Spent an hour researching gout - convinced I had it. Sore toe. Could barely think for pain. Then was reminded that 4 hours previously, I’d tripped over a pesky tough root on my way to dig a hole for a tree. Toe now lovely purple hue. Not gout. Ate cheese and a glass of port.

Little bit of posing at the Costa Book Awards last night .... The winning book was The Volunteer - it’s superb. The biography of a Polish resistance fighter who volunteered to be arrested and sent to Auschwitz to find out exactly what was going on there & inform the Allies.

I can highly recommend Singin’ In The Rain at Sadler’s Wells. I bought slightly restricted seats which were still really good. And at the end, we rose as one for a standing ovation. Some of us (me…) burst into tears because it was just so nice to be back at the theatre.
