I feel like yachty is going through a phase that a lot of us have gone through when we were younger. He’s listened to the music nerd essentials and now thinks he has this super pretentious take on modern day music and especially hip hop
.
@lilyachty
cites Pink Floyd’s 'Dark Side of the Moon' as an inspiration.
"I heard that album, and it altered my perspective on music...There’s endless ways to form a sonic wave. That album came out when there was no Auto-Tune..."

@thoughtfulbae
There is always a sense of sadness I feel when watching an artist fall off. It’s like damn you were trash but at the same time if I was in ur shoes I’d be depressed.
@AllRapTakes
Idk man I literally went through this shit at like 13 lol. I listened to 1 Pink Floyd album and started running my mouth about modern music being bad and “lacking in originality”. I don’t find it to be a very mature take
@FDsignifier
I hate how hypocritical and gimmicky all of run the jewels music feels. Like the music is GREAT, but the shit killer Mike says in interviews goes against everything they say in their music
@mosthiphop
Donda still has a good amount of songs that I love tbh. I don’t think it’s fair to throw the album that has come to life, Jesus lord, moon, off the grid, Hurricane, 24 etc in the same category as Donda 2
Yall gotta start getting comfortable putting Armand hammer in those “greatest duos of all time” conversations because this is literally fucking incredible wow
@ShawnIsShady
@ARod12Defender1
Just because it has more sales doesn’t mean it has more relevance in the culture. I’ve seen way more praise and conversation around MBDTF than recovery. Recovery just had really big singles but no one cares about the album experience the same way people care about LR or MBDTF
@goatnextdoor1
Apparently not because I’m still seeing some people like “this a reach guys I doubt he’s talking directly to Kendrick.”. I’m not taking shit seriously until I hear one of them call each other out directly
@dailytrvisxx
I know it’s a short snippet off of a radio show but like why does it sound like one of those shitty meme beats that you see lebron dancing to
@perc30v2
@raptalksk
You can argue Chance. He’s given back to his community multiple times, helped shed light on other chi town artist like noname, saba, Lucki, Vic Mensa etc, and acid rap is classic
Maps was like the perfect follow up to hiding places, being that it wasn’t a follow up to hiding places. While Hiding Places was like being trapped in an elevator watching all the walls slowly close in on you, Maps is the feeling of trying to process your life and inside-
Billy Woods has the two highest reviewed hip hop albums of 2023...
Which do you rate higher?
90 - Maps w/ Kenny Segal
87 - We Buy Diabetic Test Strips w/ Armand Hammer
No rapper in Metacritic history has ended the year with the top 2 reviewed hip hop albums
Wild stat
@mxvn_bn
@therealugs
Doesn’t change the fact that none of cartis albums are even close to being on the level of The college dropout, late registration, Graduation, or The life of Pablo.
@gloxxexi
@Emohjify
I think it’s just one of those things rap fans (including myself) are desensitized to because we hear about it so much. Every track talks about shooting someone so it just becomes normal to us
@Philly_Laz
What’s interesting tho is the tweet I just posted predates the tweet where she’s telling Drake she woulda ended his career. Probably don’t mean much tho.
That Jay electronica feature is gonna be a stain forever on NoName career. It fly’s against everything you’d think she would stand for. No matter what she says people Will probably always bring up that horrid verse
@douche_dud
Sometimes it does fascinate how differently two people can hear music. You think this is one of the worst songs ever, me on the other hand thinks its one of the best songs ever
@spowell100
Sometimes I feel like NFR Podcast are the personification of bot Twitter accounts. Like they’re the only ones actually using “non rap” unironically 😭
@RodgersIsAGod
@raptalksk
This is a very unfair comparison. Her loss hasn’t even released so there’s literally no music for the cover to remind us of. If the music is legendary then the cover will also age to be iconic and legendary like IYRTITL or Take Care.
@RapTalkv2
Story goes that Questlove gave J Dilla a Rick James record that he deemed “impossible to sample” due to it not having a drum break and being “too polished”. Dilla somehow created this masterpiece from the “impossible to sample” record
@mfdoomstan1
I still don’t think it’s a bad thing to prefer STH tho. People make it too much of an obligation to place older more classic albums over newer ones because it feels “objectively correct”.
@ShawnIsShady
@ARod12Defender1
I’m not talking worldwide because I can’t speak on that. I’m talking more of in the confines of the hip hop community. And when it comes to the hip hop community I never see anyone talk about this album. People still talk about Kanye’s tho.
@ThisIsHipHop2
I think people have this false belief that “underground” means “unknown” or “super obscure”. Like an album can be fairly well known but still be an underground classic. Madvillainys impact on the current underground scene is MASSIVE. Same thing can be said with Donuts
I’m blown away every time I relisten to Brass. This is some of the most forward thinking, best production both Moor Mother and billy woods have ever rapped on. This album sounds like the end of the world with Moor Mother and billy woods being at the very center of it.
@Philly_Laz
Girl need to make a statement or something 😭‼️ because like it’s almost too perfect tbh but it could just be us trying too hard to make something out of nothing
@mfdoomstan1
Because if lil baby said that in relation to Durk and YB the whole thing would turn into beef instead of it just being a cool competitive line
@mosthiphop
I love Tyler but I do think he can be annoyingly pretentious sometimes. At least in this era of his career. He’s in his 30s now so I doubt he really cares to publicly shit on other peoples music anymore
@dronecoachng
@thetommyk_
I don’t know why telling kids that LGBTQ people exist is such a terrible thing. Don’t try and push it down their throat of course but do tell them that LGBTQ people exist and are valid as humans. This prevents them from developing homophobic mindsets
@whenthhepawn
@quebecween
How is there nothing underground about them? These albums are literally the blueprint to a lot of the underground rap music that comes out today. Also neither were high profile artist at the time of the albums release. Maybe J Dilla was buy MF DOOM definitely wasn’t
@CAM_R_EN
@AllRapTakes
I used to think Joyner shit was “real rap” and I’d play his gucci gang remix all the time thinking he was the only good rapper we had left. Then I grew up
@hibbitin
@dumbass_emo
@theneedledrop
There’s a difference between basic, ignorant “I think Jews are controlling the media” antisemitism and full blown “I like Hitler and think he had lots of redeeming qualities” antisemitism.
@sampleWH0RE
@FDsignifier
EL-P just seems like the guy who for the most part stays to himself and just makes dope music so I got a lot of respect for him. Amazing producer too
@ShawnIsShady
People close to kdot are doubling down on the daughter angle. The interview clip came like 2 days after Drake claimed he fed the information which is interesting. Not a confirmation by any means I just find it interesting they are doubling down on it and not letting it die out-
@ShawnIsShady
@ARod12Defender1
But I don’t think people really remember the album more than they do the singles off the album. Like i think the success of recovery worldwide is mainly driven off the big singles having super far out reach.
@oralcn
@nfr_podcast
I gotta slightly disagree. I agree with the Uzi take but not Rocky. Rocky influence is way higher than cartis imo all things considered.
