Official Twitter acct - The College of Wooster Men's Golf Team, coached by PGA Professional Rich Danch. NCAA D3, North Coast Athletic Conference. FIGHTING SCOTS
A huge shoutout to
@TheMayfieldSR
and
@mcreech65
for hosting us today. Senior
@EvanFerrara
made the ultra-rare ALBATROSS with a 2 on Sand Ridge’s par 5 fourteenth hole!!!! He holed a 5-iron from 195....we were in disbelief 🤯! Congrats Evan!
Coach Danch:
“My Dad, Bob Danch, passed away tonight. He was 88 & had just celebrated 61 yrs of marriage with Mom. He was born to immigrant parents from Hungary & came quite a long way in his lifetime. I was always proud to be his son & to the end hopeful that I made him proud.”
Our guys managed, on a brutal scoring day, to jump 2 spots in the right direction in the standings. In the most challenging year in modern collegiate athletic history, I couldn’t be more proud of the way our young men faced up to the obstacles.

We cut our trip short and got back to Wooster on Friday around dinnertime. Kudos to the six young men who handled themselves with aplomb during a very uncertain and quickly changing situation. Our 4 seniors are the kind of leaders anyone would feel blessed to have. Love you guys!
Coach Danch:
“As an ‘89 Wooster Baseball alum, just wanted to express my pride in the Scot Baseballers winning the NCAA regional in St Louis yesterday! Couldn’t be happier or more proud of my friend and colleague Coach Barry Craddock - you and the boys earned it!

Great week for our lone senior Ben Foltz! On Monday he accepted a job at KeyBank, today he submitted his Sr Independent Study, and tomorrow he joins us as we depart on a 12 day golf training trip thru FL, GA, and NC!
#FightingScotProud
Ben Foltz played his final round as a Fighting Scot today. His 4 years of effort, commitment, and representation of this program were most appreciated! To meet Ben is to enjoy Ben - his personality on the course was almost always one that partners enjoyed! Good at golf too! 👏🏼👏🏼
297 was good for 2nd place (2 back) on day 1 of our Gatorade Collegiate. We were lead by senior Evan Ferrara’s career best 67 (-5) which is the low individual score!
Can’t believe how proud I am of these young men today! Ranked 7th coming in, they just did the job and moved into 4th place today. Jimmy Hinton made HM All-NCAC as well. Proud to be a Fighting Scot today.
Great internal news here: senior Jack Donahue (Grove City, PA) has been accepted and following graduation from Wooster this spring will be attending medical school at Penn State University!
Coach (whose IS was turned in 30 years ago) helped Andrew DeLaat celebrate his IS turn-in! Congrats Andrew....now let’s turn in some great scores! 🏌🏽♀️⛳️
@WoosterGolf
with the victory in our own Gatorade Collegiate at Zoar Village GC! Held off Baldwin Wallace and Mount Union for a satisfying opening win!
#GoScots
Better day (win over Allegheny) for the Scots today, highlighted by the best score of freshman Jacob Ullom’s young career (75). A pivot in the right direction after a tough day yesterday for us.
#BounceBack
Coach Danch, along w rising sr Tyler Hilbert and rising jr Noah Jackman are having a really cool experience this week working at the Duke Univ Golf Camp! Fun NCAC tie-in, the Duke Men’s Coach (Jamie Green) is an Ohio Wesleyan alum who played in Nationals at Wooster CC in ‘92!
Well, it’s happened for the 3rd straight year! Standout Scots John Angelo (‘13) & Marcus Carano (‘16) have qualified for the USGA 4-ball Championship! They won on the playoff’s 7th hole, punching their ticket to Kiawah Island next spring! Proud doesn’t adequately capture it!
💛🖤
Winner, winner, Blizzard dinner!
Awesome day for Wooster Men’s Golf, overtaking two strong programs (Capital & John Carroll) to bring home the hardware. Gabe Guthrie was tri-medalist at -1 (143) with Tyler Hilbert just a stroke back at level par 144. 10 Scots at 151 or better! 👏🏼
And then there is our home (on-campus) practice facility, LC Boles Memorial Golf Course. While certainly more rustic than WCC, the convenience factor for hitting balls (informally dressed no less!) is amazing for our golf teams. I don’t know what we’d do without Boles honestly!
We’re looking forward to hosting our first multi team invitational in 2 years this weekend at Zoar GC. We welcome in Westminster, Capital, Baldwin Wallace, Marietta, Muskingum, Hiram, Penn State Altoona, and Kent State Tusc.
Should be a good event!
Team score of 300 today at Mt Union Invitational puts us in 2nd. Progress.....
Special mention for walk-on senior Danny Engel who shot 75 today....after being just the best player in my golf class 2 years ago! 👀
Our accommodations, on-site at Old Chatham’s Birch Cottage, are nothing short of luxurious. Back door opens to a private pitching area next to the range. 😳
We had quite the treat today! A few of our Scot golfers got to play with professional golfer (2 time Korn Ferry winner) Luke Guthrie. Luke was 2 time Big Ten Champ at Illinois and could not have been nicer and more gracious.
So it’s match day for us at Wooster Country Club....but MORE IMPORTANTLY it’s senior David Roney’s 22nd trip around the sun! Happy Birthday to an all around champion of a young man!
Proud coach here today. The grit and determination our young men showed these past 2 days (after being 4 shots from last place after Friday) was SO inspiring. Our seniors Jacob and Tyler set the tone, as they were a combined -1 for the entire weekend!
Just awarded senior pins to Andrew DeLaat (Medina, OH) and Ric Reynolds (Westerville, OH) at our Athletic Department’s annual “Scotties” award program. Great guys who I’ve enjoyed so very much the past 4 years...bright futures both 🤗
Lowry lunch for 4 seniors who are a credit to our program and schoool! Can’t wait to see these wonderful friends do great things beyond these walls…but I’m in no rush to see them go!
L-R Eddie Papp, Jack Donahue, Jacob Ullom, and John Varley.
The lads (and Coach) on Eyre Square, also known as JFK Square, following a speech he delivered to the people of Galway in that location just months before his death in ‘63.
We at

