As I make my way to my boyfriend’s inquest, I need to remind myself of how much I have achieved this year and how proud Harrison would be of me for making it to this point. Love you H 💜
Planning how and when I’ll check for understanding (for the most powerful knowledge) during my lessons has been incredibly impactful on student knowledge. It helps me keep a note of misconceptions and ensures I address them in that moment and in later lessons.
You know you’re a historian when you stop and fawn over every bit of history (this wall is from 74 C.E.!!!) you see… this may feel more like a school trip than a holiday to my partner 🤣🤣
Last day of teacher training and need to give myself a pat on the back for making it through this year filled with loss. Not to come across as too narcissistic, but I am proud of myself 💜
I visited London this weekend to celebrate my late boyfriend’s birthday with his friends and family. Grief is not a linear journey and I had to remind myself of that a few times day. Please never suffer in silence - 116 123 💜💜
My pupils AMAZE me. One pupil decoded the word ‘rejuvenate’ in Geography today as they didn’t know the meaning. Knew ‘re’ meant ‘again’ from Community Reads and also knew ‘juvenis’ meant ‘young’ from their Latin Elective 🤩🤩
THIS is why it’s vital we teach women’s history. Not just on IWD but frequently through embedding it throughout our curriculum. Women’s history IS history, not just an assembly.
Research estimates that women are represented in only 0.5% of recorded history.
For
#InternationalWomensDay2023
we wanted to highlight some of the 'forgotten' women in history.
“Was anything more powerful than the monarch in the medieval period” - thoughts fellow historians? Potential enquiry question for a SoW which examines Becket, Magna Carta, Parliament and the Peasants’ Revolt

Planning lessons on the legacy of slavery involves cracking into some fantastic scholarship, only problem is staying focused and not getting into a reading hole….
I find it hard to talk about things like this on my Edutwitter, but this past week has illuminated the need to. Suicide is nearly 2x the national average in the primary teaching profession. We need to look after ourselves, support each other and campaign for change 💜
Absolutely incredible lecture from

Didn’t picture my last day of half term being sat in urgent care after falling onto my elbow as I left my nail appointment - at least my nails look good 💅🏽
After a really difficult last few weeks in my personal life, I am reminded of how grateful I am for all of my colleagues. I could not think of a better, more supportive group of people to work with 💜💜
Manifesting The Body Shop stays open. My mum has worked there 25 years and they help so many worldwide through their Community Fair Trade programme 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Could not be prouder of this scheme of work. Cannot wait to utilise one of my specialisms from undergrad and teach some pre-colonial West African histories 🤩🤩
Hard morning battling through grief at work, but a pupil brought me this in off their bookshelf as they thought I’d like it 🥹 it’s the little things like this that make me love my job
After being inspired by James Hopkins’ article in Teaching History, our Y8 Industrial Revolution scheme opens with a narrative written by me. Excited to teach about my favourite ‘repellent hole’ next care cycle 🤩😆
Explicit teaching of vocabulary is vital in all subjects. Today in RS we decoded ‘deicide’ using our knowledge of prefixes and suffixes, drawing upon our study of Greek mythology from term one English! 🤩
Monday’s Community CARE Assembly is focused on Holocaust Memorial Day. This year’s theme is ‘Fragility of Freedom’ and provides an opportunity as a school to learn about the stages of genocide and reflect on the voices of those impacted by genocide.
