Today, we're announcing Capsule 𝇊
Capsule is a toolkit for transaction signing, made possible by two key innovations: Programmable MPC and Secure Enclave-Managed Authorization
Today was my last day at
@cLabs
- crazy to think that 3.5 years ago we were just a group of individuals and a mission and how far we've come from there. Building & launching the Celo Protocol & Valora and seeding the Celo Ecosystem has been a rewarding experience in so many ways
April starting off strong 📈
- 150,000+ new users (welcome to web3!)
- A majority of users complete repeated onchain actions after creating an embedded wallet w/
@usecapsule
It's an amazing time to be building the future of onchain interaction ⛓ (PS: we're hiring!)

is a pioneer in an emerging era of products where crypto isn’t a category or a feature. Rather, being onchain uniquely makes everything possible
Couldn’t be more excited to be supporting
@anna_kazlauskas
and the
@withvana
team on their vision
This thanksgiving, feeling especially convinced that a startup is just a collection of people manifesting a shared dream.
Couldn't be more grateful for the people I've been fortunate to meet on this journey and the generosity, big and small, of our community 🫶🙏
hot take: for a space that talks so much about sovereignty, crypto has more groupthink/herd mentality than any other industry I've seen.
*ducks* - optimistic for improvement here
Super excited for this launch! Much, much more to come in this area soon 𝇊
Fun fact: accounts for an email are shared across login types, meaning you'll be able to access your account regardless of the method you first selected to sign in.
Another reason to love Universal
Have been looking forward to this launch for a long time!
MetaMask has already onboarded 100M users to our space, and excited to bring Capsule MPC and easy account management to the mainstream!