want to extend our best wishes for quick healing to

sophomore
@GriffinHayden7
(and his donor/brother Bailey) following recent kidney transplant surgery. Your NCAC Golf cohorts hope that your road to recovery is a smooth one!

A little post-round practice today at Redstick today in Vero Beach. Btw, a few holes behind us was Dr. Bob Rotella (“Golf is Not a Game if Perfect”) and former Tour winner Dicky Pride...

Had a wonderful “senior send-off” day with Ben Foltz today at Firestone CC! The North Course was great & fun as always and we reminisced about all the great times and hilarious moments that go into a college golf experience well-lived.
We will miss you Ben!
We fought hard, but struggled to take advantage of our opportunities on the greens today. It was great to finally play “away” (@ Granville) for the first time in a loooong while.
This week’s section member spotlight is on Rich Danch, Head Men’s Golf Coach at The College of Wooster!
Rich’s team finished 35-9 in 1989 to become the first Wooster Fighting Scot team to make it to the Division III World Series!

I (Coach Danch) had a great day with ‘13 alum (and volunteer assistant) John Angelo at the beautiful Signature of Solon. We both played really pretty well and had a great ongoing conversation about the game we both love so much!
I believe that’s a TURKEY!
3rd straight win for some guys that don’t show any give up! Our junior Krish Nayak (147, T1) was low man, and our freshmen were awesome today!!! Jake Cammarata (71 on B team) and Andrew Carey (72).
So proud of this group of Fighting Scots! The culture these guys have formed amongst themselves is at the heart of what they’re accomplishing. They can all play the game and are so very supportive of one another…gotta love it!
Great sunny afternoon for several of our guys, and Coach, to help senior Danny Engel (Evanston, IL) celebrate the submission of his Senior I.S. Congrats on being

Danny!
Our alums John Angelo & Marcus Carano are currently T25 (of 128) at the USGA 4-ball Championship. Top 32 make it on to matchplay.
I’m honestly overwhelmed with how proud I am of these two (who have been our volunteer Asst Coaches as well)! They’ve accorded themselves amazingly!
These guys did such a great job of melding athletics and academics once again this Spring semester.

👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾
3.61 semester GPA !
We were also blessed and gratified to see Gabe Guthrie (soph, Dublin Coffman) win medalist for the 2nd event in a row; as well as Jacob Ullom (sr, Indianapolis North Central) finishing runner-up. These guys, with 3.5+ gpa’s embody much of what we’re doing at Wooster! 🖤💛🖤
Really humbled by the good work of our guys leading up to this weekend, and proud of the results of that hard work. GREAT JOB MEN!!! Looking forward to a fun and exciting fall season in the coming weeks. This team is talented and has great chemistry!

Arrived in Ireland today and hit the Cregboy Golf Academy on our way from Dublin to Galway to shake off close to 8 hours of flying and 3 hours of bussing!
My goodness is Frederica (St Simons Island GA) an amazingly great all around golf experience. Our guys felt like true VIP’s today - thanks to alum Brett Holmgren (‘98). Best part? We do all again tomorrow 🍀❤️🍀
The trip’s final day was a journey down Ireland’s east coast to The European Club, along Brittas Bay. Best weather yet, and the course was a stunner as well, another of the best that IRE has to offer. Thank you
@SportsbyWS
for the sites that you provided these college golfers!

goes to our only All-NCAC golfer in ‘18-‘19, Jimmy Hinton (North Canton, OH)! Congrats to Jim, who now sets his sights on the Spring golf season and picking a law school.
Rising senior Tyler Hilbert won the Brookside Golf & CC caddie championship with a 69 this week! Good score at a US Open final stage site! In 3rd place was our rising sophomore Mark Towns at 73! Good work men!
These guys crushed it in the classroom! Not sure we could’ve asked for more from such a great group of young men. Thanks for your sustained efforts!
#RollScots
Coach’s favorite lesson today at the Cleveland Golf & Travel Show, named Teagan, had never hit a golf ball.
“We used her softball experience as a point of relation and she immediately hit GREAT shots! Made my day...”
Coach missed a hole in one by less than 2 feet on the 170 yd twelfth. Irony being that this hole was the site of his 5th and most recent ace, about 7 or 8 years ago.
What a great evening attending post-graduation dinner for my guy David Roney up in the Rox Gastropub loft! One of our best and brightest, sad to see him go, yet excited for all that he is sure to accomplish!
#ScotsForever
Wooster Men’s Golf is proud to be hosting the 15th annual Nye Intercollegiate at Wooster Country Club this weekend! We welcome 10 visiting D-III schools from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Kentucky. It is an exceptionally strong field and we’re excited to have them here.
Managed to pop-in on 6 of our 7 seniors (since they all live in Avery House together) and congratulate them on the completion of I.S. Just minutes before they headed off to the annual I.S. March!!!
@WoosterGolf
Soph Krish Nayak takes home the medalist hardware at the Gatorade Collegiate with a score of 140 (-4)! His final round 68 (birdied 17 & 18) was thrilling!!!
Today found our team playing at the very swanky Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City FL. With a yacht dock backing up to the clubhouse, there are many ways to get on-site….we chose to arrive via vans as per usual.
The day was long logistically but
@WoosterGolf
and
@woosterwgolf
would likely not change a thing about it (other than turn the fan down a notch or two). Indelible memories were made today!
A little wet to start but what a good day I had with my class of 2020 at venerable
@FirestoneCC
today. For everything you gave and everything you ate, I say thank you guys!
St. Patrick’s Day was a good one for the Fighting Scot Men - we had the good fortune to play the Ocean Course at Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. Home of the original island green in Ponte Vedra did not disappoint! (We said hello to Gus the Gator too!)
Great weekend! A win via team playoff is an underrated experience. This doesn’t define why we play, but it sure does provide great feedback and joy!
#team
Grades are in and these guys are most definitely STUDENT-ATHLETES!
3.59 team gpa for the Fall!
Perfect 4.0s for seniors Jack Donahue, Ty Hilbert, Eddie Papp, & John Varley.
Easy to enjoy the Holidays when your guys are rolling so successfully.
Wednesday took us to a “top 10” in Ireland - The Island GC (est 1895).
A wild and windswept dunes adventure hard along the Irish Sea. With winds 25-30mph, difficult to even know what “par” was. What a lifetime experience our group is having!!!
#FightingScots
Some more good wedge work today, this time on the stadium turf. Field turf must’ve been solar powered (🤥), but it sincerely didn’t feel very cold out there.
It was a great break in routine to be sure!
