a wonderful space 💕
Looking to speak to LGBTQ+ South Asians about a piece of culture that has resonated with their identity (from music to poetry to tv and everything in between) for a feature for

Really late to the ~discourse~ but like... wish people defended minorities regularly targeted by a certain paper as much as they defended the right to support and write for it....
Y'all my dad just came into my room and said 'Asyia for years, wherever I am, these songs will suddenly start playing from my iphone and I can't get rid of them. Please I never want to hear them again'.
So I looked and... reader... it was the 2014 U2 free itunes album lolllllll
After a decade of end of year exams, a three year degree marred by strikes and COVID-19, I just handed in my final exam and am officially finished with university and academia 😭
I have watched this enough times that I need to share it with the people, completely in love with this edit - makes me want to rewatch the show all over again!

In my first feature for
@PinkNews
I spoke with LGBTQ+ South Asians about cultural moments that impacted them - it was quite emotional writing this piece and thank you to everyone who contributed!
#SouthAsianHeritageMonth
For
@digitalspy
I wrote about Ambika Mod's comments about not believing she would be the right fit for Emma in
#OneDayNetflix
and the joy of seeing South Asian women as romantic leads
Thanks for the commission!
@ljaneturner
Do I have any mutuals in London who would wanna potentially start a cute casual regular in person book club (to just vibe and have fun)? (Alternatively if one already exists, hmu!) comment or dm :)
And also all the information is so scattered across the internet and there are so many gatekeepers that even collecting all the info you need in order to have a good go at it takes a lot of time. Do you think we want to do this for free??? Stop lecturing us lol.
Seen loads of people putting their journalism goals which I’m not gonna do except for one goal which is to be actively commissioned for something (like being asked to write something rather than pitching)
That would be so cool
Wrote a little something for
@GlamourMagUK
about a couple of the things I loved about the Sharma sisters and the untapped potential of South Asian rep going forward
I’ll be on BBC Asian Network around 10:20 talking about whether there is a pressure to move out of your parent’s home in your early twenties (I write, living in my parent’s home in my early twenties)
Media outlets, I know life is real tough right now, but taking many weeks/months to get back to grad applications (with no sense of timeline) is super stressful for students who are trying to find some security!!
I wrote a piece last year anonymously in light of the primary school protests about being a queer muslim but my parents aren't on this app so here it is:
Trying to give one another a platform. Instead hold big outlets to account when they take on unpaid labour, brief commissioning editors on building relationships and seeking out young journos, actually give us platforms! 4/5
Helloooo PRs just a reminder that I’m always looking for brilliant talent pitches, screeners, event invites etc across culture and entertainment - especially keen for June/July pitches

Do people have any advice for someone who does not exercise at all on how to start incorporating it into their life? Any specific tips? (The thought of just joining a gym or starting to run kinda terrifies me)
My debut piece for
@themeridianmag
is finally up! I did a lot of research so if you want a starter guide to transgender rights in India and Pakistan have a read!
Headlining
@TheTab
, I spoke to LGBTQ+ University students who have to move home during the pandemic and hide their identity.
It was heartbreaking to write about this generation of young people trying to find themselves at uni.

Important! Please interact with this tweet (or DM!) if, when you were younger (or even now), you read or wrote fanfiction in order to explore queer narratives.
Have you ever relied on fanfic to feel represented where mainstream media fell short?
e.g. LGBTQ+ Harry Potter ships
Pre-corona times I would motivate myself in the darkness with social plans and Christmas vibes and now I turn my light on at 3 and continue to stare and the same desk and screen and try not cry lol
So thrilled to share my debut piece with
@autostraddle
- where I got to interview the formidable
@thefawz
about her new short, Noor & Layla, what it means to be queer Muslim and a hopeful future. You can watch the short film in the article!
Just read a tweet (amongst this whole debate about taking down a photo of the queen lol) that said she was a PIONEER of anti racism and I just.... the people of this country are exhausting, how can you say that about the British Monarch with a straight face??????
So apparently the universe decided I was mature enough to be 21??? Gonna spend the day eating cake and watching Downton Abbey (the greatest form of birthday self care)
I wrote about what it feels like to forget how to write.... as a writer. This is kind of dramatic, personal and ambling. Recently I feel like none of my words feel right and maybe some people will relate?
Apparently it’s been six years since I made an account on this bird app and… I started this account to promote my blog because I knew I wanted to be a journalist who was gonna do classics and I’ve just graduated with a degree in classics and I’m verified as a journalist 😭
I’m just a girl trying to find somewhere affordable to rent - how is London going to survive when it pushes out all the young people with extortionate rent prices???
I actually can’t wrap my head around the fact that I’m now 22 but hey at least I now have 365 days of truly appreciating Taylor Swift xxx
Spent my birthday weekend with nature which was the perfect way to herald it in!
Boris Johnson and Priti Patel gave a green light to the racism our England stars are facing. They stoked this abuse.
Now they're feigning outrage. None of us are fooled.
If you are a young journalist who has felt these things or believe this message, let's support one another (something I have tried doing these past few months), reach out, comment, retweet and let's be the change we want to see.