In this month’s WiB Spotlight by
@saniyamore
, Nitya shares how she got into crypto, why she built Capsule & how she keeps herself motivated.
Looking into crypto<>fiat connectivity, a space I'd last dug in to ~4y ago
Incredibly optimistic about what's coming in this area, hats off to everyone who's been grinding through the last few years
2023 for crypto was all about making web3 as good as web2.
In doing so we compromised on what set the space apart and set out to to rebuild a worse web2.
The tools to get the best of both are here.
Here's to making 2024 the year of web3 alongside web2. No compromises needed.
This.
Crypto’s current active users take actions that span multiple applications.
Getting users into wallets that are both easy to use AND move across crypto with them is necessary to unlock the user journeys that have been necessary to actually retain ecosystem participants.
The problem with embedded wallets is that you fragment onchain reputation and social graphs
I'd much rather have one wallet that I can use everywhere to have personalized experiences rather than 10 wallets for 10 different crypto consumer apps
The biggest thank you to
@followrene
and
@marek_
for allowing me to join this journey of a lifetime. As for what's next, I'm taking some time off to recharge and travel - stay tuned for updates after that!
1/ Great thread from
@doganeth_en
on some differences between MPC and AA wallets
TL;DR:
- MPC wallets are different from EOA wallets
-
@usecapsule
's design introduces the notion of programmable MPC
- The future will indeed involve both MPC and AA tech!
11/ Because AA wallets are Contract accounts, they are simple to program and can provide enhanced functionality to users.
MPC wallets are still EOA wallets, so they are nearly impossible to program (Except for the EIP 5003, EIP 3074 based solutions).
Something people don't talk about much- the investor<>founder dynamic seems different when investments are made in a bear market
Much more of an "us against the world" vibe than the tropes I've heard/observed in some cases
Or maybe
@usecapsule
just has the best investors 🤷♀️
👀 Crypto implications of this are significant, especially if allowed regions expand. In many markets Android sideloading is even more prevalent than using the Play Store.
Opens the path for challenger app stores, etc.
Apple will allow iPhone users in the EU to sideload apps starting in the first half of 2024 to comply with new regulations!
Sideloading will allow users to downloads apps from the internet and third-party app stores
Should Apple allow users to sideload apps outside of the EU?
So excited about the new chapter for
@CeloOrg
— greater composability across the EVM world will make developer experience and ultimately impact more scalable 🟢🟡
Enjoyed speaking at Intents Say @ SBC (s/o to
@anoma
@zmanian
for organizing)
Sharing some thoughts on intents expression at the user layer (as it relates to
@usecapsule
’s area of focus)
shamir secret sharing is not MPC, yet I constantly see companies try to market SSS as MPC
In some cases this is mostly fine (e.g. backing up keys shares in separate locations and only recombining them on the user's device) just misleading
But conflating the 2 could be
the reason wallets are the
#1
issue in crypto adoption is because they serve two completely opposed purposes:
1. custody of funds (best in cold storage w lots of pws)
2. transacting in apps (best in browser w one tap)
we need separate products—wallets and *passports*—for each
Today, we’re sharing an important step in
@usecapsule
's journey - the first universal embedded wallet!
I felt that, especially given this week's big ETF news, some reflection was warranted on where we’ve been and where we may go next.
Why is crypto special?
It’s hard for most
Vitalik's prominence needs no explanation
But this take is overly simplistic and based on assumptions of "social recovery" style sharding
In practice quorums can and do rely on user-controlled devices, etc. Implementation details are distinct from intrinsic properties of tech
@yugacohler
MPC-based EOAs are fundamentally flawed because they cannot revoke keys (and no, re-sharing doesn't count; the old holders can still recover the key). Smart contract wallets are the only option.
lesson for the world: don't sleep on
@_nityas
!!!
I'm so honored to be on this cap table -learning from the smartest people in the space. Nobody has cracked the crypto onboarding dilemma until now. I can't wait for
@usecapsule
to be out in the wild 🥹
Excited for this announcement, and more importantly so grateful to the amazing Capsule customers that we've co-developed this feature with.
Much more to come here and looking forward to see the expansive crypto use cases this powers!
Announcing pregenerated wallets 𝇊
Pregeneration makes it easy to generate an invisible, non-custodial embedded wallet with just an identifier like email or social account
Let’s get into it 👇
So many examples of vestigial concepts in wallet terminology
- “network switching” why not be connected everywhere?
- “confirm tx” why not confirm all?
+ some even bigger ones that will become apparent soon
Web2 product is all about creating flywheels within an application. Web3 flywheels can and should span multiple interaction surfaces
Web2 & Web3 infra will need to be foundationally different to support this difference
US fintech x crypto discourse is funny:
1) constant talk about how "other countries" need better financial rails
2) has worse financial rails than most peer countries, as well as many places lumped in the "other countries" discourse
Imagine needing to go to BofA every time you’re at the final step of Amazon checkout, clicking through mysterious routing numbers & queueing a wire transfer, then heading back to your other tab and completing the checkout
This is crypto today (h/t
@samrags_
)
excited to be sharing some updates about the new
@CeloOrg
SDK at the
@oscafrica
open source festival tomorrow, love the
#OSF
theme of shifting the focus from Next Billion Users in Africa to "Next Billion Creators"
I recently observed that ppl are often zero sum or positive sum mindset, and apply this across everything they do.
It's been hard to put a finger on why I'm so happy these days building a startup; I think being surrounded by a community that's wholly positive sum is a big part.
between Never Have I Ever season 3, Indian Matchmaking season 2, and Wedding Season it’s been a big couple weeks for a specific kind of netflix viewer (and the desi group chats ofc)
@ValoraApp
came out of beta today! Valora lets you send a payment anywhere in the world just like an SMS, in just a few seconds for under $.01 🚀💸

The real death spiral: we cash in on exchanges -> feel locked in/scared to move off -> stay and do the only thing we can: speculate in the crypto casino.
self-custody UX is the key to actually unlocking usability.
Moreover, I'm thrilled to be building Capsule with the best team I've ever been a part of-
@adeets_22
,
@nsquareiii
, and
@mosdnk
.
We're hiring engineers- check out if you're interested in joining us.
the energy of startups is so addicting; the best feeling in the world to just sprint towards a huge opportunity alongside people who make you better ☺️
Deploying a smart contract for the first time in a while for a fun project…as much as we like to complain, tooling really has gotten much better in the last few years💥
Lots of great new changes in here both overall & in the details -- thanks to all our customers who gave us feedback and input that led to this launch!
Get in touch if you'd like to try it out!
Announcing our new modal! 🎨

