@matt_weiser Not a solution I would endorse but water is flowing onto their property. I assume they evaluated other options. Desperate times I guess. Sometimes you have to react quickly and doubtful anyone was coming to help.

I have never seen this type of #flood control measure before! Here is how some farmers deal with a breach in the Tulare Lake bottom. I assume they will pile some additional dirt on. #cawater #cawx #farm #agriculture

@agleader Is this for real? Arenโ€™t there pollution concerns from the fuel/oil in the vehicles?

@matt_weiser Knowing what I know now, this was the best option they had at the time. I made this comment prior to speaking with the farmer. Now that I know the full story I fully endorse what he did for his property and community. Easy to opine from a distance.

@agleader @matt_weiser Almonds generate $6k per acre. Doesn't take to many acres to cover the cost of two used trucks. And that isn't even considering the long term investment that is lost if they lose the trees completely.

@agleader @matt_weiser In Vermont they call it Detroit Rip Rap. Did a lot in the mid 20th century dumping old cars on wroeinfntigry banks. Itโ€™s an awful idea and causes pollution. I canโ€™t comment on this specific case and what sort of emergency was occurring but yes itโ€™s a pretty awful idea overall.

@agleader @matt_weiser If the levees are on private lands arenโ€™t the property owners responsible for maintaining them & responding to emergencies like this?

@agleader @matt_weiser Beavers: We'll throw some trees in here and have this thing sealed up in a couple of hours, no harm to the environment and will cost almost nothing. Americans: Fill up these Chevy's with some dirt, and drive them into the levy. It won't seal the levy, but it gets the subs.

@agleader @matt_weiser Why is not filing an insurance claim a sign of an upstanding citizen. Isn't that what insurance is for?

@agleader @matt_weiser Exactly this. One has to understand that these guys went through a decision making process and landed on this solution. Incredible call from the guys - they weighed the costs under a time crunch and executed on their solution. Respect ๐Ÿ™

@agleader @matt_weiser Yes, so polluting that water as it flows elsewhere is a great idea. Penny wise, pound foolish to the extreme.

@agleader @matt_weiser You can sink a $20K truck or you can lose $4M worth of crops, buildings, machinery, PER FARMER. Easy decision.
