But what do we call it? 🤔
Find out this Thursday as we reveal the name of the 1.20 Update. Tune in to the premiere episode of Minecraft Monthly on our YouTube page!

So many players answer "redstone" when asked the hypothetical question "what is one thing you'd remove from Minecraft?"
I find that a bit upsetting, as redstone is just so crucial to the spirit of Minecraft to me
The fact that a couple can 'go on a Minecraft date' is good enough evidence to me that Minecraft had the so-called "metaverse" nailed down long before Zuckerberg decided to proclaim that he will very soon invent VRChat
I wonder if part of the whole "Minecraft rain always happens at inopportune moments" is because there's no in-between weather. It's either suddenly lots of rain, or no rain.
No light shower, gentle rain, threat of rain
Had a brief discussion about uncanny first-person animations, which reminded me of this time back in 1.16 when I was trying to "fix" MC-91869 (mob heads held awkwardly) and I ended up wasting two Fridays prototyping an oddly uncanny two-handed hold animation specific to skulls 💀
I watched the latest MrBeast video and (as someone who is from a country with free healthcare) it was incredibly disturbing & difficult for me to watch
This was not a happy/positive feeling video at all: It is a sickening, horrifying parody of the failings of American healthcare
On Oct 16, Minecraft Live is coming to a zombie-inducing screen near you!
Read more about the livest live show, and prepare yourself for the never ever controversial mob vote, block-breaking announcements, and – of course – absentminded chickens:

Ugh, Minecraft developers. (A rant).
Asked a colleague to send me a world download of a 1.17 map and they sent half of it in a file named "felix_world.part1.rar" and told me the other half is delayed and I'll get it later this year
Whenever I see community polls that ask "Should Mojang add more ___?" I always vote "no" because that means less work for us
Just doing my part as a lazy Mojang dev
The copper golem gets my vote if I can strap TNT onto it, throw on one of those golden clocks that no-one ever crafts as a timer, and then send it marching into your base with a note demanding diamonds within the next 2 minutes
Retweet if you're excited for Minecraft 1.19 the Wild Update woooo!! 🙌🎈
Can't wait to get stuck in (that mud) 🐢
I'm already duping my TNT, ready to blast the nearest ancient city into a crater 🌬️🎲
Everyone HYPE! 😎😎🤓💃
Me on Twitter: "Ugh I can't believe MOJANG nerfed this exploit I've been using"
Me in the office: "Hey team, yeah the community says nerfing that exploit was not a good idea, the balance of the game is all wrong, I think it's best if we play it safe & revert the code thanks all"
This January I'm joining Mojang and the Minecraft team as a Java Game Developer!
I remember the first day I played Minecraft in Alpha and now - all these years later - I have the chance to contribute back to a landmark title that changed the world.
Will Tweet more!
#Minecraft
Minecraft, to me, is the ultimate game where self expression is the primary mechanic
Self identity is the most important thing to us in modern society, and Minecraft has helped millions of people find their community and themselves
Really is the best video game in human history
Probably a controversial thing to say but: I think considering the Copper Golem's primary function as a redstone randomising thing is a mistake 🤷♂️
I would never have thought of using it for that until someone else described it as that
To me it's a dude that pathfinds to buttons
People used to make fun of me for playing Minecraft 😔
I thought: "I'll show them! I'll become a Minecraft dev and make something great!" 🥊
Now the same people make fun of me for working on Minecraft 🥹
Been digging through my folder of old Caves & Cliffs Friday prototyping stuff ⛏️👷
I'm not 100% happy with dripstone rendering being similar to how we do flowers, so back in October 2020 I had made like 18 different concepts of how "stone that drips" could look in Minecraft
Thank you to the entire Minecraft community for all the positive energy and excitement about the Wild update! I know you've all been eagerly waiting to play it, so go play! 🥳
I don't think I've ever seen the Minecraft community be this excited and keen about an update before 🤼
Just so everyone knows about the down-sides to being a Minecraft dev:
Cleaning out hot-chocolate from the inside corners of this mug is really, really difficult
3 years ago this day was the first day I stepped into the Mojang office 😱
It was basically a tour day with Dinnerbone and the Java team for me. I still wasn't sure if I got the job or not 🤔
What if we added petrol lawn-mowers to Minecraft, but we didn't add petrol? 👨🔬
So you place it in the world, and it just sits there and starts to rust.