team for shining a light on this problem
Always happy to chat w/ folks who are experiencing or looking to solve this problem 💪💪💪
🚀Excited to share two new EIPs in the
@erc4337
ecosystem 🚀
- ERC-7555: Single Sign-On for Account Discovery
- ERC-7556: Embedded Accounts as Smart Modules
We're very convinced this is going to bring a 10x UX and DevEx experience at the same time 🔥
Dive in and learn how 🧠
Incredible thread from
@kobigurk
Thinking expansively about transactions as a networking layer- not an action- enables new possibilities re: intents and non-interactive transacting
intents are a hot topic recently - and for a good reason
conceptually, they allow you, as a user, to define your desired outcomes, "what you want". then, solvers can discover how to achieve these outcomes for the user, "how to get it"
1/11
Love seeing nuanced takes on wallets, like
@kylemccollom
’s post here
We’ve long believed in (and built) wallets that are invisible & offer the best of embedded + portable experience
If you’d like this in your mainnet app today drop a note,
@usecapsule
is live & here to help 🫡
Web wallets (what Wilson calls a smart wallet here) don't exist yet outside of testnet.
They have no downloadable app, don't require social login, and are powered by passkeys.
They are a new thing that will change everything.
feeling reminded of this today. it's wild to reflect on how the world has shifted in the last 9 months and particularly how delicate our societal trust and fabric feels.
Multi-Party Computation (MPC) enables gasless multisig, programmable permissions, and r1 -> k1 verification for AA accounts. This Friday,
@_nityas
joins Web3 Galaxy Brain 🌌🧠 to talk about
@usecapsule
's new Passkey+MPC+AA SDK.
✨Personal News✨
Today is my first day
@usecapsule
! Stoked to get to lead design with an awesome team, working on important problem, with a great product.
Can't wait to push the boundaries of what product experiences are possible using cryptography!
As a
@usecapsule
team member recently observed: "We don't back down from solving the important, hard problems"
Today's launch is just one example- and I could not be more proud of our team.
We're hiring! If you’re excited about building the future of blockchain interaction,
Why onboard users into different apps in different wallets when you can let them onboard once and transact everywhere? 🔥
Introducing portable embedded wallets, live in production 𝇊

@usecapsule
founder
@_nityas
explains how Capsule is approaching the next generation of Consumer Crypto Wallets and Smart Accounts.
Programmable transactions will pave the way for newer, more sophisticated on-chain applications
They give us the ability to break down actions into units that can be
- Composed
- Repurposed
- Autonomous
Here’s how we’re thinking about this
@usecapsule
We've been researching how to hyperscale consumer crypto apps at
@eigenlayer
.
Starting w/ wallets, identity, & AA - the core of improving user onboarding + UX.
@usecapsule
streamlines user onboarding w/ features like social login + passkeys built-in. ⚡️
Re:
@Ledger
news - every product has a contract w/ its users and especially in crypto, everything is opt-in.
But violating that contract is serious.
Wallets are highly trusted products and self custody is a spectrum. We need a range of options to sign transactions on-chain.
the unabashed flex/exclusivity culture in crypto rn reminds me a bit of web2/startup culture ~8 years ago(and from what I'd heard before that); swag, parties, fomo, an obsession w/ popularity
the optimism & joy is so amazing...the lack of self awareness not so much
unpopular opinion: SF public transit is currently the best way (wrt expected cost, time, and reliability) to get around the city and is shockingly underutilized
We are pleased to be backing
@_nityas
and her team at
@usecapsule
, enabling applications to integrate wallets with custom policy logic, via the magic of MPC 🪄
There are many things about Elon I don't agree or align with.
With that said, getting to watch him execute a massive velocity +culture shift in public is a gift for any builder.
My favorite thing about sunday evenings is prepping for the week ahead and establishing a sense of calm. lately I've been striving to achieve that feeling every weeknight!
In some ways "homework" was a valuable practice for this re:clearing the daily mental backlog
Also been thinking about this!
Mapping intents to transaction groups requires some nomenclature for curation/grouping of contract calls.
Probably one of the actual applications of AI+Crypto.
The trickiest part of intents is going to deriving constraints from existing existing smart contract calls.
Swaps are the easiest intents but users/devs should be able to create an intent from any smart contract interaction via simulation and query planning.
Unfortunately, statements like this further entrench narrative-fueled herd mentality vs educating people to understand trust assumptions they are making when choosing what tech to use
Appreciate difficulty of being in a position of influence, but with power comes responsibility
Trust wallet vuln is a reminder that key generation is not a part time commitment and can impact even the most mature products. With the space growing, wallet discourse often skips over this.
Excited for stronger primitives that will enable new app builders to specialize/focus
Thanks
@chaserchapman
for having me on On the Other Side to chat
@usecapsule
and wallet interaction models!
Highlighting a couple of topics I was excited we covered 🧵
The cycles of explicit > fuzzy > fixed interaction modalities have interesting parallels among emergent technologies
In AI this was SDKs > chat > prompt-wrapped APIs to expand reach
Crypto has been stuck in explicit interaction for so long, shifts forward will be interesting
