One of my biggest disappointments with campus hiring has been how many allow adding up of perks, internet reimbursements, even laptop costs to inflate CTC.
This eventually forces even startups to do the same 💩 (in campus), as for most colleges, it changes the slot you get.
@amodm
IMO anything you get after the first year should not be part of the CTC.
CTC is supposed to be annual cost, what is the logic of adding long term stocks that you get after 2-3years to this number.
@AmanHasNoName_2
I do believe ESOPs/RSUs should be talked about, but separately, as their evaluation isn't possible in as direct a way as cash.
Unfortunately, a lot of campuses don't permit this, and the cost is lost preferred slots. So, just do the next best thing - be transparent to students.
@amodm
Why do companies have such obsession about hiring from a small set of colleges and trying to be the first one there?
Massive amount of talent exists outside of the walls of few fancy campuses which largely goes unnoticed because of HM’s fetish for ‘top colleges’
@amodm
A CTC (mba campus) of 28 lpa at an MNC is actually fixed+variable of 16 lpa. Greatest enhancing factor to increasing the CTC is the health insurance of 7 lpa 🙌
@amodm
Training and placement cells are equally tired of this bs. Why not sit down with core TPC teams of all IITs and figure out a workable formula? Once IITs lead, others will follow suit.
I'll be happy to connect with whoever's in charge at IIT BHU right now.
@thawani_avijit
I've tried doing that a few times in the distant past. Usual reason cited: "sir, there's no guarantee that the same startup will still be there in campus next yr, but the large companies are a guarantee".
@amodm
Campus hiring is one of the most inefficient modes of hiring in India. The only "guarantee" that it used to offer in the past is imposing quotas on number of offers a single person had. I don't know how robust that guarantee is in the present day, let alone relevant.
@anomalizer
For most good startups, it's not the only mode of hiring, but for most graduating students, it plays a significant role. So talking about it is still relevant.
@amodm
Campus hiring has scams running at so many levels that navigating them is itself a resume point.
1. As you said, companies inflate CTCs.
2. Companies lie about next steps to keep you waiting from other interviews.
@amodm
I recently got to know about a component called 'entertainment' in the CTC of a corporate.
If you host customers/vendors you get the amount you paid as a component of your monthly salary.
We startups give it as reimbursements + monthly salary.
