So I woke up to an email from the president of the university that starts with "Upon the recommendation of the Provost, along with my endorsement, I am pleased to inform you that the University of Memphis Board of Trustees has approved your tenure and promotion
I remember when this lynching first happened, they were not going to charge anybody with anything. So, I am thankful for the activists who marched and stood with the Arbery family who brought attention to this lynching.
I am still looking for those massacres involving Black people killing white folks, burning their property, and utterly destroying their communities. I want to make sure I am balanced in my teaching.
So, I guess we will find out if 48 pubs, 10 grants, 20 awards, over 200 presentations, 8 research appts/fellowships, and 14 Ph.D. students (w/4 graduating), while at the same time bearing witness against unjust systems will be enough. We will see.

It is hard for those who only know white evangelical theology to talk about race or understand racism. There is nothing in their theological understand that prepares them to deal with race. Many of them still believe in the inferiority of non-white people.