Tall grass grows around it in a kind of symbolic representation of the strong dependency modern society has on fossil fuels 🫂
What the heck we changed up the Steve and Alex skins? I hate change, who did this?
@JasperBoerstra
???
I am so mad. I know I don't use the default Steve or Alex skin, and I never see them outside of screenshots, but they were iconic how could we do this 🧗
This is cool. Disabling all textures besides the lightmap. Makes me really appreciate the light mechanics in Minecraft; light is so tightly woven into the fabric of the game and we as players take it for granted
Your typical Minecraft idea from the community goes like this:
"Let's add flying magic carpets"
"But you can already fly with elytra"
"Okay but magic carpets don't take damage"
"Then why would we use elytra?"
"Because magic carpets are more expensive and rare"
My Twitter is really fucking weird:
60% of it is Europeans crying out in anguish & heartbreak as Ukraine is invaded by Russia.
The other 40% of it is Americans talking about how many sparkles they got in their bloody caramel frappuccino on toast today.
Got some 1.17 practise runs in whilst eating my lunch today
Finally smashed that 1 minute barrier, despite some slowdown after half my jam-sandwich fell onto my keyboard, resulting in some input delay due to my hesitation of touching the jammy, sticky keys
People making Minecraft "bikini" skins: Please stop drawing the bikini bottoms on the legs. No-one wears bikinis around their legs. Your Minecraft characters look like they've got them pulled down around their knees and it's very weird.
Thank you.
If anyone wants to know why Minecraft cakes don't stack, it's because if you were to put a cake on top of another cake, you still only have one cake 👨🍳
What if we added hyper realistic horse breeding 🤔
Realistic animations, births, the ability to refrigerate and sell the 'genes' of a good horse to wandering traders 🐴
Horse breeding really should be improved in Minecraft. Right now, chances are so super minimal, that good traits are actually passed on that it makes not much sense to try. I am sure, a lot of people would enjoy trying to breed fast and jumpy horses.
When I first played Minecraft I couldn't figure out how to get my furnace working. I had the coal in there, the iron in there, but it wouldn't work.
Another player told me it requires a torch underneath, so I put a torch underneath and it started working.
I'm surprised
@xisumavoid
didn´t mention Bedrock at all in this video, that's probably one of the larger factors that goes into time & development of the vanilla game, versus creating a mod
Everything added needs to be added twice, and often with two different solutions
Minecraft streamers & YouTubers: tired of having to adjust your video gamma in post whenever you're in the Nether or a dark cave?
Want it all to be automatically handled without ruining the look of the overworld?
Here's a Fabulous resource pack for you:
In 1.16 I put a really, really, REALLY subtle & obscure easter-egg/reference into the basalt deltas biome that is hiding there in very plain sight
If someone ever noticed it; the pay-off would be so underwhelming that they'd be angry they ever looked for it
Here's a quick example of using armour trim palettes to define different shapes for different trim colours
The important detail: These are both the same trim pattern! See that they are both "Sentry", yet the Amethyst palette shows "A", but the Copper palette shows "B"
I'm trying to write a joke comparing my Minecraft Java code with my Tweets but I can't think of one
Please imagine this was a funny joke Tweet, one that you'd like/retweet under normal circumstances
Thanks
Fun fact: when I Tweet my Minecraft ideas
@kingbdogz
messages me telling me that he's super jealous that he didn't think of them and that I am very handsome and intelligent and everyone wishes they're as cool as Felix and stuff like that.
He'll reply confirming it's totally true
A lot of the discussion is still based around the confusion in the Minecraft community about what shaders are
Shaders are not shadows, reflections, bloom, bumpmaps, ray-tracing, etc
These effects can be done without shaders: Jurassic Park Trespasser had shadow & bump maps in 1997
How a single frame of Minecraft Java is rendered 👨🎨
Been using NSight recently to debug and fix some really obscure and weird rendering related issues. Look at all those warnings! ⚠️⚠️
And then I was like "oh but what about off-hand" and I wasted another Friday making it into some freaking bizarre as heck player-head puppet show situation
1.16 was wild...All this screwing about after first joining Mojang is what got me comfortable in the code-base 🤷♂️
What if we added tea making to Minecraft? ☕
And when you get sugar out the cupboard above a boiled kettle your arm receives half a heart of damage from the steam - I think that would balance it 🤔
